His focus was sharp, precise, his tablet had become his new best friend whenever she was in the room.
Without looking up, he asked,
"Where do you want us to go for our date night?"
He finally raised his eyes.
And just like that, business resumed.
"You mean our monthly date night?" Olaedo asked.
Chibuzor lifted an eyebrow. "Is there another one?"
"No." She shook her head lightly. "It's just… this conversation should be downstairs. Contract related talks are meant to happen in open spaces, in front of witnesses."
She quoted Clause Seven without hesitation.
"Does it even matter anymore?" Chibuzor asked.
His face did not change, but something underneath it cracked.
"You will be leaving soon. The contract will end anyway," he continued. "I will be the one left to deal with the consequences, so what's the point of being so careful now?"
The words sounded rhetorical. They were not.
For weeks, he had been waiting for one answer.
