Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Beneath the dim, somber night, the final, deadly mission was reaching its climax.

Long Wei, a legendary assassin, kept his focus sharp. Every step was measured and calculated—the lethal dance he had perfected over years.

The city, usually loud and bustling, had fallen silent, as if sensing the killer's presence and making way for his work. Empty streets welcomed his advance; only the wind rustling through leaves broke the quiet.

Long Wei slipped through the shadows, moving with the grace and efficiency of a ghost. Inside his chest, his heart beat in a steady rhythm—the calm only known to those who have stared death in the face countless times.

Yet even as he moved with flawless precision, a strange unease began to creep into his mind. He had planned every detail of this mission down to the smallest mark, but a heavy premonition weighed on him. Something was wrong—he could feel it.

As he neared his target, a voice cut through the darkness: familiar, yet now twisted and cold.

With a cold gaze and a cunning smile, it spoke: "Long Wei… I never thought you would make it this far."

Long Wei froze, his entire body tensing. From the shadows stepped Wei Fang—once his closest ally.

"Wei Fang… what is the meaning of this?" Long Wei asked, his voice flat but his eyes sharp with suspicion.

"Forgive me, Long Wei," came the reply. "But this is where our journey together ends."

A surge of rage rose within him. The final mission assigned by the Association had been nothing but a lie.

A few days earlier, Long Wei had decided to walk away. He asked for his retirement.

The Association agreed—but only on one condition: he must first complete one last assignment, meant to be the closing chapter of his career.

He was called to a hidden meeting room, where the Association's leader sat watching him with sharp, cold eyes.

"Long Wei, your choice to retire is respected," the leader said, his voice calm yet commanding. "But before you leave, there is one final task you must carry out. It will be our last mark of honor toward you."

Long Wei stared back without expression, though doubt stirred in his heart. "What is it?"

"We need you to finish a critical mission," the leader answered. "It will be our final tribute to your service."

Long Wei nodded, even as his instincts screamed that something was being hidden. He had learned to read every subtle shift in tone and mannerism over the years. But before he could press further, the leader added sharply: "Never forget, Long Wei—we have rules, and rules must be followed."

After the meeting, Long Wei set out, but suspicion lingered. He stepped into the shadows knowing full well he might be walking into a trap.

Back at headquarters, the leader lifted the phone, his face dark. "Make sure Long Wei never returns," he ordered his subordinate. "This is the end of his time with us."

Now, with tension reaching its breaking point, Long Wei had only one goal: survive, and uncover the truth behind the mission that had turned into a death trap set by the very organization he had served faithfully.

"You really believed you could trust everyone around you?" Wei Fang sneered. "This world runs on betrayal, Long Wei. Even I am no exception."

In an instant, Long Wei realized he had been played. A sudden strike came from the front, forcing him to turn and face his former friend.

"I never imagined you would go this far, Wei Fang. Why?" Long Wei asked, struggling to hold back his fury.

"Money, power, and the chance to rule this underworld—they mean far more than blind loyalty," Wei Fang replied. "I'm sorry, but this is the end for you."

With that, he launched into a relentless assault.

Long Wei took a deep breath to steady himself. "I should have known better," he murmured, dodging every bullet fired his way. "In our world, there is no room for trust."

Wei Fang stepped closer, gripping a hidden weapon. "This is the end of your road, Long Wei."

Long Wei smiled faintly—a bitter mix of regret and resolve. "We shall see who survives this night."

The battle erupted, a deadly dance both men had mastered. Every strike, every movement, carried lethal force and years of training. The dark night bore silent witness to the duel that would decide their fates.

Beneath the starry sky, the fight reached its peak. Two figures stood facing each other, the air thick with tension. The night wind stirred their hair and the leaves around them, as if whispering over the bloodshed to come.

"Your challenge ends here," Wei Fang hissed, drawing his pistol in one fluid motion.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Long Wei moved like a shadow, slipping past every shot. "You cannot stop me," he answered quietly. His sword slid free, glinting coldly in the moonlight.

Swish! Swish! Swish!

His attacks came fast and precise, each one aimed to kill. Yet Wei Fang evaded every strike with ease. Long Wei recognized the pattern immediately—it was the very technique he had taught his former partner. A bitter smile touched his lips as memories of their past flashed through his mind.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Wei Fang fired again, bullets tearing through the air.

"Is that all you've learned from me?" Long Wei taunted, dodging swiftly and countering with a fierce slash of his blade.

Wei Fang backed away, trying to create distance for a clearer shot—but Long Wei charged forward with brutal, overwhelming force.

Once more, darkness became their silent witness. Two men who had sworn to stand together through life and death were now sworn enemies. Long Wei felt a deep, heavy hurt; the world they lived in had truly warped Wei Fang beyond recognition.

With every blow that landed, memories of their shared past came flooding back. The night echoed with gunfire, the rush of footsteps, and the heavy breathing of two men locked in mortal combat.

Yet as they fought, doubt began to grow in Long Wei.

"Wei Fang—answer me one more time," he called out, his voice sharp with suspicion. "Is this really all about money and power? Your strikes… they are not as cold, not as ruthless as when you took other lives."

"It is exactly what I said!" Wei Fang snapped—but his hesitation only deepened Long Wei's uncertainty.

The battle raged on: gunshots clashing with the ring of steel. In a split second, Wei Fang's pistol clicked empty as he reloaded.

Long Wei seized the chance. Whoosh! His sword cut through the air, aimed with deadly accuracy. Wei Fang barely dodged in time.

"In this darkness, there is nowhere left to hide," Wei Fang jeered, trying to regain control with long-range fire.

"Fear only eats you alive," Long Wei replied, ducking shots and pressing forward with sharp, relentless counterattacks.

The fight dragged on through the shadows, a brutal test of strength, skill, and endurance. Only one would walk away victorious—and the night would keep their secret, a legend spoken of only in whispers.

But at the height of their clash, Long Wei stumbled. A sharp, searing pain pierced his side—Wei Fang had drawn a poisoned dagger hidden beneath his coat.

Blood poured out in thick streams. Long Wei looked up, his eyes burning with bitterness and confusion.

"Why?" he asked, his voice growing weak.

Wei Fang laughed softly, cold as the night air. "This is a cruel world, Long Wei. Loyalty is a luxury we can never afford."

He raised his pistol once more.

With the last of his strength, Long Wei reached out—but his limbs refused to obey.

"Why, Wei Fang?" he whispered hoarsely, staring at the man standing before him, blade still dripping with his blood. "What did I ever do to you?"

Wei Fang's face remained cold, empty of regret.

"This is not about what you did," he said calmly. "It is about what you could have done for me. I need this power more than you do."

Long Wei tried to lift his hand to press against his wound, but his body felt impossibly heavy. His breath grew shallow, and darkness began to creep in from all sides.

"You… you betrayed me," he managed to say, his tongue thick and his mouth filling with the metallic taste of his own blood.

Wei Fang nodded slowly. "I had no choice. This world is unforgiving—only the strong survive. Forgive me."

With that, he turned and left Long Wei alone in the dark.

Beneath the black sky, Long Wei breathed his last, consumed by the bitter sting of betrayal. He left behind the world he had known and served—killed in cold blood by the person he had trusted most.
