Chapter 152 - Before the Sun Rises

Nobody moved.

Rain drummed steadily against the asphalt, hissing as it landed on burning wreckage scattered around the ruined checkpoint. Sirens wailed closer now, blue and red lights flashing faintly beyond the industrial district.

Victor stood beside his black SUV as though none of it concerned him.

Bodies.

Smoke.

Collapsed warehouses.

Destroyed vehicles.

To him, it looked like a disappointing business transaction.

His eyes never left Noah.

"You have his eyes," Victor said quietly.

Noah's expression remained unreadable.

"I was wondering if you'd inherited his weakness too."

Aiden looked between them.

Noah had barely reacted to anything all night—not the explosions, not the gunfire, not the injuries—but those words made something flicker behind his eyes.

Small.

Almost invisible.

Victor noticed.

His smile widened.

"I see you remember."

Matthew kept his gun trained on Victor. "Enough talking."

Victor ignored him completely.
