Just as Peter was about to follow up with another strike, his Spider-Sense suddenly went wild.
Without thinking, he dodged to the side.
A split second later, a huge figure swept past him.
It was a man in a yellow-green scorpion suit — his entire body encased in mechanical armor shaped like a scorpion, complete with a long, segmented tail tipped with a stinger.
MacDonald Gargan, alias Scorpion.Just as scorpions are the natural enemies of spiders, the Scorpion was one of the blond Spider-Man's archenemies.
He'd once been a private investigator, hired to uncover the blond Spider-Man's real identity.
But every time, the blond Spider-Man's Spider-Sense had ruined his tailing efforts — he never got a thing.
Later, Gargan somehow got his hands on a high-tech combat suit modeled after a scorpion.
That suit, however, seemed to affect his mind — twisting him, making him paranoid and obsessed with hunting Spider-Man.
Annoying beyond words.
Still, among all the villains, Scorpion was one of the more principled ones — or rather, one of those so fixated on Spider-Man that he hardly noticed anyone else.
So while he often went after the blond Spider-Man, he rarely harmed bystanders.
The blond Spider-Man found him a nuisance, sure — but he couldn't just kill or cripple him for that.
After all, Spider-Man belonged to the "no-killing" camp.
That was precisely why Kingpin and so many villains could keep opposing him.
But now, Scorpion was facing Peter — who, despite looking like the 26-year-old blond Spider-Man, was in truth a 15-year-old kid.
Not that that was the crucial difference. The crucial part was — this "kid" had already survived several worlds.
He'd show them: not every Spider-Man is easy to mess with.
Peter grabbed the Scorpion's tail, yanking it hard — and slammed the villain straight toward Doctor Octopus."How about a Scorpion special, on the house?"
Doctor Octopus coolly swung one of her fluid-metal tentacles, smashing Scorpion away.
"Where are the others? Why is it just you two?" one of her tentacles suddenly snaked out, seizing Miles by the throat and hoisting him into the air.
Miles clawed at it desperately, kicking and struggling, but it was useless.
His dark skin was turning purple — he could barely breathe.
Peter had plans for the kid — he was supposed to inherit the blond Spider-Man's mantle one day. He couldn't just let him die here.
Abandoning his follow-up on Scorpion, Peter lunged at Doctor Octopus again.
But Octavius seemed determined to kill Miles first.
Two tentacles blocked Peter's attacks while a third kept twisting and dodging, preventing him from getting close.
If this went on much longer, Miles might really be strangled to death.
Just then, their teammates finally arrived.
Amazing Spider-Man B grabbed the tentacle holding Miles with one hand and punched at Octavius with the other, forcing her to divert her focus.
At the same time, Spider-Gwen attacked from the side, prying open the claw at the end of the mechanical limb and freeing Miles.
Across the way, Scorpion — who had just staggered back to his feet — took a bullet straight to the head.
If not for the cybernetic enhancements that reinforced even his skull, that shot would've killed him.
The one who fired, of course, was Spider-Man Noir.
Enraged, Scorpion completely forgot about Peter and charged at Noir instead.
After all, a Spider-Man was a Spider-Man.
Meanwhile, sleepy-eyed Peni yawned — her SP//dr mech behind her mimicked the gesture perfectly.
The big and small figures stood in front of Aunt May's house, looking almost cute.
Not far away, Tombstone was finally stirring.
He planted both hands on the ground, trying to pull his head out from the pavement.
That was when Spider-Ham dropped from the sky — holding an oversized wooden mallet completely disproportionate to his body.
Duang!
With one blow, he smashed Tombstone right back into the street.
"You look more like marble to me. Perfect paving stone material — so just stay put," Spider-Ham said, plopping himself down on top of the villain.
Whether it was the critical hit from that hammer, or the surprising weight of that tiny body —either way, Tombstone was completely motionless.
Dead or not, Peter didn't care.
He had more pressing matters.
He and Amazing Spider-Man B, Miles, and Gwen now surrounded Doctor Octopus in a tight circle.
Peter spread his hands. "Ms. Octavius, care to keep this fight going?"
"One, two, three… seven. Seven spiders?!" Doctor Octopus muttered, counting them over and over, her voice trembling with disbelief. "There should only be five!"
"Liv?" Amazing Spider-Man B took a cautious step forward.
Octavius suddenly snapped her head up, eyes blazing. "How many of you are from the same world? Or— are two of you from this world?"
Peter's eyes narrowed.
He hadn't given anything away. How had she guessed that?
Miles, instinctively, glanced at him.
And that one glance — was all Octavius needed to confirm it.
"You! It's you! You're from this world, aren't you?" she shouted, pointing straight at Peter.
Peter chuckled softly. "Sorry to disappoint — I'm not from this world."
"Heh. We'll see about that — after I capture you and run some tests."
With a snarl, Octavius hurled her fluid-metal tentacles at him.
Peter smirked. What makes you think you can catch me?
Buzz!
His Spider-Sense went off again.
He leapt aside just in time — a spray of bullets tore through where he'd just been standing.
"A gunman?" Peter raised an eyebrow. Unexpected, yet somehow unsurprising.
Kingpin was the big boss of Hell's Kitchen, controlling multiple crime syndicates — Tombstone's crew among them.
If he'd come to make trouble, it made sense he'd bring some armed muscle.
Still — this was a public street!
To pull guns so openly? Kingpin's influence must be enormous.
And this wasn't even the Great Depression era from Spider-Man Noir's world!
"I'll handle the shooters," said Gwen, disappearing in a blur.
"Then, should I—?" Miles began.
"Big Peter — Kingpin's in that car. Cut off the head, the body dies," Peter said, pointing.
"Got it!" Amazing Spider-Man B nodded and charged toward Kingpin's vehicle.
Miles, seeing that, followed Gwen to deal with the gunmen.
And once again, only Peter and Doctor Octopus remained.
