Chapter 84 - Chapter 83 You. Died

"I've always felt that linguistic descriptions tend to distort the narrative entity; if you don't mind, I can let you see my memories."

Dane said, extending his hand.

The Martian Manhunter has telepathic abilities, and not only that, he can also merge with the target's thoughts and feel their emotions.

For Dane to say this showed immense sincerity and trust.

So much so that the Martian Manhunter couldn't help but ask, "Are you sure?"

"Of course." Dane had that confidence.

Because he had already locked away the things he truly didn't want the other party to see.

Techniques like "brain sealing" have a certain chance of being mastered even by ordinary people who don't practice magic.

At least Dane knew that Batman's efforts in brain defense were almost ~ insane.

He was even a little worried that the other party would drive himself crazy.

After a moment of hesitation, the Martian Manhunter finally accepted Dane's suggestion and took his hand.

In an instant, Ron felt himself arrive in another World; it looked like an ordinary city.

"This is Coast City."

Just as Ron, in the guise of Swannwick, was walking on the street, Dane's voice suddenly appeared.

He looked towards the source of the voice; Dane, dressed in casual clothes, stood by the curb, watching him.

This scene shouldn't be happening.

Because normally, it's very difficult for a person to make any changes to their own memories, let alone appear here.

Then he saw Dane point his hand towards the sky, and Ron followed his finger, looking up at the sky.

In that fleeting moment of looking up, a dark cloud suddenly descended from the clear sky.

This defied common sense, because this cloud descended from space.

Ron's vision was excellent; like Superman, he possessed microscopic and telescopic abilities.

He saw the physical form of that dark cloud, a grotesque and ugly yellow face opening its gaping maw towards Earth.

And the Martian Manhunter possessed nine sensory systems, and every single one was alarming him!

"What is that thing?"

Ron looked at the horizon in shock, a heavy feeling of impending storm weighing on his heart.

Dane still stood silently in place; the surrounding populace was still busy with their own affairs, no one anticipating a disaster about to strike.

He looked at Ron and said in a very calm tone, "It is Parallax, a monster formed by fear energy."

"It came to Earth to feed."

"Feed?" Ron's expression changed.

Dane nodded: "Parallax feeds on fear; it will trigger the fear in the hearts of all emotional beings, and then devour their fear along with their life force."

"Before coming here, it had already devoured several Planets."

Ron's heart began to panic, and at this moment, Parallax, which had already entered Earth's orbit, was clearly visible.

Among the surrounding pedestrians, someone finally noticed the anomaly in the sky.

"What the hell is that?"

A young man held his phone, pointing it at the sky and filming; he seemed to be live-streaming.

"Friends, have you ever seen this strange weather?"

Indeed not, because no cloud on Earth could grow a giant yellow face with countless writhing tentacles.

The young man quickly realized that it wasn't some special weather phenomenon at all; it was a species invasion!

Parallax's tentacles soon drooped onto the tops of skyscrapers; the yellow energy, as if alive, rapidly swept through the buildings enveloped in black smoke.

And anyone touched by the yellow energy was dissolved within ten seconds; once the yellow energy passed, only steaming mummies remained.

Ah—!!!

At this point, the citizens of Coast City finally understood that danger was approaching and instantly became like ants in a hot pan.

Screams, curses, cries, and car horns blared together; in just a few minutes, order was completely destroyed.

Dane still stood there, like a reef in the ocean, unmoving as the tide of people came and went.

Ron, meanwhile, did his best to rescue those around him who needed help, roaring at Dane:

"Do something!"

However, Dane merely said calmly, "Ron, this is just a memory."

Ron froze. A memory?

He glanced at a victim crushed by an overturned vehicle, the other person's warm blood still on his hands.

What kind of memory was so real?

"Painful memories are often the most real."

Dane had unknowingly appeared beside him, his eyes watching Parallax, whose entire body had completely descended upon Coast City.

In this World he constructed, there was no Hal to save Coast City.

In this World, there was no Superman, no Wonder Woman, and no Shazam.

In a World where all superheroes didn't exist, its fate was already sealed.

"No! I don't believe it!"

Ron stood up, his face having transformed into that of the Martian Manhunter.

Dane watched him fly into the sky; he began to confront Parallax.

"A survivor of Mars?"

The monster didn't recognize Martians, but the Little Blue People, who had merged with the monster, were experienced; it saw through the Martian Manhunter's true form at a glance.

It coiled above the city, laughing wildly.

With a wide-open maw, countless yellow fear energies were sucked in.

Seeing this, the Martian Manhunter's eyes glowed red, and two beams of laser light shot out, hitting Parallax's face.

Parallax tilted its enormous head; it didn't dodge, nor could it.

But 99.9% of its massive body was a polymer of yellow energy; the laser beams hitting it caused no pain or itch whatsoever.

"Hahahaha, your power can't hurt me at all!"

Parallax laughed loudly, then exhaled a breath, and a tornado of yellow energy swept the Martian Manhunter away.

At the same time, its tentacles spread out like a membrane, and inside, they protruded outwards as if containing people.

At the protruding points were faces contorted in pain and ferocity, as if Uruk-hai were about to burst through the membrane.

By the time the Martian Manhunter finally managed to stabilize his body, those grotesque faces surged out.

They had no eyes; their entire faces consisted only of a large mouth filled with sharp teeth.

These monsters had slender arms and sharp fingertips, full of aggression.

Dane, standing on the ground, estimated their number to be several thousands.

Parallax released these things as if shaking off a pile of lice from its body.

And the moment those "lice" emerged, they targeted the Martian Manhunter.

"I hate the color of your skin!"

Ron only heard this one sentence before he was engulfed by countless yellow monsters.

He took a deep breath and exhaled, a strong hurricane blowing away the nearest monsters.

But more monsters filled the void, pouncing on him, and soon he was trapped.

His abilities were many and varied: Cyclops, super strength, super speed, super defense, telepathy, possession, shapeshifting, illusion, hypnosis, mental shield, and so on.

But none of these abilities could deliver a decisive blow to completely eliminate Parallax.

With a continuous supply of fear energy, it was almost invincible!

Ron was torn apart by the monsters and fell from the city, the immense kinetic energy directly collapsing the Ferris Enterprise building.

This was probably one of Dane's little mischievous acts.

The main body of the building was destroyed, and it was unclear what started it, but a fire suddenly erupted.

Martian Manhunter, your weakness is even easier to exploit than Superman's.

Dane thought this, and then Parallax also discovered the Martian's weakness; it smelled the fear in his heart.

"You're afraid of Fire? You actually fear Fire!"

Parallax laughed maniacally, and all the monsters clung tightly to Martian Manhunter like psoriasis.

Then they all exploded, and flames, like gangrene, attached themselves to him, instantly causing Ron to lose his sanity.

"No—!"

Ron ran frantically through the ruins in a panic, completely forgetting his abilities.

He forgot that he could actually make the flames ineffective against him; he was like a person drowning in a waist-deep pool.

He could have been saved by simply standing up, but fear made him sink into the pool.

The flames on Ron's body burned more fiercely, and under the influence of fear, he allowed the fire to spread, and also allowed the flames to burn through his skin, leaving him severely wounded.

Seeing the time was ripe, Parallax opened its mouth and inhaled.

The fear in Ron's heart was materialized, mixed with his life essence, and drawn into Parallax's mouth.

In the Real World, Swannwick suddenly opened his eyes.

When he looked up, he found himself half-kneeling on the ground, sweat pouring off him like rain.

"Congratulations, Ron Ronz," Dane said, taking a sip of whiskey from the sofa before continuing.

"You. Died."
