Everly groggily opened her eyes, greeted by an unfamiliar ceiling that looked like it had seen better days. The strong smell of antiseptic filled her nostrils, along with other strange odors that she assumed were medicines. It was like being in a science lab, but without the cool gadgets.
She wrinkled her nose and turned her head to survey the room, only to realize that she was, indeed, in a hospital.
For a moment, she was completely bewildered, trying to figure out why she was there. But then, like a floodgate opening, the memories of last night came rushing back.
The fire. The smoke. The unconscious woman. And those strange blue screens that had appeared when she touched Aria's face.
Everly's mind raced.
What did those screens mean?
Was it a glitch in the system if she touched someone who was unconscious or was dying?
Or was it something more sinister?
