A TABLE FOR TWO

Aaron's POV
The rest of the day went by in slow motion.
Every time I caught a glimpse of him — talking to Ethan in the hallway, laughing quietly with someone near the elevators — it tugged at something inside me.
Before leaving, he stopped by my desk again.
"Thanks for the company," he said softly. "And the coffee chat."
"Thanks for the coffee itself," I replied.
He smiled, then hesitated. "Maybe next time, we skip the office. Meet somewhere quieter?"
My heart stuttered. "Are you— asking me out?"
He gave a small shrug, like he did not want to make it a big deal. "Call it… continuing the conversation."
I tried to keep my voice even. "Okay. I'd like that."
He nodded once, that small, warm smile tugging at his lips again. "I will call you."
When he walked away, I had to sit down to breathe.
Because for the first time in a long time…
I was not just hoping.
I was waiting.
