Chapter 34 - Chapter 35: The Scarred Lord Rallies His Troops

We continue. As Harry leaped through the trapdoor, Ron and Hermione were stunned. Fearing he would face the danger alone, they quickly jumped in after him.

They fell for three or five seconds, their hearts in their throats. Then, with a thud, they were caught by something soft.

Ron's heart was pounding. "That scared me to death. Thank goodness these plants were here."

"Goodness?" Hermione shouted. "This is Devil's Snare!"

This Devil's Snare was a man-eating vine. If you were entangled, it didn't matter if you were made of bronze or iron; it would crush you and devour you.

The vines came from all directions, binding the three so they couldn't struggle. While Hermione frantically tried to recall what Professor Sprout had taught her about the plant's weakness, Harry had already lost his patience and drew his saber.

"Big Sister, do not worry! This one will meet it!"

This saber, quenched in dragon's blood, was the pinnacle of yang and fire. One slice, and the Devil's Snare was cut in two, the ends smoking.

Harry hacked several more times. The vines, feeling the pain, knew a great tiger had arrived and quickly retreated.

With a thud, Harry fell from the vines.

Hermione saw the white smoke rising and cried out, "Fire! I remember, Devil's Snare is afraid of fire!"

She and Ron, wands in hand, both cast fire spells and, like Harry, fell to the ground.

The vines were only a meter off the ground. Ron landed and finally caught his breath. "Whew. I almost thought we were going to be killed by a bunch of plants."

Harry, his mind focused on killing Voldemort, said nothing. He sheathed his saber and beckoned the others down a stone corridor.

At the end, they found a brightly lit room. Countless keys with wings were flying about, and in the corner lay several flying broomsticks.

"Is this a test?" Ron wondered. "Do we have to ride the brooms to catch the key?"

"It's not that complicated," Hermione said, pulling out her wand and aiming at the lock. "Alohomora."

Usually, this unlocking charm worked every time. But now, after she said it, the lock didn't budge.

"Oh. It seems we really do have to catch the key."

The two were about to grab the brooms, but Harry, unconvinced, said, "Big Sister, Brother, wait!"

He drew his saber and slashed at the lock. With a loud CLANG, the blade was repelled.

Ron and Hermione were shocked.

Harry's saber could cut steel! What kind of magic was on that lock?

Ron said, "Harry, we really should just go catch the key."

"That damned scoundrel! Today, this one will break this blasted door!"

With that, Harry swung his saber at the wooden door itself.

The lock had a thousand spells protecting it, but the door had not a single one.

The saber was like a swift axe chopping fat, like a sharp blade slicing cheese. With three or five swishes, a large hole was torn in the door. Harry didn't hesitate. He lifted his foot and kicked hard at the broken section. The planks shattered, sending wood chips flying, revealing a man-sized opening.

"Big Sister, Brother, follow this one." With that, Harry climbed through the hole.

Hermione and Ron just stood there, still holding the brooms, stunned. Only when Harry called for them again did they snap out of it and hurry after him.

The three arrived in the next room. All around them stood stone chess pieces, some two or three men high. They looked down and saw the floor was a black and white grid. The room had been turned into a giant chessboard.

Harry took a few steps forward, and eight white pawns turned to block him.

"I'm good at chess!" Ron exclaimed in delight. "I'm not bragging—even third-years can't beat me."

"Brother, your method is good, but it is too slow. Better to follow mine!"

Harry drew his saber and wand and shouted, "Brother, listen to my command! You take the right flank! Just make noise and disrupt their formation!"

Ron, though confused, saw Harry's serious expression and quickly replied, "Got it!"

"Big Sister, you take the left flank! Lure those bishops and knights away!"

"Ah? Okay!"

"Big Sister, Brother, remember: survival is the top priority!" Harry's green eyes stared fiercely at the white king. "Leave that scarecrow with the crown to me!"

In his past life, this scarred lad had been an infantry commander on Mount Liang. His fists could subdue a tiger, and his mind could hold strategies for ten thousand troops. Though he only had two lieutenants today, he dared to charge these chess pieces.

With a single shout, all three began to run.

Ron set off a few firework spells, making the pawns turn their heads. Hermione cast an explosion charm, and the bishops and knights charged straight for her.

The chessboard was in chaos. The center was wide open. Harry, saber and wand in hand, charged forward, vowing to strike at the heart of the enemy and behead the white king.

The other chess pieces, realizing Harry was going for the king, abandoned Hermione and Ron and rushed back to protect him. But Harry was like a hawk diving on a rabbit. He leaped three feet and landed before the throne.

The white king raised its stone staff to strike, but Harry shouted a charm and cast Expelliarmus. The spell hit, and the king's staff flew from its hand.

This was the moment. Harry tensed the muscles in his arm, spun his body, and threw his saber. It spun through the air and decapitated the white king.

The head hit the ground, shattering into fragments. The crown rolled off with a clang. The other chess pieces, seeing their king beheaded, froze as if struck by lightning. The light in their eyes died, and all fell silent.

Ron and Hermione were panting, soaked in sweat, and trembling, but they were both grinning.

"That was exciting! I felt like my heart was about to jump out of my throat!"

"Me too!" Hermione caught her breath and looked at Harry. "Harry, you know tactics?"

Harry clasped his hands. "Big Sister, you praise me too much. This one just randomly flipped through half a scroll of The Art of War."

A poem serves as proof:

Three heroes break the ranks, each with their strength,

Flanks distract while the center strikes the king.

His comrades cheer the clever plan,

Half a book of strategy conquers the chess-land.

The three crossed the board and went forward. They pushed open the next door, and a foul stench hit them.

Hermione wrinkled her nose. "This smell is so familiar... wait, it's a troll!"

They looked down and saw a giant troll lying flat on the ground, a massive lump on its head.

"This must have been You-Know-Who!" Ron said urgently. "Let's go!"

"Wait!" Harry called. He drew his saber again and thrust it into the troll's heart.

Ron and Hermione were dumbstruck. "Harry? It was already unconscious!"

"If this scoundrel woke up, we would have had to fight it."

Ron thought for a moment. "You're right. You think of everything, Harry."

They moved on to the next room. They opened the door and saw no monsters, only a table with several bottles of potion on it.

Hermione went forward and picked up a piece of parchment. On it was a riddle.

She was, of course, a clever person. "It seems we have to pick the correct potion from these," she said proudly. "Leave this to me."

She read the parchment carefully for a moment. Suddenly, her face turned pale, and she cried out.
