Chapter 132 - Return to the Amazing Universe

As for arrangements concerning Ned and Betty—

After asking for their opinions, the Spider-Man Mini-Team was officially established.

Captain, combat lead, and public face:"Spider-Man" — Peter Parker.

IT and technical support:"R2" — Ned Leeds.

Public relations and image output:"Golden Cat" — Betty Brant.

The code names "R2" and "Golden Cat" were chosen by Ned and Betty in reference to "Spider-Man."

Ned's "R2" was inspired by the Star Wars series.

In those films, there's a clever and courageous astromech droid named R2-D2. Small in size—only 0.96 meters tall—its round, chunky form looks adorably clumsy.

Yet inside that body are numerous tool-equipped mechanical arms, making it an exceptional starship mechanic and computer interface specialist.

It is also one of the very few characters who appear in every Star Wars movie.

In terms of appearance, Ned felt that R2-D2 resembled him—both were short and chubby.

As for ability, he hoped he could become someone useful like R2—someone who could truly help Peter.

His code name also carried a wish for the future:he wanted to be like R2, appearing in every "season" of Spider-Man's life, and hoped his friendship with Peter would last forever.

Betty's "Golden Cat," meanwhile, was inspired by Black Cat.

"Black Cat" was the character she had played in the school stage play in which she and Peter became closer.

"Golden" referred to her own hair.

Peter had said he really liked her blonde hair.

Put together, she became the Golden Cat.

With their division of labor clearly established—

Once the Spider-Man Mini-Team was formed, Peter took the two of them on a weekend trip. They rode the subway to the New Avengers Facility in northern New York, where he (showed off) toured his personal laboratory and his assigned resting quarters.

The next day, Peter had Stark Industries rent a room in Queens as the activity base for the Spider-Team.

He then directly purchased several computers from Stark Industries at internal employee pricing. The room already had a refrigerator, air conditioner, and kitchen appliances.

And just like that, the Spider-Team's activity room was complete.

Once the Spider-Team was set up, Peter indeed noticed a significant improvement in his efficiency.

Although he had his beginner-level AI assistant Karen, Ned's work didn't overlap with hers.

For example, when two incidents occurred at once:

Karen would categorize them according to impact and potential damage, then guide Peter accordingly.

Ned, on the other hand, would help Peter evaluate them from a human perspective.

Karen's approach wasn't wrong—she was an AI, and sometimes she couldn't understand human emotions, so her analysis was based solely on data.

But from Peter's point of view, he naturally preferred the latter.

Of course, the two weren't in conflict; they complemented each other.

Once Peter decided on his target, Karen would rapidly map the fastest route using street data—

something Ned couldn't do.

With the help of both a human friend and an AI, Peter could now rapidly gather information about events happening in Queens, cross-analyze them, process them quickly, and respond in real time.

Spider-Man's efficiency skyrocketed!

Meanwhile, Betty—acting as the Spider-Man Support Squad's PR—opened accounts on Blue Bird, Facebook, and other social media platforms. She posted videos and soft content based on Peter's daily activities.

In just a few days, the accounts had attracted many people interested in Spider-Man.

Because of this, Spider-Man became the city's hottest topic.

But Peter felt this popularity might also be pushed by the Avengers.

He went to ask Tony Stark—and, sure enough, that was the case.

Stark explained that with Cap and others gone, the Avengers really needed a bit of image rehabilitation.

Iron Man's image was always heroic—if not a little arrogant—but the Avengers still needed new blood.

In fact, even if Peter hadn't done all this himself, Stark had been planning to help him anyway.

Those videos Peter posted online before forming his Spider-Team were released with the Avengers' tacit approval.

They even helped him conceal certain sensitive details.

That day, before school even ended, Peter slipped away quietly and went straight to the Spider Hub.

After leaving a message for Ned and Betty explaining the situation, he lay down on the lounge sofa and fell into deep sleep.

The reason was simple:one of the glowing nodes in the luminous web inside his mind had been continuously sending a distress signal.

Within the urgent emotional pulse, Peter sensed helplessness.

That glowing node belonged to the universe Earth-120703—

The Amazing Spider-Man Universe!

The other Spider-Man must have encountered a tremendous crisis to send such an intense plea for help.

Peter felt he had to go.

When Peter opened his eyes, he had already arrived—inside the body of the Amazing Spider-Man.

Memories surged into his mind.

He realized a lot had happened since his last visit.

It had been a full year since he and the Amazing Spider-Man captured Dr. Curt Connors after his transformation into the Lizard.

Now, the Amazing Spider-Man had just held his graduation ceremony—he'd graduated from Midtown Science High School.

His relationship with Gwen Stacy was progressing smoothly.

Because of the Lizard incident, Gwen's father, Captain Stacy, had changed his opinion of Spider-Man.

Although he still wasn't fond of a masked vigilante, at least he no longer treated him with hostility.

Over the past year, the city had gradually gotten used to having a Spider-Man swinging around.

(And of course, the Daily Bugle's JJJ was still tirelessly slandering him.)

Amusingly, like many other Spider-Men, this Amazing Spider-Man was still taking photos of himself and selling them to the very newspaper that slandered him, just to earn a living.

Life had continued like this until recently—

When several incidents occurred in succession.

First:A man in a massive Rhino suit caused havoc on the streets. The Amazing Spider-Man caught him—but he was soon broken out of prison.

Second:Dr. Curt Connors was secretly taken from prison by unknown parties.

Third:An Electro-like figure appeared in central Manhattan—his whole body crackling with electricity like an elemental spirit. After a fierce battle, the Amazing Spider-Man defeated him and handed him over to Captain Stacy.

Fourth:For several months, a man named MacDonald "Mac" Gargan had been secretly tailing and investigating the Amazing Spider-Man, though the latter always evaded him thanks to his spider-sense.

Fifth:Norman Osborn of Oscorp, suffering from a genetic disease, had passed away. His son, Harry Osborn—also the Amazing Spider-Man's childhood friend—returned but was ostracized and nearly lost control of the company.
