The club was loud.

Not the good kind of loud.

Not the kind you could lose yourself in.

This was the kind that scraped against your nerves—bass too heavy, lights too sharp, people laughing like nothing in the world could possibly go wrong.

Meanwhile—

I had just casually set a war for tomorrow.

I took a slow sip of my drink, letting the cold settle on my tongue, and glanced around the table.

"…Why does everyone look like I just announced the end of the world?" I asked.

No one answered.

Samuel looked like he was doing mental calculations on survival rates. Adam had that tired, done-with-life expression like he'd already accepted his fate. Michael looked… tense. Too tense. Like something personal had just been dragged out without warning.

And Keifer—

Keifer looked still.

Too still.

Like the kind of quiet before something breaks.

I sighed dramatically.

"Disappointing," I muttered. "I expected panic. Maybe someone fainting. At least one dramatic scream."

Cin immediately straightened in his seat.

"I can scream," he offered, serious. "Do you want fear scream or emotional breakdown scream? I've been practicing both."

Percy raised his hand like we were in class.

"I can cry," he said. "Full tears. No glycerin needed."

I pointed at both of them.

"That's why you're my favorites."

"I knew it," Percy said, placing a hand over his chest like he'd just been knighted. "I always knew I was special."

"You're not even in the top five," Angelo said flatly.

Percy froze.

"…I've been betrayed."

Cin leaned toward him, lowering his voice like they were planning a revolution.

"We rise together."

"We fall together," Percy whispered back.

I nodded approvingly. "Beautiful. Inspiring. Truly."

David looked at all of us like he regretted every life choice that led him here

The doors opened.

And just like that—

I smiled.

Ava walked in.

No hesitation. No effort. No need to demand attention—

it followed her anyway.

The lights caught in her hair, the crowd shifting just slightly as she moved through it like she didn't even notice them. Or maybe she did—

and just didn't care.

I leaned back in my chair, watching her approach like I had all the time in the world.

"Look who decided to bless us with her presence," I said.

Ava stopped in front of me, unimpressed as always.

"Miss me?"

"Terribly," I said. "Life lost all meaning. I almost started making responsible decisions."

She rolled her eyes.

But she didn't leave.

Which was interesting.

Then—

someone said it.

"Isn't that Jay's girlfriend?"

Silence.

A beat.

i leaned back in my chair, watching her approach like I had all the time in the world.

"Look who decided to bless us with her presence," I said.

Ava stopped in front of me, unimpressed as always.

"Miss me?"

"Terribly," I said. "Life lost all meaning. I almost started making responsible decisions."

His fingers tightened slightly against the edge of the table.

Ava paused… then slowly walked closer.

Closer than necessary.

"…So," she said, voice slow, measured, "that's what I am now?"

I tilted my head, studying her like this was a negotiation.

"Hmm," I hummed. "Benefits include emotional instability, poor decision-making, and occasional chaos. Still interested?"

Cin gasped like I'd just proposed marriage.

"Wow," he whispered. "That's already toxic. I love it."

Percy nodded seriously. "This relationship has depth."

Ava looked at me, unimpressed.

"You're insane."

"And yet," I said softly, eyes not leaving hers, "you walked closer."

That pause—

that tiny, almost invisible shift—

I saw it.

"So?" Ava crossed her arms. "Am I your girlfriend or not?"

I leaned forward slightly.

Lowered my voice just enough.

"You look good in the role."

Silence.

Then—

Cin slammed both hands on the table.

"OH MY GOD IT'S HAPPENING—"

Percy shot up halfway.

"I KNEW IT. I KNEW THERE WAS SOMETHING—"

"Sit."

Angelo didn't raise his voice.

He didn't need to.

They sat.

Immediately.

"…I hate authority," Percy whispered.

"Same," Cin said. "But I respect it."

Ava stepped closer.

Too close.

"At least choose someone better looking next time."

My eyes flickered with amusement.

"You think you're out of my league?"

She leaned in slightly.

"I know I am."

For a second—

just a second—

something sharp flickered through me.

Then I smiled.

"Good," I said quietly. "I like challenges."

Percy, who had gone quiet for a whole two seconds, spoke again—far too seriously.

"I always knew my sister had secrets…"

Pause.

Everyone turned.

He didn't flinch.

"Just didn't expect this."

Ava closed her eyes briefly.

"Percy, shut up."

"I'm just saying," he continued calmly, "I'm not explaining this to our parents."

"I will throw something at you."

Cin leaned closer to Percy.

"We should prepare a statement."

"Agreed," Percy nodded. "Public relations matter."

Aries dragged a hand down his face.

"I'm done. I'm actually done."

"Same," Angelo muttered. "I don't know them."

"We know them," Cin said sadly. "That's the tragedy."

Ava's voice dropped slightly.

"So… girlfriend?"

I didn't move.

"You look good in the role."

She smiled.

"Maybe I'll keep it."

Michael moved.

Fast.

His hand caught Ava's arm.

Not harsh.

But firm.

"babee i amm yourr bf nott jayy heyy keifer handle your girrlll broo orr we both have to start date each other"

His voice was steady.

Too steady.

Like he was holding something back.

At the same time—

Keifer's hand wrapped around my waistt

"Stop."

Perfect sync.

Perfect tension.

I looked down at his hand.

Then up at him.

"…Wow," I said slowly. "Possessive behavior. I'm impressed."

Cin leaned toward Percy.

"He's in love."

"Deeply," Percy confirmed.

"I will remove both of you from existence," Keifer said calmly.

