Chapter 9 - Chapter 8: A Child, A Woman, Or A Monster

Light tapped Helen on her shoulder to get her attention, "Helen, where did you get that dart?"

Helen spun around, dart still in hand now aimed at Light's heart. Under normal circumstances, Light would never waver, but this wasn't normal. The Helen before him is one dominated by a childish personality. Nothing is certain.

"I got this from my Spacecial Bracelet. I have all kinds of weapons here, wanna see?"

"Hold on, Helen. Before you do that, can you put that away?" Light was calm on the outside, but inward, he was concerned. For that dart wasn't any mere dart. It was and is an instant kill weapon ignoring any and all forms of resistance. One of many gifts and trinkets Teleute gave Helen when she was just a child.

Death in a niddel.

Helen looked at her hand and stared back at Light before realising what was going on. "Sorry about that," she turned back to the window, "I spotted a bird I'd never seen before and wanted to hunt it."

"But haven't you seen a crow before?"

"Your eyes are bad. Look there," she pointed at the vast open space, "see that gigantic bird."

Light had to look again to see what Helen was aiming at. Then he saw, it was indeed a huge bird. However really surprised him was the distance of the bird from the outermost wall of Melt to where it lay, which was approximately three hundred thousand miles away. Not measuring the distance between the Cyritus Hotel where she stood, and the innermost wall.

Helen took her stance, waiting for the right moment. Then she flung the dart straight at her target. The air pressure caused the entire building to 'only' quake a little. Cyritus Hotel, all other hotels, and inns were built with the consideration of the ridiculous powerhouses that roam the world.

"This is going to take a while before it hits. It seems I've gotten rustic," Helen said with a huge grin on her face. Seconds began to pass, as Helen sat waiting, but impatience and restlessness began to take hold. Her body started shivering from inactivity, and her eyes became heavy from just staring. For fifteen whole seconds, her body swayed left and right, back and forth, before strike. "Yes, yes, yes," she shouted out in joy, taking Light's arms and jumping with him. She then stretched out her arm and uttered "Retreat."

'Wow, striking within fifteen seconds.' Light thought, 'Even ignoring the distance between Cyritus Hotel to the Southwestern innermost and outermost walls of Melt, the high-rise buildings, and the distance between the outermost wall and the bird, the dart should've never hit its mark. Due to its trajectory being way off, but it did hit. I see it now Alwat, this girl is a true hunter.'

The dart materialised in Helen's hand with the bird, "Now that I look at it," Helen examined the giant bird closely, "It looks like a cross between a Reitus Vulture and an Aivey Eagle. But I've still never seen one before."

'What's a Reitus Vulture and an Aivey Eagle?'Light was confused hearing those avian species, as he had never heard of them before, or even existed in the current era.

'You fool,' Alwat's voice came again, 'don't you have my memories. Those are from my era.'

'Look here, your memories are not the only ones I have, can't go over every fine detail. And aren't you being quite active today?' Alwat went quiet, 'That's better.'

"That's a Roc."

Helen raised the Roc closer, stared at it and back at Light, "Huh. I like a rock, but it's a bird."

"No it's not. Those two are completely different things."

"How?"

"One is a, ehm, forget about it, they're not important," Light sighed then continued, "Even though a Roc looks like a cross between those two species, it has nothing to do with them, and originates from a different species."

"Woh. You're soo smart."

"Smart, huh. Yeah, I am." 'A roc at this time. It seems this era's advancement in technology isn't going to make it. Eh, not my problem.' "Helen let's get back on track."

"Right, right, right," she tossed the roc with the dart still lodged in its neck aside. "He is Austin Martin, from the Restia Republic Nation, the Minister of Finance and State Security. He staged a failed coup, ran to Melt with his family, where they have Immunity."

"You were listening," she nodded in agreement, her face full of pompous pride. "Anyways, the Martin family, he, his three wives, and twelve children are on Red Alert. Highly Dangerous Criminal Masterminds. Some of their crimes were traffi...." Light paused for a moment before resuming, retracking his statement, "The Martin family are very bad people. They did every single bad thing Cyrius said was bad."

"Really, they are that bad?"

"Really, they are."

"Really, really?"

"Really, really."

"Really, really, really?" Helen's eyes were now sparkling with purple stars.

"Yeah, really, really really."

Helen shifted her spatial bracelet, realizing a brilliant light from it as several racks of weapon displays filled the room. "Which one should I use? There are sooo many," she said, examining them.

"Why don't we use the dart? It has a sure hit factor."

