The moment Noah nodded, everything moved at once.
Gunfire exploded across the checkpoint again as Victor's cleanup crews pushed forward through the smoke with renewed desperation. The approaching sirens had them cornered now. They knew it. Everyone knew it.
And cornered men were dangerous.
Matthew immediately pointed toward the extraction truck.
"Get in!"
Nobody moved.
Not Noah.
Not Aiden.
Not even Vinny.
Matthew looked personally offended.
"Why are you all still standing there?"
Aiden pointed at Noah.
"Because this idiot was about to stay behind and blow himself up."
Matthew looked at Noah.
Noah looked away.
That was apparently confirmation enough.
Vinny groaned loudly.
"Oh my God."
Another burst of bullets slammed into the checkpoint barrier.
Concrete exploded outward.
Everyone ducked instinctively.
Leon remained standing.
Because apparently Leon had never experienced fear once in his life.
The cleanup crews were getting closer now.