Cin straightened immediately. "I apologize."

Percy nodded. "We respect your feelings."

I pulled my hand free, completely unbothered.

"Relax," I said. "It was harmless."

"You don't do harmless," Angelo said sharply.

I looked at him.

"Correction," I said. "I rarely do harmless."

Aries let out a quiet laugh.

"She's not wrong."

"Stop encouraging her," Angelo snapped.

"I'm not," Aries said. "I'm surviving."

The mood didn't recover after that.

It shifted.

Settled into something heavier.

More real.

Michael exhaled slowly, running a hand through his hair. "We need to talk about tomorrow."

Jay leaned back, her expression returning to something calmer. Controlled.

"We already are."

Samuel frowned. "You're way too sure they're going to show up."

Jay's eyes flicked toward him.

"They are."

Something about the way she said it made everyone pause.

"Because they're planning the same thing."

That got their attention.

A beat of silence passed before she continued, her gaze moving across Aces and Sec E.

"There's something you don't know."

No one interrupted.

"The rival leader," she said slowly, "was one of us."

Confusion rippled instantly.

"He was supposed to take over this league."

Adam straightened. "What?"

Jay didn't look away.

"Until I beat him."

The weight of that settled quickly.

Michael frowned, something clicking into place. "Who are you talking about?"

Jay turned her head.

Looked at Ava.

Ava's expression changed before anyone else understood why.

"…No," she said under her breath.

Jay didn't soften.

"Yes."

Michael's voice dropped. "You're kidding."

"I don't joke about people I hate."

keifers arm was still around my waist, not tight, not controlling—just there, steady, grounding, like he wasn't planning to move anytime soon.and i dont want it to

"Who are you talking about?" he asked finally.

Not loud.

Not demanding.

Just… direct.

I tilted my head slightly, looking at him for a second longer than necessary.

Then I looked away.

"You'll recognize him when you see him," I said lightly.

"That's not an answer."

I sighed softly.

"No," I agreed. "It's not."

A pause.

Then I leaned back just a little, like I was settling into something I didn't usually revisit.

"His name won't help you," I continued. "It's what he did that matters."

He had been part of the league long before most of them even knew it existed.

Not loudly. Not in a way that drew attention. He was careful—always had been. The kind of person who understood that real control didn't come from being seen, but from being felt. People listened to him without realizing why. They trusted him without questioning it.

And for a while, that worked.

Because no one knew who he really was.

Not even Ava.

Back then, the league wasn't divided. There were no rivals, no lines drawn. Just a group of people who stayed, who fought, who built something without even knowing what it would become. He was already there when things started taking shape—already positioning himself like the center of it all.

And then he met Ava.

It wasn't dramatic. No big moment. Just something simple that turned into something real. He liked her—genuinely, at least in the beginning. And Ava… Ava doesn't fall easily. She doesn't trust easily either.

But she trusted him.

That was the problem.

Because while she knew him—

she didn't know this part of him.

He never told her about the league.

Not once.

Not when he was spending nights here. Not when things started getting serious. Not even when it became obvious that this wasn't just some random group—it was turning into something bigger, something that meant something.

He kept that part of his life separate.

Hidden.

Controlled.

And maybe that would've stayed that way—

if I hadn't stepped in.

When I challenged him, everything shifted. Not just in the league, but in him. Losing wasn't something he knew how to process. He didn't break. He didn't get angry in the obvious ways.

He adapted.

And somewhere in that shift, Ava stopped being the focus.

Power became the focus.

Control.

Winning.

That's when things started getting… messy.

He didn't leave her.

Not immediately.

He stayed.

Stayed with her like nothing had changed—like he wasn't slowly becoming someone else entirely. Like he wasn't already thinking ten steps ahead, calculating outcomes, deciding what mattered and what didn't.

And at some point—

Ava stopped being something that mattered.

Not enough, anyway.

Because around that same time, he started paying attention to me.

Not the way people usually do.

Not curiosity.

Not interest.

Assessment.

I noticed it early.

The way he'd show up when I was around. The way conversations shifted when I entered the room. The way he watched—not casually, not carelessly—but like he was trying to figure something out.

It didn't take long to understand why.

I had something he didn't anymore.

Authority.

And he wanted it back.

Fighting for it hadn't worked.

So he tried something else.

He tried getting close.

At first, it was subtle. Conversations that didn't need to happen. Standing a little too close. Saying just enough to blur the line between normal and intentional.

And then it wasn't subtle anymore.

He flirted.

Not carelessly.

Not stupidly.

Calculated.

Like everything else he did.

And the worst part?

He was still with Ava.

He didn't even try to hide the shift—not from me, at least. It was like he'd already decided that she wasn't part of the equation anymore. Like she was something temporary… and I was something worth risking for.

Not because he liked me.

That was never it.

But because if he could get close enough—if he could make me trust him, let him in, give him even a fraction of control—

he thought he could take everything back without a fight.

That was his mistake.

Because I saw it for what it was.

Not interest.

Not attraction.

Strategy.

And I don't entertain people who see everything like a game.

So I didn't play along.

I didn't encourage it.

But I didn't shut it down immediately either.

I watched.

I let him think he had time.

And he kept going.

Pushing, testing, trying to find an opening that didn't exist.

Until eventually—

there was nothing left for him here.

Not power.

Not control.

Not even the illusion of it.

So he left.

Not because he wanted to.

But because he had to.

And Ava?

He didn't lose her because of me. because that bastard was never meant to be hers
