The mother—still mounted on him—lowered her whip and glared at her son. "What the hell are you doing here, Oakryn?"

He swallowed hard.
"When they brought him back, they spotted a vampire boy crawling out toward the main door. Then this man of yours—"
He pointed at Aldric, who stood frozen behind him.
