Chapter 45 - Chapter 45: Selecting a Class Monitor

A storm was brewing in the workplace, but it had nothing to do with Yang Xiao and the others. Hime Shinpachi and Himejima Tae had already left the "battlefield," and any subsequent events wouldn't be traced back to them.

But this was just one of many orders. The core center of the Dismantling Workshop received numerous requests, not just this one.

So Yang Xiao might be busy during this period, but fortunately, he didn't have to personally go into the field; he just needed to sit in his chair and relay information.

U.A. High School

After All Might had been teaching here for a while, a group of reporters showed up. These reporters and the general public weren't easy to deal with. They blocked the school gate, questioning the students one by one about All Might's appointment.

Naturally, Yang Xiao was also approached, but he simply covered his face and ran off. The reporters were all puzzled. It wasn't like he was a criminal afraid of being on TV, so why would a student act like this?

Actually, Yang Xiao's concern was somewhat similar. Who knew how many people watched this news channel? What if those three time travelers saw it? Wouldn't that expose the fact that he was at U.A. High School ahead of time?

"Thank you for your hard work in yesterday's combat training," Shota Aizawa said from the podium. "I've seen the video and the results. Bakugo, you have plenty of ability. Don't act like a child anymore."

"...I know," Katsuki Bakugo replied absentmindedly.

Then Aizawa looked at Izuku Midoriya. "So, Midoriya... you ended up breaking your arm again this time? Control your Quirk. Don't keep using 'I can't do it, so there's nothing I can do' as an excuse. I don't like repeating myself. If you can overcome this, you can accomplish a lot."

Izuku Midoriya raised his head. Aizawa looked at him and said, "Hang in there, Midoriya."

"Yes!" Izuku Midoriya replied with determination in his eyes.

"Let's get to the main point of this homeroom period. Sorry for being a bit abrupt, but today I want to ask you all..."

Before Aizawa could finish, the students began speculating—was it another sudden training exercise?

"...to decide on the candidates for the class representative positions, that is, the class president and vice-president." Apparently, it wasn't what the students had imagined, but simply the election of class leaders.

"Finally, something that happens in a normal school…" all the students complained.

At that moment, everyone enthusiastically raised their hands.

"I want to be class president! Let me do it!" Eijiro Kirishima stood up, raising his hand.

"Me too," Denki Kaminari said, also raising a hand.

"I want to be one too," Momo Yaoyorozu added, raising her hand.

Basically, every student in the class volunteered to be class president. Perhaps only a few were unwilling, and Yang Xiao was one of them.

He already had enough on his plate. Becoming class president would just make him even busier.

However, Yang Xiao might be overthinking it. Perhaps he wouldn't be elected president at all.

In the General Studies course, the class president might feel like a general handyman, and the atmosphere wouldn't be this lively. But in the Hero Course, it was a position that involved leading the group and laying the foundation for becoming a top hero in the future.

"Quiet!" Tenya Iida suddenly shouted loudly. The noise in the classroom immediately ceased, and everyone looked at him.

"This is a role that carries immense responsibility, one that requires leadership! It's not something to be taken lightly! One must earn the trust of those around them to take on this sacred position! If we are to uphold democracy and allow everyone here to elect a true leader, then I believe this matter should be decided by a vote!"

Iida said this with great sincerity, though his own hand was raised rather shamelessly. Clearly, he also wanted to be the class president of Class 1-A—it was a great honor.

"Why suggest that?" Denki Kaminari asked, confused.

"We've only known each other for a short time, so there's no trust at all, Iida-chan," Tsuyu Asui said, poking her cheek with a finger.

Eijiro Kirishima also spread his hands and said, "They'll definitely just vote for themselves. Is there any point?"

"Therefore, in this situation, the one who can gather votes would be the one truly worthy of this great responsibility, correct?" Iida felt his reasoning was sound and turned to ask Aizawa beside him, "What do you think, sensei?"

Aizawa was already wrapped up in his yellow sleeping bag, looking like a caterpillar, and said lazily, "Do whatever you want. Just decide before the period ends."

"Thank you very much!" Iida said happily.

Next came the voting session. Everyone sat in their seats, thinking: should they vote for themselves or for someone else?

Shoto Todoroki was sitting in his seat when he heard a sound. He looked at Yang Xiao beside him. Yang Xiao also looked at Todoroki.

"Don't vote for me!" Yang Xiao mouthed the words to Shoto Todoroki and shook his hand.

Todoroki shook his head. This guy is really full of himself. Who said I was going to vote for you?

Seeing Todoroki shake his head, Yang Xiao felt relieved. He really didn't want to be class president anyway.

The results were clear. The outcome of this vote hadn't changed because of Yang Xiao's presence, though the details were slightly altered. First place was still Izuku Midoriya.

Second place was Tenya Iida—one of his votes came from Yang Xiao.

Third place was Momo Yaoyorozu.

"Who voted for Ponytail?! How could anyone vote for her?!" Katsuki Bakugo stood up immediately after seeing the results, furious.

"Well... I just figured it was better than voting for you," Hanta Sero said bluntly. He felt Bakugo was too violent and definitely not suited to be class president.

"What did you say, you bastard?!" Bakugo was about to grab Sero's collar but was stopped by Eijiro Kirishima standing nearby.

Someone nearby was whistling, leisurely looking around. Ochaco Uraraka was in a good mood—after all, she had voted for that person.

"I... I actually got two votes... and I'm tied with Yaoyorozu-san?" Tenya Iida stood up excitedly. This was beyond his imagination. Someone had actually voted for him, and more than one person!

After all, he had voted for someone else himself!

"To be precise, you're currently ranked one position ahead of Yaoyorozu," Yang Xiao interjected, because the second name on the blackboard was Tenya Iida. Even though the vote count was the same as Yaoyorozu's, there was still a positional difference.

"It doesn't seem to make much of a difference, does it, Yang-kun?" Iida glanced at Yang Xiao, slightly embarrassed. Suddenly, an idea struck him, and he pointed at Yang Xiao. "Could it be... you voted for me?"
