Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: New Home[3]

"What?"

Hua's father was a little surprised.

Although he wanted such a response he didn't expect him to give in so easily.

'Well, this makes things easier now."

Hua's father was a kind person but he wasn't stupid enough to let someone he didn't even know live in his house for more than few days. So he had decided to let Han Yu stay only if he could benefit him in some way.

Since Han Yu wanted a job, Hua's father had expected him to give some of his salary to him as rent.

"per month?"

"per month."

Han Yu clarified.

"Okay then."

Hua's father stood up.

"Tomorrow, I will bring you to a friend of mine. He should be able to provide you with a job."

"For now you can sleep. We will talk about the rent after you get your job."

Hua's father walked up to his room.

Han Yu also stood and sensed a glare from his right.

It was Hua Ling.

She was looking at him with anger in her eyes like he had murdered her family or something.

"I will deal with you later."

She mumbled and went to her room.

Remembering the anger in her eyes, Han Yu decided to stay away from her for sometime.

Next morning:

Han Yu was standing in front of a wide building which was looking like someone rich lived here.

Han Yu along with Hua's father entered through the gate.

On entering they saw a field in the middle of the building.

They walked in the corridor which was made of wooden floor.

Soon, they entered a room.

In the room, there was a middle aged man sitting on his chair and reading some papers which were spread on his desk.

"Mister Yang."

Hua's father called out.

The man moved his head and looked in the direction the voice came from.

He opened his mouth and said

"Oh! Mister Ling!"

"How have you been? Mister Yang."

"I've been like I always am. So? What business have you come here for?"

He looked to his left.

"And who is this young man? Your friend or your dau.."

"He is just a acquaintance of mine."

Hua's father interrupted.

"I have come to ask if you could provide him with a job."

"Oh?"

Mister Yang exclaimed.

"Hmm."

He looked towards Han Yu and said

"What do you do the best?"

"I am most proficient in combat."

Han Yu said.

"Oh! Would it be okay with you if i test you with a friendly battle against one of my men."

"Yes, it would be okay as long as it's friendly."

"Well then..."

Yang stood up and pointed to a man standing outside of his room.

"You will fight him."

Han Yu turned his head and looked towards the man Yang had pointed out.

He was a middle aged man with a well built body and a little bit taller than Han Yu.

He looked stronger than a regular man.

"So?"

Han Yu turned his head to face Yang.

"Shall we begin?"

...

In the field...

Han Yu was standing and in front of him was his opponent whom he was about to fight.

Han Yu wasn't very confident in his victory but he had no choice but to give it a go.

"I'll explain the rules of this fight."

Yang spoke.

"As this is a friendly battle, killing is not allowed as well as an incurable injury."

"The match shall end when either one of the fighters give up or become unable to fight."

"Any questions?"

"...."

There was silence.

"Okay, then..."

"Fight!"

On hearing the signal Han Yu moved his body towards his opponent in front of him and in a moment he appeared in from of him.

Han Yu threw a punch towards his chin but the opponent was able to avoid it by moving his head very quickly.

At the same time, the man threw a punch towards the side of Han Yu's face.

Han Yu avoided the punch by taking a step back just on time.

While all this was happening...

"Hmm, the boy looks talented."

Yang spoke while watching the fight.

Yang knew that the man Han Yu was fighting was someone very experienced in combat.

Although he was not very strong his experience was enough to make any above average fighter taste dirt.

...

The fight continued until Han Yu's opponent was looking like he could fall on the ground anytime.

His breathing was rough and sweat was trickling down his forehead.

'He's quite tough...'

Han Yu was also looking tired but he looked much better than his opponent.

He was about to step forward for another attack but a voice stopped him.

"Okay, It's enough. The battle is over."

Han Yu looked towards where the voice was coming from.

It was mister Yang.

"You were better than I expected. I didn't think that you could defeat him."

The man who was panting heavily after fighting Han Yu took some steps and was now standing right next to mister Yang.

"You are pretty good."

"You would be a good guard."

Hua's father heard his words and said

"So? You can provide him a job?"

"Yes, I can provide him a pretty decent job."

"Would you like to work as a guard? Your salary would be two siemen stones.

Two siemen stones sounds like a really low amount but it's actually quite decent.

For instance, a family of three can live comfortably with a single siemen stone.

So, two siemen stones for the job of a guard was actually a pretty good offer.

But because it was this good, Han Yu felt like there is a catch to this job mister Yang is talking about.

"Is there a catch?"

He directly asked.

"Hm?"

"Well, I won't really call it a catch cause the task I am about to give you is literally the work of a guard."

"Is there something important that I am supposed to guard?"

"Not something but someone."

Mister Yang interrupted.

"Who?"

Han Yu asked sensing something wrong.

"It's the village chief's daughter."
