Matthew Atkinson & Natalie Russell
Second Layer of the Supernatural Realm
Matthew was aware that he might face retaliation.
After all, those freshmen students were other people's children!
But if he were to find himself in the same situation again, Matthew certainly would still kill all those freshmen students!
It wasn't him who started the trouble.
Those people came to his door wanting to kill him and Natalie, so why couldn't he fight back?
His actions constituted legitimate self-defense even at Blue Marble.
And there was no need even to mention that in the Supernatural Realm, where survival of the fittest was the norm.
Matthew was simply curious about what kind of underhanded tricks the other party could use with the "Supernatural Realm Covenant" in hand.
"Dirty tricks?" Matthew asked, "What kind of dirty tricks?"
Natalie thought for a moment and said, "A celebrity like Ethan Smith is under a lot of scrutiny. He certainly won't come to deal with us personally, and our top experts won't allow him to cause trouble here either."
"The most likely scenario is that he will instruct some superhuman assassins, or simply issue an anonymous bounty on the dark web to put a reward on us. As long as the reward is high enough, people will naturally be tempted."
Upon hearing this, Matthew frowned slightly.
He had also heard of some of the superhuman assassin organizations in this world, some of which had top-tier assassins who were feared by all.
His current strength was enough to dominate among the freshmen students, but he wouldn't be considered an expert among the superhumans.
If those assassins come, it would indeed be a bit troublesome.
"Matthew, after we get back, why don't you move back to the campus dorm to live temporarily?"
Natalie suggested. "Every year after the freshmen students pass the second layer of the supernatural realm, some disputes will arise. In order to deal with this situation and protect the safety of the students, all the supernatural universities will hire some powerful people to act as 'protectors'."
"Therefore, staying on campus is the safest place, and those assassins wouldn't dare to enter the school to carry out an assassination directly."
That was a great suggestion.
However, returning to the campus dormitory was a hassle.
His sunbathing equipment was so big that it couldn't even fit through the dormitory door, and the campus certainly wouldn't allow him to modify the dormitory room.
Then he would still need to go outside to receive his daily dose of artificial sunlight.
When it came to asking the university to privatize the campus dormitory room, Matthew didn't yet have that much influence.
If he revealed the secret of the Kryptonian Bloodline and showed his power, he could demand certain things from the university, but in that case, the danger he would be in would be much greater than it is now.
"I'm fine, it's mainly you who's in the focus," Matthew said. "Natalie, I think that even if Magneto wants revenge, his primary target will definitely be you. I'm just a sidekick at most... So, you are the one who needs to be careful."
That was for sure.
After all, in everyone's mind, the Kryptonian Bloodline was a useless ability. Even though Matthew obtained a lot of attribute points in the first layer of the supernatural realm, he still could not hunt down more than 40 freshmen students with a useless ability.
Nobody would believe he could do that right now.
Only a genius like Natalie could have done it.
"I know, and I don't usually leave the campus anyway. I spend a large part of my time training on campus."
Natalie suddenly asked, "Matthew, do you remember when I offered you to be my teammate? Back then, you didn't immediately accept my offer; instead, you set some conditions and proposed a deal."
"You were going to help me achieve successes in the Supernatural Realm that no one else had achieved, and in return, I would take credit for those successes. Was your only reason for wanting to be my teammate back then to use me as a shield?"
"Well…"
That was a great question! As expected, nothing could be hidden from this girl.
Matthew hesitated for a moment, then decided it was better to tell the truth.
Because the answer to this question was too obvious!
Trying to deceive her would be treating Natalie like a fool.
"Initially, I did have that idea—to give you all the credit and fame, and I'd stay behind the scenes because I didn't want to expose the secret and power of my Kryptonian Bloodline for the time being. But I just didn't expect to encounter something like this in the second layer of the supernatural realm… now, because of me, you will be targeted."
Natalie nodded. She could understand Matthew's thoughts.
Suddenly, the girl smiled and said, "So, I have to thank the Supernatural Realm's grading function. If it weren't for it, I wouldn't be able to form a team with you."
Matthew gave an awkward laugh.
If the Supernatural Realm didn't have a grading function, he could have truly gone solo with his previous mindset.
But with his current mindset... Overcoming challenges with a beautiful girl like Natalie by his side was definitely better than going solo.
"Those were my thoughts back then. If I could go back in time with my current mindset, whether or not there was a grading function, I would sleep outside your door if necessary to get you to accept me as your teammate. The Supernatural Realm seems like a much better place when I am with you, Nat."
After Matthew's words, Natalie's face turned red like a tomato.
Was this considered a confession? Or should the previous instances where he gave the supernatural item to her as a token of love be regarded as a confession, and what he said now be considered a compliment?
Did Natalie need to compliment him back?
Natalie's mind suddenly seemed to malfunction...
[Please note: You will be teleported back in 30 seconds, 29, 28, 27...]
