Chapter 79 - Chapter 78: The Green Lantern Corps is Wiped Out Again (and again and again)!

"You seem to not want to continue fighting me."

"I think, perhaps there's some misunderstanding between us. We just came to find new recruits for the Corps."

Boudicca said, shifting her gaze to Hal's face.

"Earthling Hal Jordan, although you have been chosen by the ring~."

"But until the Guardians decide, you can't really be considered a true Green Lantern."

She paused before asking, "Abin Sur... where is his body?"

In truth, she and her companions had long guessed the outcome, but she couldn't help but ask.

Although she had secretly switched allegiance, Boudicca's respect for Abin Sur was not false.

"He... exploded along with the spaceship."

Boudicca and Tomar-Re bowed their heads sadly, reluctantly accepting the fact that their comrade had died without a complete corpse.

Hal decided to change the atmosphere: "I heard him say that the Guardians would send someone to find me. Were you the ones he was talking about?"

Boudicca and Tomar-Re exchanged glances. Having been defeated so miserably, they were too embarrassed to say that their original purpose was to reclaim Abin Sur's ring.

"Hmph~"

Dane tossed the large hand of water upwards, and Kilowog's unconscious body was thrown onto the shore.

Boudicca could only honestly answer according to Corps rules: "That's right, we came to take you back to discuss it."

"The Guardians are still deliberating on the proposal of whether to make you a member of the Green Lantern Corps."

"If you are willing..."

Originally, the Green Lantern Corps would never be so humble, but who could blame them when their skills were inferior?

Under Dane's watchful eye, Boudicca could only persuade him gently.

Back when Boudicca joined the Corps, Sinestro had imperiously brought people directly to Oa for training.

He never asked if she agreed, but this also solidified her loyalty to Sinestro; she was inherently a hawk.

It seemed only Sinestro could change the Corps' declining situation.

She thought to herself.

Although Hal had mentally prepared for this, he was still a bit nervous when the moment arrived. He subconsciously looked at Dane.

Dane said directly, "Since these are the rules of the Green Lantern Corps, Hal, whether you are willing to go to Oa for the trial depends on your will."

"However..."

This sentence made Boudicca's heart leap.

Dane looked at Boudicca expressionlessly: "No matter the final outcome, Hal Jordan is a part of Earth."

"I hope he returns to Earth unharmed. I haven't properly introduced myself yet, have I?"

Hearing him say this, Boudicca and Tomar-Re both perked up their ears to listen.

"My name is Shazam, and I am one of the Guardians of this World."

"If anything happens to Hal Jordan, no matter where you are, no matter how many of you there are."

"You will face the wrath of the Justice League!"

As soon as he finished speaking, violent thunder suddenly rumbled in the sky, and dark clouds gathered out of nowhere.

The sea became stormy, with surging waves, occasionally rolling up monstrous swells.

As lightning snakes flashed, Dane's figure, like a colossal pillar reaching the heavens, floated before them.

The power of the Old Gods brought about a massive change in the weather, and a heavy pressure, like a towering mountain, enveloped everyone.

One must know, it was a clear day just moments ago!

Hal didn't feel scared; on the contrary, his heart felt warm and deeply moved.

Boudicca said with difficulty, "I understand. In the name of the Green Lantern Corps, we will absolutely guarantee Hal Jordan's safety!"

By the time she finished speaking and came back to her senses.

Dane's figure was no longer visible. She looked up at the sky.

The dark clouds gradually dispersed. She looked down at the sea, which was as still as if it had never rippled.

This power was too terrifying; merely an emotional fluctuation could trigger such a strong reaction from natural phenomena.

She vaguely remembered that there seemed to be a class of powerful lifeforms in the Universe whose every action was an embodiment of natural forces.

They were more direct and even rarer than the power of the Emotional Spectrum.

Boudicca recalled carefully and finally remembered their name—the Old Gods!

Universe, Sector 2312, on the edge of the Milky Way Galaxy.

Sinestro, after careful selection, finally chose about three hundred elite Corps members to go and conquer Parallax.

These members were all hand-picked by him, belonging to the most elite handful.

Even so, this already accounted for nearly one-tenth of the entire Corps' combat power.

