[A/N: I would like to remind you that this is canon divergent. As I've stated previously, some events will happen, some may not].
Arthur is now accompanied by Sunny and the two unconscious individuals. They silently sat by a bright purple campfire.
The wounds have been bandaged, and medicine applied. On the injured man.
Arthur had returned to the city to grab essentials. Seeing as the injured man couldn't travel with him. Their wounds would tear without stopping. Perhaps they wouldn't even last a single teleport. And there would be several required.
So, Sunny and Arthur decided they would play the waiting game. At least for now. Until they got their answers.
But Arthur's mind was no longer on the injured people or the attackers. No it was directed on his communicator. Where Caera had messaged him about the upcoming war.
A few minutes later another message was sent. This time, by none other than Saint Cor, warning him not to get involved. Arthur couldn't help but clench his fists in frustration. Arthur knew, knew very well. That he couldn't participate. Don't try to stop it. Even if he was powerful. Who knew how many saints would appear? And even if only a few showed. The confirmed dozens upon dozens of masters would pose a threat. So the decision was made. Arthur, the Paragon Of Purity. Wouldn't involve himself unless absolutely necessary.
The clans could slaughter themselves if they wished. Arthur couldn't care anymore. The two great clans clearly didn't care for the mundane. And so Arthur didn't care about them. He could not risk his organization. Nor his allies. He had learned he couldn't save everybody the hard way. Once. Never again. The possible losses were too great.
Suddenly, Sunny stood up.
His hair covered his eyes slightly. His lips were unmoving. He, too, had learned the news.
And finally, he had made a choice. He couldn't just stand by and wait. No, he was a man of action after all.
But he wasn't stupid, nor naive. The outskirts beat that out of him at a young age.
Finally, his lips opened, softly. Clearly hesitant.
"I will join you"
Four simple words, but to Arthur? It meant a lot more than that. He finally had what he needed. A close ally. A friend. A man with dozens of important connections. In his group.
Before Arthur could say anything. He was stopped by Sunny.
"But not as myself."
Sunny breathed in and out slowly.
"But as Mongrel."
Arthur waited a moment, and seeing as Sunny didn't speak. He did.
His response wasn't that of happiness. Glee or anything like that. No. It was worry.
"Are you sure?" Arthur asked silently. He knew what freedom meant to Sunny. And this was chaining himself down. Not that he could get chained more than he already was. Anger flared in Arthur's mind at the thought. But Sunny's next words calmed him down.
"I am."
A statement. A statement filled with determination and conviction.
"You are the one I trust most. And I do not wish for the people to struggle because of the war."
Arthur nodded and stood up. Extending a hand towards the dark-haired man.
Sunny clasped it, shook it twice, and let it go.
There was no contract to sign. Not for Sunny. That would be an insult to their trust in one another.
Arthur gave a small smile to Sunny.
"Well then, welcome to the Lances!"
Sunny scoffed, shaking his head. But there was a small smile on his lips.
He had a place now. A home away from home.
"I'm assuming you don't want an office?" Arthur teased.
Sunny scoffed at the mere thought of sitting in an office, signing papers. That was not him. He was many things. A fighter, a survivor, a coward, but he was not a documents guy. Caera could handle that herself.
Arthur let out a chuckle at the reaction. Eyes squinted with amusement.
Then suddenly, there was a cough.
Sunny and Arthur spun around. Two cloaks whirled around as one, one white, one black.
They were greeted by the woman's gaze. Her eyes squinted; clearly, her vision was still blurry.
"Water?" She rasped out. Her words sounded more like a statement than a question.
Arthur and Sunny shared a look. Then Sunny crouched by the woman. A flask appeared in his hand from golden sparks.
He pressed it in the woman's hand. Surprisingly, she didn't suspect it could be poisonous. She just pressed it to her lips. Gulping down the water at a frightening speed.
Then suddenly she put the flask on the ground, turning around. The next moment she was puking.
Neither of the men tried to help her. After all, she might still be delirious.
The woman turned back, meeting eyes with Sunny.
Her eyes flashed with confusion, then recognition.
Then she turned to Arthur and froze. Almost literally. She didn't move. Didint blink. Didint breathe. Sunny silently wondered if her heart had frozen as well.
Then she blinked, returning to normal.
She raised an eyebrow. Clearly curious.
"Oh my? Aren't you the so-called Paragon?"
She teased as much as she rasped.
Arthur merely raised a hand and waved. Apparently, the gesture was funny for her. Laughter started to rock her frame. Soon enough she doubled over, clenching her stomach. Then the coughs started.
Sunny merely handed her the memory again. This time, advising her not to puke.
She let out a chuckle at that, but accepted the drink nonetheless.
After a few minutes of slow drinking, she cleared her thoughts and stretched. He finally looked back at the two men who had apparently saved her. Only for her eyes to land on the unconscious form of the injured man.
Her eyes widened, pupils shrinking. She quickly dashed over to the body. Checking his breathing and pulse. After realizing he was stable, she turned back to the two men. Her eyebrow raised once again. Sunny merely shrugged his shoulders, pointing at Arthur.
Arthur shrugged his shoulders as well, stating a simple. "Found him, brought him here."
