Chapter 191: The Great Priest Seeks an Audience
Bibi Dong froze for a moment, then a slight smile appeared at the corner of her mouth.
She stretched lazily, stood up, and walked down from the high platform to stand beside Ning Bei.
"Did the old guys from the Hall of Elders come looking for you?"
Ning Bei raised an eyebrow slightly. It seemed this woman had been keeping an eye on the movements of the Hall of Elders, which is how she knew he had visited the Hall.
She couldn't have been watching him all the time, right?
"That's right, I was consulting them about some matters related to the Divine Trial."
Since Qian Renxue was still opposed to revealing their relationship to Bibi Dong, Ning Bei casually made up an excuse to brush it off.
"The Divine Trial?"
Bibi Dong's brows furrowed slightly, and her expression seemed to show some displeasure.
"Why didn't you ask me about the Divine Trial? Do you look down on me?"
Ning Bei gave a neutral nod. Bibi Dong's mocking expression slowly collapsed, and she gritted her teeth and said:
"What... do you mean?"
Ning Bei helplessly shrugged.
"Am I supposed to ask you how to get tricked by the gods? Or how to complete the Divine Trial without getting a single reward?"
Bibi Dong's previously regal posture completely crumbled. What was wrong with this guy? How long had it been since they last met? And he started right off by stabbing at her heart?
"You're really something!"
Seeing Bibi Dong's gloomy face, Ning Bei realized he had said something too hurtful. He looked at her with amusement.
"Hey, Your Majesty the Pope, is it that hard to take a joke? I haven't seen you in a while, and it's a bit awkward between us, don't you think?"
"Hmph!"
Bibi Dong snorted coldly, slowly walked over to the window, and gazed out. A hint of melancholy appeared on her face.
"It's normal that you don't look up to me. After all, I don't have any abilities to make you think highly of me."
"..."
After a long silence, Bibi Dong didn't hear Ning Bei respond. She turned around, wondering where he had gone, only to find that Ning Bei had already seated himself on the Pope's throne, casually fiddling with it.
"What are you doing?"
"Huh? Your Majesty the Pope, this chair isn't anything special!"
Looking at Ning Bei's relaxed posture, Bibi Dong helplessly rubbed her forehead.
"Can you have some dignity?"
Ning Bei, reclining lazily, lifted his gaze slightly.
"Don't be so stingy. I'm just a guest here, and there's only one chair in this broken Pope's hall. Where else am I supposed to sit?"
"Or, you can sit too. Here, I'll leave half of it for you!"
Saying that, Ning Bei shifted over slightly and patted the empty space next to him, not even bothering to hide his nonchalance. The throne was quite large, and there was plenty of room for two people.
Bibi Dong was almost made speechless by this shameless person. He truly didn't treat himself as an outsider.
"By the way, Your Majesty the Pope, why did you call me here?"
Bibi Dong glared at him and, expressionless, took something from her soul guide device and threw it towards Ning Bei's handsome face.
Ning Bei caught it with one hand. It was a soul bone, and its quality wasn't low.
After a moment of realization, Ning Bei snapped to attention. Was she still owing him a soul bone? Without hesitation, he absorbed the 100,000-year-old Soft Bone Rabbit soul bone into his soul guide.
He flashed a bright smile at Bibi Dong.
"Thanks a lot, Your Majesty the Pope. I'll treat you to a meal next time!"
"That's enough, if there's nothing else, you can go now."
Bibi Dong handed him the soul bone and immediately issued the dismissal order.
Ning Bei didn't get up, instead teasingly looking at her.
"I'm an old friend coming to visit you, and you don't even offer me a cup of tea before kicking me out? Isn't that a bit too much, Your Majesty the Pope?"
"Get lost, and take a crawling exit!"
Bibi Dong pointed towards the door of the hall, slightly trembling, though it was hard to tell whether it was from excitement or anger.
Ning Bei rolled his eyes. If she didn't want him to drink tea, fine. Just as he was about to get up, an enchanting figure slowly entered the hall.
The woman had golden short hair, and with every glance or smile, she exuded an air of seduction.
"Teacher, there's a middle-aged man outside holding a token who requests an audience!"
"Huh?"
Ning Bei clicked his tongue. Was it time for an old lover reunion? Maybe he should slip away before this woman got upset.
"Uh, Your Majesty the Pope, I'll be on my way then. I won't disturb your little date."
Huo Lianna, upon hearing the voice coming from the Pope's chair, immediately froze. She looked incredulously at Ning Bei sitting on the throne.
"You... you…"
She couldn't fathom how anyone could be so bold as to sit in her teacher's exclusive seat.
After trying to figure it out in her head, Huo Lianna turned to Bibi Dong, her face full of suspicion, silently asking how they should dismantle this guy piece by piece.
Bibi Dong shot Ning Bei an unhappy glance. She felt like his words earlier were mocking her.
She gestured for her disciple to leave.
"Na Na, go bring the man holding the token here."
"But he…"
Huo Lianna, trembling, pointed at Ning Bei in the Pope's chair. Before she could say anything more, Bibi Dong interrupted her.
"Go out first!"
"Yes, teacher."
The little fox dared not argue further. She shot Ning Bei an angry glance, then quickly left the hall.
The vicious look on her face made Ning Bei scratch his head in confusion. He thought, this person might have a problem.
"Well, I'll leave then!"
"No need. Let's meet him together, shall we?"
Ning Bei: ??????
When I ask questions, it's not because I have a problem, it's because I think you have a problem. What are you keeping me here for with your old lover?
Although confused, Ning Bei didn't argue and decided to stay and watch the drama unfold.
He walked down from the high platform to stand beside Bibi Dong, observing her expression.
Once Huo Lianna had left the Pope's hall, Bibi Dong clenched her lips, and her voice took on a questioning tone:
"What do you think he's here for?"
Seeing her conflicted little expression, Ning Bei almost couldn't suppress his laughter. What else could he be here for? To ask you about the cultivation method for the Twin Martial Souls, and then have his disciple come and kill you?
Though he thought this in his head, saying it out loud would have been too hurtful. After pretending to think for a moment, Ning Bei falsely speculated:
"Could he be here to rekindle old flames with you? After all, there's no real obstacle between you two now, right?"
Upon hearing this, Bibi Dong tightened her fist, her nails digging into her palm.
In the countless nights when the power of the Rakshasa God had invaded her soul, she had hoped he would come to Spirit Hall to find her. But unfortunately, he had not.
She had been the Pope of Spirit Hall for many decades. If he truly cared about her, why would he have waited until now to come?
The most likely explanation was what Ning Bei had said earlier—he had come to ask for the cultivation method for the Twin Martial Souls for his disciple.
"Yu Xiaogang, you heartless bastard!"
Knowing that the person was the son of her bitter enemy, and yet he had concealed it, all the while trying to use their past bond to get the Twin Martial Souls' cultivation method.
Seeing the black aura manifesting above her head, the resentment and hatred now tangible, Ning Bei silently took out a Soul Cleansing Pill and placed it in Bibi Dong's mouth.
Bibi Dong, who had been immersed in her resentful thoughts, was startled by Ning Bei's actions. She stared at him in confusion.
After feeling the pill in her mouth, her expression gradually softened, and she silently swallowed it. The manifested resentment slowly dissipated.
"Maybe I should leave now?"
"Hmph, no need. Don't you want to see if your guess from a few years ago was correct?"
