The sky was dark, rain pouring down in heavy sheets when Taeryn stepped into the parking lot. Rihan was already in the passenger seat, the driver's side deliberately left empty for him.
Taeryn slid into the car quietly and glanced at Rihan. He looked calm... too calm. Serene in a way that made Taeryn uneasy.
"Are you okay?" Taeryn asked.
Rihan offered a faint smile. "Let's just go home."
Taeryn started the engine and pulled out of the lot. Soon, they were on the expressway, rain hammering against the windshield. Taeryn stole glances at Rihan, tension coiling tighter in his chest until Rihan placed a hand on his thigh and squeezed.
"I'm fine, bunny," he said softly. "I'm just… really angry about this case. It's sick. Even for me."
Disgust flickered across his face, the words sounding like they surprised even him.
Taeryn exhaled slowly. "It'll be over soon. I promise."
Rihan turned to him, smiling in a way that made his heart skip. "I know. And thank you. Really."
