Lord Green was busy; after seeing off the worried Scholar Kemon, he immediately summoned over a dozen impoverished knightly families from the Vale.
Like the other families who came to pledge allegiance, they seemed to have brought along... any unmarried daughters of outstanding beauty.
Lord Green estimated that the youngest among them looked to be only eleven or twelve years old.
The liege lord of the Vale, disregarding all else, was infatuated with the daughter of a certain Vale Noble? What if... perhaps... he had a special, unknown hobby?
Lord Green, seated on his high throne, stopped his thoughts. His voice echoed through the hall: "Rise, and welcome."
A faint smile played on Green's face. As a ruler, he needed more patience. After all, he and they... were not yet acquainted. At this stage... Lord Green was willing to give them more opportunities.
Then came: oaths, rewards, banquets... it was like a repeat of yesterday's scene, only the participants had changed, and more and more Vale Nobles joined the banquet.
...
Early the next morning, a raven carrying King Joffrey's letter arrived at the Crow's Nest in the Eyrie.
In the study, Green took the letter from Scholar Erlin and began to read it. The content was still King Joffrey urging him to send his prisoners of war to King's Landing as soon as possible.
Rumor had it that on the day Duke Tywin entered King's Landing as a savior, he rode his horse directly into the Throne Room, and his horse then deposited a pile of dung under the Iron Throne, in full view of everyone.
It was said that a moved King Joffrey had to walk around the pile of dung to embrace his grandfather and called Duke Tywin the savior of King's Landing.
Afterward, King Joffrey sincerely requested his grandfather, Tywin Lannister, to govern the Seven Kingdoms on his behalf... Once Duke Tywin accepted the King's request, Joffrey Baratheon personally placed the Hand of the King's chain around his neck.
Green guessed that King Joffrey, at the time, was too afraid of Duke Tywin's authority to react, but later, he must have grown increasingly angry, feeling that the King's dignity had been "trampled" in front of everyone.
Now, he needed to use the prisoners from the Vale to reassert the King's dignity in front of everyone, including Tywin Lannister, who did not respect him as King.
Green's fingers moved. The letter consisted of two pages. Seeing the handwriting on the second page, he raised an eyebrow slightly. It was a personal letter from Grand Maester Pycelle.
He wrote in the letter: House Tyrell declared in the Throne Room... that although Margaery had married Renly Baratheon, Renly went to the battlefield on their wedding night and they did not consummate the marriage, so she was still a virgin... Coupled with House Tyrell's contributions, King Joffrey had announced Margaery Tyrell as his fiancée, the future Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, in front of the nobles.
Maester Pycelle hinted in the letter that Queen Cersei was very displeased with Margaery Tyrell becoming her son's fiancée.
Then, he wrote in the letter... that according to the merits of the Battle of King's Landing, on the day Duke Tywin entered the Throne Room, over six hundred people were knighted. He specifically pointed out that the severely wounded Lancel Lannister was granted the title of Count of Darry.
[Darry is the seat of House Darry in the Riverlands, now occupied by the Lannister Army. It is located at the confluence of the Kings Road and the Trident River at Lord Harroway's Town. Although ancient, the castle is quite small.]
And then... the matter of Tyrion Lannister being sent to Riverrun as the Master of Coin and envoy of the Red Keep. Duke Tywin's task for him was to safely bring Jaime Lannister back to King's Landing with a reasonable "ransom."
...
After reading the letter, Green tapped the armrest of his chair with his fingers. After a moment, he tossed Pycelle's letter into a nearby brazier.
Then, he pulled out a blank piece of parchment, picked up a quill, dipped it in ink, and said, "Scholar Erlin, please tell Scholar Kemon on my behalf that he has two extra months to treat Lord Arryn."
As the quill moved, he wrote and said, "Tell him this is a grace just sent by His Majesty the King. Tell him to cherish it."
"Yes, my lord." Scholar Erlin left the study.
Shushushushu... Green was writing the mobilization order for the Crab Claw Peninsula. Although the northern regions of the Vale were not yet under his rule, the conquest of maidenpool in the Riverlands needed to be arranged as soon as possible; this was another move in the game of power.
After finishing the mobilization order, he pulled out a new blank piece of parchment... Lord Green wrote several letters throughout the morning.