Oa divides the Universe into 3600 sectors, so normally, there are only 3600 Green Lanterns stationed.

The rest are reserve members, new recruits who haven't seen much battlefield action.

If these three hundred green lantern elites were all lost here, it would surely severely cripple the Green Lantern Corps.

Thinking of this, a faint smile involuntarily appeared at the corner of Sinestro's mouth.

On a lifeless Planet, Parallax's massive body was coiled in the atmosphere, feigning sleep.

It was digesting its recent gains; the amount of fear from an entire Planet was enormous, and it felt a bit bloated.

Just then, it noticed hundreds of green "little bugs" flying towards it from distant space.

"The Green Lantern Corps, ha!"

Being able to have a little dessert after a meal, Parallax instantly felt life was full of happiness.

Sinestro led the charge, but as he delivered his first strike, his position had subtly shifted backward.

The other Green Lanterns, unaware, quickly filled the void.

They collectively used Green Lantern energy to materialize a giant cage, enveloping Parallax.

"You guys are truly adorable little things!"

Parallax saw this and laughed maniacally. Its octopus-like tentacles retracted and expanded, instantly bursting the green cage.

Impacted by this, hundreds of Green Lanterns were sent flying backward, expending great effort to stop themselves.

"Its power is too strong!" one Green Lantern said.

"Let it taste this!"

Sinestro's trip was not only to weaken the Green Lantern Corps' strength but also to test the power of yellow energy.

So he didn't slack off and seriously engaged in battle.

Under the influence of his willpower, a nearby satellite was pulled by his power, gradually changing its orbit.

Seeing this, the other Green Lanterns also unleashed green light energy, their wills coalescing into one.

The satellite moved towards Parallax according to their will; although it seemed slow, by the time Parallax noticed, the satellite was already close.

The Planet's gravity captured it, making it difficult for Parallax to move freely.

But Parallax didn't care; it cackled.

Its yellow, murky tentacles swung out, grabbing the satellite as easily as if it were a bowling ball.

The tentacles contracted, directly crushing the small satellite.

The shattered debris compressed the internal core, ultimately triggering a violent explosion.

Dust and debris scattered, and the shockwave, like an unstoppable city wall, once again knocked all the Green Lanterns flying.

"You are too weak!" Parallax roared.

Its large yellow eyes glared fixedly at all the Green Lanterns, and an invisible force emanated from its body.

In that instant, except for Sinestro, whose will was the firmest, all other Green Lanterns felt their hearts squeezed by a large hand.

Irresistible fear instantly surged into their minds.

Just as their wills wavered, yellow phantoms began to appear on their bodies.

The phantoms resembled the skeletal structure within the Green Lanterns, a manifestation of their inner fear and life force.

Parallax was overjoyed at the sight. It opened its gaping maw, and a yellow vortex, like a tornado, spun within its mouth.

The yellow fear manifested by the Green Lanterns was drawn by this suction, leaving their bodies and flying into Parallax's mouth.

"This is incredible! This power is far stronger than the power of green lantern!"

Sinestro, far from being alarmed, was pleased. He now had even more confidence in forming his Yellow Lantern Corps.

Parallax saw that there was still one little bug left, and its yellow tentacles extended again.

But this time, it failed to catch Sinestro.

Its massive size meant its movements were not agile.

This was also one of the reasons Dane felt it was not as strong as the two entities before their fusion; if it weren't for Earth being such a large target that it couldn't escape.

The superheroes could easily kite it; even if they couldn't defeat it, escaping would be no problem at all.

Parallax's most powerful ability was fear manifestation.

It could trigger the fear within living beings, rendering them immobile, and then slowly devour them.

But if the target could overcome this fear, then Parallax actually had no way to deal with the target.

Sinestro was one such person who could overcome fear; there was a reason he was hailed as the greatest Green Lantern.

"Our battle, let's save it for next time, Parallax."

Sinestro said, no longer paying attention to Parallax's roars behind him, and drilled into the wormhole constructed by green light energy.

The wormhole vanished, and Sinestro disappeared from sight.

Parallax thrashed about in frustration, roaring angrily in its place...
