Chapter 293 - Chapter 293 What great achievements did King Joffrey have?

One letter was addressed to: The Eternal Hand of the King, Duke Tywin Lannister. In Green's letter, he simply congratulated Duke Tywin on his appointment at the beginning, and then... extensively praised King Joffrey's great achievements, as well as King Joffrey's outstanding wisdom, courage, and knightly spirit.

What great achievements did King Joffrey have? Firstly, despite being surrounded by powerful enemies, he decisively and forcefully sent troops to conquer the Vale, which was displeased with Joffrey's rule of the Iron Throne. Then there was the defense of King's Landing... Green attributed the outcome of this battle in his letter to... the victory brought by King Joffrey's wisdom and courage.

Green "transferred" the merits of Duke Tywin's campaign in the Riverlands and Tyrion's preparations within King's Landing to King Joffrey.

Since the great contributor Tyrion had already been "expelled" by Duke Tywin, this was very reasonable.

This letter needed to be escorted by specialized soldiers, because in addition to the letter, there was also an "appetizer" demonstrating King Joffrey's military achievements—Petyr's head.

As for the "open letter" to Duke Tywin, it would, along with the "appetizer," be sent to King Joffrey first due to an oversight... This was the task of Leyton, the little steward (he is now in King's Landing, Chapter 246).

Well, let's happily snatch each other's peaches.

...

Another letter was addressed to: The Artist of War, Duke Mace Tyrell. In the letter, Green briefly discussed his views on the future battle situation. He hoped that if there was a suitable opportunity... he would be willing to raise 30,000 troops to assist Duke Mace in breaking Riverrun, contributing to ending the war for the kingdom. Then, he briefly mentioned his views on the political landscape of the Riverlands, feeling that it was very likely a place where peace talks were impossible. Afterward... he also expressed some concerns about the outstanding combat strength of the Northern soldiers.

Then, Green once again congratulated Margaery Tyrell on the "certainty" of becoming the future Queen of the Seven Kingdoms.

Finally, he told Duke Mace that a Vale Noble had presented him with a precious black walnut wood in the shape of a hand, with the palm serving as the seat and the fingers as the backrest... very suitable for carving into a chair. Green stated that he had arranged for the best carpenters in the Vale to work on it, and once completed, it would be sent to Duke Mace as a congratulatory gift for the Golden Rose "blooming" in King's Landing.

...

The next letter... its destination was Maegors Holdfast in the Red Keep, and the recipient was Queen Cersei Lannister. Besides the usual greetings, the main content of the letter was the results of the Vale campaign, and as usual... his concern for Queen Cersei's safety, with the concluding remark: the Crab Claw Peninsula and the Vale in his hands were at Queen Cersei Lannister's disposal at any time, and his supreme glory would be to serve her.

...

Green stood on the balcony of the Eyrie. In the distance, the Vale's surrounding mountains and undulating peaks were exceptionally spectacular.

Scholar Erlin's aged voice sounded behind him: "Lord Green, the ravens have been arranged."

"Thank you, Scholar Erlin."

After a pause, Green turned and stepped into the room. He was about to meet with the Sellsword leaders of the Vale, who would be the main force for besieging the northern cities of the Vale.

Lord Green intended to use glittering gold dragons to wear down another military organization in the Vale—the various Sellsword companies of the Vale.

This required "micromanagement" from Lord Green, but it had to be done, because the Vale's military strength only needed one: the Cleber Legion.

...

...

Amidst the low roar of the sea wind, waves crashed against the rocks beneath Dragonstone, creating huge white foam.

Leading to the central tower of Dragonstone, the Stone Drum Tower, was an elevated stone arch bridge.

The sea wind constantly passed through the arches supporting the bridge's roof. Davos Seaworth, walking on the bridge, could smell the sea, a "smell" that granted him strength.

No sooner had Count Davos reached the gate of the Stone Drum Tower than Ser Axell's figure suddenly appeared, blocking his path.

Ser Axell Florent was a member of House Florent. He was the brother of Lord Alliser Florent of Brightwater Keep, and the uncle of Selyse, Stannis's wife. His position was acting Castellan of Dragonstone.