"No," she said casually, while tossing one weapon after the other.

"Why?"

"It would be quite easy, and I have a week before I return, and it's the day of the auction. Gotta enjoy my time well."

"You were aware."

"I may be present here, but I well know this isn't my time. I have to thank Cyrius for taking care of Titan. That guy is incredibly perceptive." Light remained silent in response. Helen continued to look around until her gaze fell on an empty rack; that's when her mood began to shift. "Where are my Blades of Justice, Light?" she asked, her voice dull but still retaining a child's tone.

Light knew better than to be deceived by her childish voice, so he took a few steps back to create some distance. The question came again, but this time the childlike tone had vanished. It was replaced by something cold, unfeeling, and mechanical: "Light, where are the Blades of Justice?"

"I knew you weren't asleep," Light said, continuing to increase the distance between them.

"Where are the Blades of Justice?" She turned her head to face Light, her eyes filled with rage, but beneath that anger lay sorrow and pain.

"Calm down," he replied, still widening the gap.

The humidity temperature in the room began to fall as sheets of ice grew and spread across the room.

'Is this magic?' Light thought, 'No, I don't sense any magical power from her, and it's not the spirits or nature energy. What am I even thinking, Avatars abandons everything in order to use Divine Force. Then again, what is it?' Light had increased the distance considerably. While Helen stood there, muttering repeatedly.

'Light,' Ulycs' voice resounded in Light's head, 'do you see that silver mace on her right?'

'What has that got to do with what's going on?'

'That mace was once mine. Its power reacts in conjunction with the wielder's emotions and state of mind. The more emotional the wielder gets, the greater the influence. Within a few seconds, Helen is going to enter a berserk state. That's your window to act.'

'How's that so?' Light questioned.

'Just listen,' Ulycs continued, 'Helen isn't the owner of the mace, just a wielder. Meaning, she doesn't have control over it, especially in this state. When she's full, she goes berserk, and she'll lose all forms of cognitive reasoning, and in that moment, the temperature will drop to Absolute Zero. That's your opportunity. She's going to rush at you, and you just have to duck her first strike. Immobilise her, and imprint your Will onto the mace.'

'And if I can't duck?'

'You be watching from another's eyes, just like us.'

'Okay!' Light hardened his resolve, 'this took a serious turn real sharp.'

Helen did as Ulycs had predicted.

She completely turned her body to face Light, "Where are the BLADES OF JUSTICE?" She asked again, her hand now gripping the mace, "Where are THE BLADES OF JUSTICE?" Then a final time, "WHERE ARE THE BLADES OF JUSTICE?" Her raw emotion poured into the mace, causing the room temperature to drop to Absolute Zero.

Helen rushed in to attack.

She swung the mace wide, creating an arc and shooting out ice spears. But Light was prepared. He moved his left leg forward, shifting his weight. His left arm, outstretched for protection, and his right, retracted, poised to strike with a Palm attack.

However, when the berserk Helen was inches away from Light, he slipped.

With the temperature dropping to zero, Light's divine aura was wrapped around him. Preventing his mortal body from turning into an ice block. Coincidentally, the surface of the ice where he stood had become slippery due to his aura. When he placed all his weight on his right leg to propel forward, he slipped and rolled, managing to evade the strike. He then twisted his body, when he was right beneath Helen. Kicking her jaw and chin, sending her flying. But the kick didn't just send her flying, within seconds of kicking Helen, Light sent an electric pulse through Helen's body. This caused her to be momentarily disoriented and let go of the mace.

Light immediately caught the mace and imprinted his Will onto it, but the ice wasn't disappearing, and Helen was still in her berserk state.

Helen, determined not to give up, summoned two axes into her hands as she plummeted.

"What's going on, Ulycs? Why is she still in that state?"

'Ulycs, tell him what to do,' a new voice came through. 'Those axes are the Avenger's Cleaver and the Executioner, weapons of the Avenger's Path. They predate all, even the Third Generation Gods.'

'I've heard stories,' Ulycs replied, 'but I thought they were just folktales. I didn't know the Avenger's Path was real. So the Revenger's Path is also real?'

"Hey guy, I would really love to know about the Avenger and Revenger's Paths," Light shouted, "but this is not the time for that."

'Turn the hilt of the mace anticlockwise just once, and shout—'

Light followed the instructions, turned the hilt, and shouted, "SECOND CHANCE!"

A brilliant white light spread from the mace across the room, enveloping all of Melt and all the worlds beyond.