At this moment, this prompt appeared in both of their left eyes and saved Natalie.
Upon seeing the notification, the two stood up and prepared to return.
If they remained seated, they would be sitting on the ground after being teleported back...
Thirty seconds later, all the freshmen students in the second layer of the supernatural realm disappeared and returned to Blue Marble.
...
Blue Marble.
Because of the time difference.
It was currently the dead of night in the USA.
Inside a vast and luxurious estate, the renowned Ethan Smith sat on a sofa, sipping fine wine.
Besides him, there were several middle-aged couples nearby, drinking and chatting about interesting things, their words all aimed at ingratiating themselves with Ethan.
These middle-aged couples were the parents of freshmen students.
Their children were teammates with Mr. Ethan's daughter, which was why they were eligible to be invited to the Smith Estate to wait for their children's return with the renowned Ethan Smith.
Time passed second by second.
A middle-aged man with a receding hairline glanced at the clock on the wall and suddenly reminded them, "Time is almost up."
Upon hearing this, the ladies set down their wine glasses, straightened their attire, and sat up, revealing their dignified, noble demeanor.
The same applied to men.
Only Mr. Ethan smiled and made no move.
The next moment, on the empty carpet in front of everyone, a figure appeared out of thin air.
The freshmen students, their children, were back. Well… they should be back. However, only one person returned!
Everyone's expression changed drastically!
They were all high-ranking elites of the States and were extremely clear about the rules of the Supernatural Realm.
If someone was not teleported back by the appointed time, it meant that something unexpected had happened in the Supernatural Realm, and that person would never be able to return.
"My child!" A woman was the first to lose her temper, collapsing to the ground and wailing loudly.
Other middle-aged men and women also looked pained and found it hard to accept the reality.
Among the crowd, only one couple showed no signs of grief because their child came back alive.
However, the couple's faces showed no joy but instead were filled with panic.
They knew that although their child had returned, the current situation meant nothing good would come of it.
-Crack, crack, bang!
It was the expensive crystal glass in Ethan's hand that he crushed, spilling all the red wine inside onto Ethan's expensive clothes.
But Ethan couldn't care less about that.
At this moment, Mr. Ethan had lost all his previous composure and air of authority.
His face was ashen, gloomy, and twisted, and his expression was terrifying.
"Tell me! What happened in the Supernatural Realm? Where is my daughter?" Ethan Smith asked.
His tone was full of anger.
The only young man who returned alive was startled by Ethan's voice.
At this moment, he realized that his teammates, including Miss Smith, had all remained in the Supernatural Realm.
This showed that Miss Smith's plan has completely failed!
"I'm very sorry, Mr. Smith, Miss Dale ordered me to wait far away…"
The young man stammered as he recounted what had happened.
Dale Smith was quite shrewd.
She feared her plan would fail, or even that she would lose her life, and no one was there to pass a message to her father.
So she deliberately left one teammate behind and told him to hide somewhere far away.
Unexpectedly, this precaution actually came in handy for her.
...
After hearing the young man's explanation, everyone finally understood what their children had done in the supernatural world.
However, when they heard that their children had joined forces with a large group to kill the genius girl from the United Kingdom to plunder her mission progress, not one of them felt that their children had done anything wrong.
It was as if Natalie should just obediently stretch out her neck and let their children hunt her down.
Ethan himself shared this view.
"You mean, Dale organized more than forty people to ambush and kill those two freshmen, but not only did they fail, they were all wiped out, with not a single survivor?"
Ethan's tone remained icy, but he looked like a volcano was about to erupt.
However, his face showed a hint of disbelief.
The young boy said tremblingly, "Mr. Smith, I swear I'm telling the truth. Miss Dale told me to stay far away, so I don't know what happened in that place, or whether any of the forty-odd members who participated in the attack survived."
"Really? Then what's the point of your living?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Ethan twitched his finger, and all the metal cutlery on the table next to him flew over, instantly turning the young man into a porcupine.
The young man stared wide-eyed, and before he could even scream, he died!
Blood stained the expensive carpet.
This scene immediately terrified many people.
"No! My child!!" The young man's mother screamed and tried to rush over.
But her husband held her tightly.
Ethan noticed the resentment in the man's eyes and asked coldly, "Mr. Campbell, do you have any objections to what I did?"
At this moment, Ethan's face was filled with furious rage.
He wouldn't mind killing two more people to vent his anger!
Upon hearing this, the man immediately lowered his head. "It was Kyle's dereliction of duty that he failed to protect Miss Dale. I have no objection to your handling of the matter."
From beginning to end, he didn't even dare to glance at Ethan, appearing extremely cowardly.
Ethan, however, was quite impressed with Campbell.
As far as he knew, Campbell only had this one son.
To witness his only son die tragically before his eyes and still be able to endure it—this Mr. Campbell was truly a ruthless man.
