Chapter 7 - Mortal Soul... Fickle?

Raziel stood calmly as motes of energy converged around his frame, flooding into his being.

Urghhh...

His face suddenly tightened into a grimace as he felt a stabbing pain in his chest. "Urghhh..." Suppressing a groan, he staggered, struggling to maintain his balance.

"What the hell is happening?" He muttered delving into his body. Even his regeneration skill was unable to keep up with the damage he was receiving within.

The more the energy entered into his body, the more he felt the stabbing pain. His breath turned ragged as he struggled to remain on his feet.

His eyes glowed crimson as streaks of blood began to drip down his cheeks. Cracks slowly began to form across his fingers, climbing across his hands.

"Can it be?" He muttered with a frown. "Is this the effect of using the Devour ability?" He dropped to one knee as the cracks spread further, reddish dust escaping from his skin.

"It seems this body is still too weak to handle such power."

Since he awakened, he had been faced with perilous situations, forcing him to use the Devour ability over and over again. He never thought they would be an adverse effect. Hell! All his brewing plans had to be paused. He thought with a sigh.

"I guess I'll have to deactivate it for now. Too bad I couldn't fully absorb his essence." Deactivating his innate ability, Raziel felt a huge weight pressing over him fade away. He watched as the sparkling essence around him dissipated into nothing.

His body finally stopped crumbling apart with the regeneration skill working tirelessly in repairing the damage.

...

Far away, on a massive tree spanning metres high, a figure sat atop one of its branch, their hair swaying softly across the wind.

"Interesting. He's really alive... and even different now. As much as I love to stay and watch what he does next, I guess it's time to move."

Jumping down from the tree, their speed slowed down just before they reached the ground, landing softly.

"I better hurry before it gets to him."

...

Raziel sat on the ground, slowly recovering from his wounds. His face was a bit pale with beads of sweat rolling down his brow.

Though the regeneration skill had been able to mend his body, he still felt weak. Not only that, a storm of untamed energy had gathered within his body, just below his heart, waiting for assimilation.

"Not here. I can't do that now," he muttered, shaking his head. Trying to fix the issue of the energy would leave his body defenceless while he delved in.

He needed to exit the pocket dimension first before anything else.

"I guess my little hunting trip has come to an end." Letting out a tired sigh, he slowly rose to his feet.

His body suddenly froze as he felt an overbearing weight slam upon him. He felt his heart beat quickened as a malevolent intent spread over the area.

"Ahhh. The fragility of a mortal body." He muttered with a weak smile. Raziel had noticed the battle between Bo and the creature ended few seconds ago. All he thought was the monster won't step out from its territory. But it seemed his calculations were wrong.

The Demic was still alive. Bo had most likely been killed and devoured by it.

"Ahhh. How did I not think about this." Raziel was used with charging head-on with his overwhelming strength. He was never one to scheme and lay traps behind the shadows.

But his body was weak now, scheming was going to become part of his everyday life, and he needed to get used to it.

But he didn't have to worry. After all, he was a quick learner.

All he needed to do was survive this battle and then get the hell out of this accursed dimension.

The creature finally revealed itself, its maw hanging low with bits of flesh and blood visible on its teeth.

Its six arms were covered in blood, still slick and dripping slowly to the ground.

He felt more like a tiny prey in front of the Demic. Its burning gaze landed on Raziel, who stood a few metres away from it as if trying to scare him.

Yet he felt nothing. After all, he had faced more terrifying beings, gods even... so its aura didn't frighten him one bit.

If he was going to die here, then it was best he went all out. He wasn't going to let it take his life that easily. More importantly, he didn't plan on dying. He was going to survive the battle, he didnt care what it caused him.

"This is quite risky..."

Tsk... what was he even saying. Risk? He had been doing that since his awakening.

Already exhausting the Amplifier skill for the day, he was left with his own strength.

If he wanted to defeat this monster... if he wanted to survive... then he needed all the power he could get.

"It'll leave quite the damage later on... but I think it's worth it." He muttered as he focused on the storm of energy swirling within him.

His face suddenly split into a devilish smile as he stared at the creature. "Are you done fooling around? Then come get me."

As if understanding his words, the creature roared in fury his form blurring from view.

Raziel was unable to track its movement. One moment, it was on the other side of the field the next moment he was before him. So close, he could perceive its foul breath.

Looming above him were two of its fists clenched tightly and brimming with energy.

Then it fell upon him.

It felt like an entire mountain had collapsed on him. He couldn't breathe. His chest was burning with pain with his vision blanked out.

"I really did underestimated it, huh?"

"No, not that he underestimated it... it was this body of his."

"Ahhh... the soul of a mortal was truly fickle."

Light finally filtered into his eyes as he slowly regained his vision.

"I wonder what it's waiting for to end it. Or is it trying to toy with me?"

His body moved involuntarily, hunching forward as he vomited a pool of blood along with bits and pieces of organs.

If it was trying to break him, then it was for no avail. After all, even the gods had failed at that.

His blurry gaze finally landed at a figure before him, but he was unprepared for what he saw next.

His senses were the first to pick it, a peculiar aura that envoleped his body in warmth.

And then the figure before him. A pair of hands moved forward at blinding speed, wrapping across his neck and pulling his face into a huge bosom.

"Oh my! That damn creature! I'm so so sorry I didn't come earlier." The voice was soft and surprisingly sweet.

Raziel was too weak to resist as he felt his body give in to the soft embrace.

"But don't worry...

I'll get you fixed in no time... Master!"
