Davina's POV
I wrap my arms tightly around myself, as if I'm the only thing preventing me from completely falling apart.
My chest feels like it's carrying a heavy weight, my throat aches, and no matter how much I blink, my eyes continue to sting.
I can't understand why the tears are fighting so hard to spill, why all I want is to collapse into myself and cry until I'm completely empty inside.
Perhaps it's how the day shifted. Perhaps it's how quickly everything went from ordinary to horrifying. Or perhaps it's simply that I'm drained...drained from staying strong, from wearing a mask, from acting like I'm not on the verge of shattering.
The second we reach the parking lot, I freeze as Chase suddenly tenses next to me. His gaze catches something far away, and before I can even question what's wrong, a name escapes his lips.

My heart plummets. I had completely forgotten he was supposed to come here. Actually, I had managed to push him entirely from my mind.
