Enzo's Pov
When I attempt to walk back into the house to demand answers, Eden's hand shoots out and holds me back, her grip surprisingly firm. "It's okay, just leave it. Let's just go," she pleads, her voice thick with unshed tears.
"What did they do to you in there?" I ask again, my own anger simmering just beneath the surface.
"It's nothing, really," she sniffles, obviously lying through her teeth to protect me or maybe herself from reliving it. "Please, can we just go home?"
The way she says home, meaning my place, my usually quiet and empty penthouse, does something strange to my chest. I help her up from the ground and lead her carefully towards the passenger seat of the car. She is still crying softly when we get inside, her whole body shaking with these broken, quiet sobs. She turns towards the window, pulling her baseball cap off and running a hand through her messy hair.
