Chapter 144 - Chapter 144: The Frieza Force

"Who are you?" Obi looked in surprise at the man who had abruptly appeared before them.

"Excuse me, where is this place?" Meruem ignored Obi and addressed Erika instead.

Meruem didn't just have the Rinnegan's abilities—he had absorbed everything of Ōtsutsuki Hamura's as well. He still possessed the Byakugan's penetrative sight, and could freely control the degree of see-through vision.

In theory, he could even use his eyes to engage in certain shameful peeping on women.

But Meruem wasn't that bored. He had simply seen that the pilot in the silver-white suit was a rather pretty girl; a favorable impression made him step in to help.

For the record, the Kapoans looked quite similar to Earthlings, so their features aligned with Meruem's tastes.

Which is to say, this world does run on face value. Good-looking people do tend to win others' favor more easily.

Meruem had already arrived earlier and was watching from the shadows before the battle began, only refraining from showing himself until he understood the situation.

He basically had the picture now. He hadn't expected to run into members of the Frieza Force here.

They weren't the familiar faces, but since they were present, it meant their spaceship was on this planet.

If he could find the Frieza Force ship, he could get his hands on the planetary coordinates they carried.

Those were all good things. If he could obtain the coordinates for the Yardrats' and Metamorans' worlds, that would be ideal.

Instant Transmission, the Fusion Dance—these moves packed punch and were highly practical. Meruem coveted them.

Yardrat Instant Transmission in Dragon Ball was far more useful than the "instantaneous movement" of the Naruto world.

It was a top-tier spatial technique capable of teleporting from planet to planet.

In the original, when Goku needed to reach Namek, he only had to lock onto a ki and—whoosh—he was there.

He even reached the World of the Kais with a single thought. It was nothing like short-range teleportation.

And beyond Instant Transmission, the Yardrats surely had many other marvelous techniques—it was exciting just to think about.

Given how advanced this planet's tech was, they likely had things he needed, too. Those laser cannons already packed a punch. This was Dragon Ball's world, where individual might reigns supreme; for technological weapons to reach that level was no small feat. Most importantly, a timely favor beats a gift on a full stomach—so the Frieza Force had to die.

"This guy… actually dares ignore Lord Obi. Let's see what you really are." Obi tapped the scouter over his eye, aiming it at Meruem.

"Hmph. Just a piece of trash with a power level of 100… I worried for nothing." He sneered at the number on the display.

"Heh-heh. Disappear from my sight, you damned trash." A ball of light gathered in Obi's palm.

"Watch out!" Seeing Obi's movement, Erika reflexively sent a warning through her suit.

A white ki blast streaked toward Meruem, clearly meant to vaporize him.

"Heh-heh. Too weak. A power level of 100… how is that possible!?!" When the blast's shockwave dissipated, Meruem was still standing where he'd been, right before Obi.

"A hundred, is it? Looks like my control over my power still isn't perfect. If I go a step further, you'll probably only detect a single-digit power level." Meruem muttered in a voice only he could hear.

"But let's deal with the matter at hand first. Hey, Frieza Force." He glanced at Obi, who was still in shock not far away.

"Could the scouter be broken?" Obi cast a dubious look at Meruem, then swept the Kapoans around them.

"One thousand, twelve hundred, eight hundred… It's fine. The machine isn't broken, so what's wrong?" Truth be told, though 3,000 was a decent power level, Obi was still bottom-tier in the Frieza Force.

As a low-tier, he relied far too much on the scouter, and had no idea there were beings in the universe who could freely suppress their power.

"Forget it. I only used a little strength just now. Since the machine's acting up, I'll just go all out and kill you directly. Trash—die in despair!" Another ball of light swelled in his hand, larger than before, and he shoved it at Meruem.

"Boring tricks. This ends now." Meruem set his index finger against his thumb, bent it, and flicked toward Obi.

A ki blast—Meruem answered with a ki blast of his own.

Pop! Obi's scouter shattered into fragments.

"Impossible, impossible… that's over ten thousand!" Obi stared at Meruem in terror—and in that terror, he came apart into pieces.

"That flick was ten thousand? I have a rough idea of my power level now." Meruem then swept his gaze over the remaining Frieza grunts and, under their terrified stares, wiped them all out.

What followed was unimportant in comparison. Meruem obtained some of the Frieza Force's planetary coordinates, as well as a good number of scouters.

But he knew he couldn't use the scouters casually; they all had eavesdropping hardware installed—backdoors Frieza had left in to prevent his subordinates' betrayal.

Of course, that was mechanical tech. With the Kapoans' help, stripping out the eavesdropping programs wasn't a big problem. After all, Meruem was now the Kapoans' savior.

That day, the Kapoans held a grand banquet for Meruem. He met Princess Erika. The Great Elder of Kapo hoped Meruem would stay, and dangled the bait of the most beautiful woman on Kapo—Princess Erika—to keep him. They had realized this raid was only a small squad from the enemy's army.

Or rather, they had grasped from the data in Obi's ship just how powerful the invaders who coveted their planet were.

Next time, a Frieza captain or an elite might appear. Those people wouldn't have a mere 3,000 power level like Obi.

Unfortunately for them, Meruem had no interest in their princess. Under their disappointed gazes, he boarded his ship and left Kapo.

He took the Frieza Force's spacecraft and the Kapoans' mech tech with him, too.

Left with little choice, the Kapoans began organizing an evacuation. Much as it pained them, they couldn't let their people be wiped out over this.

A planet can be replaced. If the people all die, then nothing remains.

None of that concerned Meruem. He had what he wanted—the Yardrat coordinates.

"By the way, even with the Kapoans' refit, they said the scouter's upper limit was raised a hundredfold. If the previous cap was 10,000, that makes this one's max a million, right? Why not test the Chimera Ant army's strength first?"

Compared to the Frieza Force, Meruem's Chimera Ant army wasn't much to speak of.

Meruem himself still didn't match Frieza's power, and Frieza's captain Ginyu had 120,000. Meruem had yet to test the likes of Pouf and Youpi. Frieza's grunts all had over 1,000, while the Chimera Ant grunts under Meruem would be doing well to hit a few hundred.

He wondered whether Cooler existed in this world—the movie-only monster on par with a standard Super Saiyan. His armored squad averaged in the hundreds of thousands, able to rival Frieza's base form.

By movie settings, the forces under Frieza's command were nothing compared to Cooler's—whether in number of planets controlled, army size, or overall battle power, Cooler held an absolute edge.

By Dragon Ball's official setting, the Frieza Force controlled seventy percent of the universe's planets, which would mean Cooler—the brother Frieza supposedly had—wouldn't appear in canon. And officially, although it's called the Frieza race, not all of them possess such high power.

Frieza's father, King Cold, was a power-level mutation, similar to the Saiyans' Legendary Super Saiyan, Broly. Frieza and Cold were "super Friezas" among their race. Most importantly, Frieza was produced asexually by King Cold, unlike the other members of the race.

After Battle of Gods, Frieza's setting was tweaked again.

He was born with a power level of 120 million, so he had no need to train. With a bit of training, he could reach the realm of gods.

If the Frieza in Meruem's world was that top genius Frieza, Meruem would have only one chance to kill him.

If he failed, he would face a terrifying opponent who could reach godhood in just four months.

If it was the Z-era Frieza, that would be better—only a 120-million opponent. After all, in Z the Supreme Kai said a foe like Frieza could be killed with ease.