Count Davos stopped and observed the man opposite him. Ser Axell, like the Queen, had the prominent ears of the Florent family, with thick hair growing from his ears and nostrils, and tufts of hair sprouting from beneath his double chin.

Ser Axell had a broad nose and protruding brows, and his closely set eyes were full of hostility.

Prime Minister Davos nodded slightly and said, "Ser Axell."

Ser Axell was also observing Davos. Seeing the other man address him first, he snorted coldly and said, "Davos, it is you, the unqualified Prime Minister, who brought misfortune to His Majesty the King. It is you... you are not a follower of the Lord of Light. It is you who brought him defeat!"

Count Davos's brow furrowed slightly. He said, "Ser Axell, King Stannis wishes to see me."

Count Davos tried to walk around him, but Ser Axell blocked his path again.

"Rhllor grants me abilities like Lady Melisandre. I can foresee the future in the sacred fire. I once foresaw Stannis Baratheon sitting on the Iron Throne in the sacred fire, but it was ruined because you snatched my position as Prime Minister. You are a sinner, a smuggler."

Count Davos did not want to bother with the madman in front of him: "King Stannis dislikes waiting."

Ser Axell did not back down: "I have already foreseen the path to take in the sacred fire. To achieve these things, His Majesty the King must make me his Hand of the King. And you, when you see His Majesty the King, will advise him thus, and voluntarily resign from the position of Prime Minister."

Count Davos frowned and said, "I only obey King Stannis's orders, Ser Florent."

"Queen Selyse is urging His Majesty the King to appoint me as Hand of the King..."

Ser Axell stared at Davos and continued, "Even your old friend, Salladhor Saan, says so. He and I planned... but His Majesty the King refused to act. Failure, like a black worm in the soul, gnaws at his heart. Loyal people should act together. If you are as loyal as you claim... then tell His Majesty the King that I am his only suitable Prime Minister. If you do so, when we'set sail,' I promise you a new ship."

"A new ship? You mean..."

Davos raised an eyebrow and said, "Those ships abandoned at Mermaid Port?"

Ser Axell first warned, "Let me tell you, I do not wish... His Majesty the King to hear about this from you."

Then, he threatened, "Smuggler, I have been acting Castellan of Dragonstone for a long time. Please remember... the guards here are all my men. Without His Majesty the King's permission, I may not be able to burn you, but who says you won't unfortunately fall from the tower, tonight or tomorrow?"

Davos shrugged and said, "I admit, I don't want to fall from here."

Ser Axell stepped aside, smirking, "His Majesty is waiting for us. Don't keep him waiting; you know he dislikes waiting."

...

In the Map Room at the top of the Stone Drum Tower, outside was the night sky filled with stars, and here one could hear the wind and faint sounds of waves.

Stannis Baratheon stood behind a large map table. An iron brazier stood beside him, its coals glowing orange-red.

Stannis wore a grey wool overcoat, a dark red cloak, and a plain black leather belt at his waist, from which hung a longsword and a dagger. A flame-shaped red-gold crown rested on his head.

His closely shaven beard was streaked with grey hair, and his body... with every movement, his bones were clearly visible moving beneath his skin, as if spears might protrude... even the crown on his head seemed too large.

His eyes seemed to be sunken blue hollows, and the shape of his skull could be seen beneath his facial skin.

"Your Majesty." Count Davos and Ser Axell bowed to King Stannis.

King Stannis looked at Count Davos, and a faint smile touched his lips. He said, "My Prime Minister, you always speak the truth. I need to hear your counsel."

With his hands behind his back, he said, "Tell me honestly, what is the punishment for treason, my Prime Minister?"

The punishment for treason? This question hung in the air. Davos wondered... King Stannis had asked him the same question before.

Count Davos respectfully replied, "Death, the punishment is death, King Stannis."

King Stannis's voice was filled with anger: "A man of the Florent family, someone... suggested acknowledging the Iron Throne of the bastard, he wants to sell my rights for his own power, and even marry my only child to that bastard!"

Count Davos was silent for a moment. He glanced at the silent Ser Axell and respectfully advised, "King Stannis, Count Florent is not your traitor. Perhaps... you can consider it counsel you do not like."

Ser Axell's voice sounded: "Your Majesty, I beg you, give me a chance to prove myself. Not all of the Florent family are so weak!"
