Cassian whipped his head around to scrutinize Jeremy's face. After a solid three seconds of intense staring, he finally managed to utter a word.
"Fine."
With that, Cassian resumed his descent down the stairs. This time, however, Jeremy came to a sudden halt, allowing Declan to take the lead and walk directly behind Cassian. Previously, Jeremy had cut in front of Declan, forcing him to walk behind with Everly.
Now that Jeremy was at the back with Everly, she immediately leaned in and whispered in his ear.
"What on earth did you say to him? His expression is all sorts of weird."
Jeremy simply flashed Everly a mysterious grin, remaining tight-lipped. This left Everly with a cloud of big question marks floating above her head.
When they finally reached the fifth floor, they emerged from the emergency exit and found themselves back in the corridor. The area was now much quieter, with only a few nurses and security guards milling about.
