Chapter 112 - Easier But Tense

She lifted her eyes to meet his.

"So… I think we should end the contract."

"What?" Chibuzor asked sharply.

The word came out louder than he intended, raw with shock, so unlike his usual calm that even he was caught off guard.

The car went quiet.

His grip on the steering wheel tightened, knuckles whitening as the reality of her words settled in. He didn't say anything else, but the tension in the air was unmistakable.

This conversation, this moment, had rattled him far more than he was willing to admit.

Why do I feel like I dug a pit for myself?

Chibuzor wondered, speechless.

"But—but…" he finally made an attempt to speak, but ended up stammering. Gripping the steering wheel a little tighter, he asked, "What about your company? Don't you still need the money?"

It was the strongest defense he could think of.

"I do still need the money," Olaedo nodded calmly. "But I've always put my company above everything else. Above myself. Not anymore."
