Chapter 976 - The First Objective

The golden energy beam that had enveloped us on the twenty-fifth floor dissolved into a shower of shining particles as soon as our feet touched the firm ground of the Isolated Lands. The abrupt spatial transition caused the cold, pure air of the outside world to invade our lungs all at once, instantly clearing away any remnants of the purplish miasma that had suffocated us over the past few weeks.

Before us, the immense stone needle of the Demon King rose toward the heavens, but now, as we looked at that monumental structure that surpassed the clouds, it no longer seemed like an insurmountable enigma.

The researcher adventurer, who maintained constant watch beside the scientific base camp at the entrance to the tower, stood up startled upon witnessing the glow of the return portal. He ran toward us, his eyes wide with surprise and hope when he saw that the entire squad had returned without a single casualty or serious injury.

"Takumi! You... you managed to come back on your own?" he asked, his voice choked with emotion as he observed our calm expressions. "The checkpoint rune... did the dimensional anchoring system really work?"

"It worked perfectly," I replied, offering him a firm nod while adjusting the strap of my travel backpack. "The twenty-fifth floor is marked in our souls. We established a direct and safe channel. From now on, any incursion we make will begin directly from that resting point."

The news of our achievement spread like wildfire through the military camps surrounding the Isolated Lands. Within a few hours, we were escorted under heavy security to the capital of the human kingdom, where the Alliance's council of leaders was anxiously awaiting any report coming from the mysterious structure.

The great castle hall was filled with political representatives and military commanders from all the allied races. The King of Humans, the Elven King, and the ambassadors of the dwarves and dragons maintained tense expressions, divided between the exhaustive reports of the bloody battles taking place on the northern front and the enigmatic silence surrounding our special mission in the tower.

When I entered the conference hall accompanied by Liriel, Scarlet, and the rest of our group, silence spread imposing itself throughout the room.

"Hero Takumi," pronounced the King of Humans, leaning forward on his golden throne with a look filled with expectation. "Our armies in the north are containing the demonic advance with great effort, but the pressure on our supply lines is immense. What news do you bring from the needle of the Isolated Lands? Is there any hope of disarming that structure before our continental defense collapses?"

We approached the large tactical map table in the center of the hall. With a calm gesture, Liriel's assistant stepped forward and spread the new scrolls we had mapped during our ascent across the wood, revealing the mana flow patterns, the boundaries of each biome, and the exact locations of the mystical resting zones we had conquered.

"The tower is not invincible," I began to explain, keeping my voice firm and clear so that everyone present could absorb every word with absolute clarity. "We overcame the first twenty-five floors and defeated the Silicon Colossus that blocked the progression of high-ranked adventurers. Most importantly: we activated the first permanent checkpoint anchor. This means that the tower can no longer force us to restart the challenge from zero. We broke the main attrition rule that the creator had established to consume us."

A murmur of astonishment and immediate relief passed through the row of generals and advisors. For an Alliance that had been fighting a war of physical and psychological attrition against seemingly infinite forces, knowing that we had gained a definitive strategic advantage within the enemy's own base was like a breath of new life into their worn-down hopes.

"This is an unprecedented military achievement," declared the Elven King, observing the geometric details of the scrolls with deep intellectual admiration. "You managed to decipher the spatial architecture of the Demon King in record time. This knowledge completely changes our defensive perspective."

"Yes, it does," I agreed, crossing my arms and observing the map of the continent where the allied forces were resisting bravely. "While the new commander leads the northern front with mastery and keeps the demonic armies occupied on the cold plains, we will continue to focus all our resources on the vertical ascent. The tower is the true heart of the enemy infrastructure. If we can reach the top and destroy the central mana core, the entire demonic invasion of the continent will lose its energy source and collapse definitively."

The clarity of our objective brought a profound sense of purpose and inner peace to everyone in the great hall. The war council, previously marked by tense debates and grim predictions, transformed into a logistical planning session focused on providing total support to our exploration squad for the next phase of the campaign.

Later, at the end of the day, I withdrew from the administrative meetings and walked to the stone balcony overlooking the castle gardens. The sun was setting on the horizon, painting the kingdom's sky with warm shades of orange and gold that seemed like a peaceful contrast to the artificial darkness of the tower.

As I observed that serene landscape, I felt light and familiar footsteps approaching from behind me. Liriel and Scarlet joined me at the stone balustrade, sharing that moment of silence beneath the evening light.

"It's hard to believe that just a few hours ago we were fighting crystal monsters and breathing corrosive mana," Scarlet commented, resting her arms on the railing and letting the wind gently move her red hair. "The world out here seems so detached from that madness."

"But it is precisely to preserve this peace that we chose to enter that place," Liriel replied with a serene expression filled with spiritual sweetness. "On this journey of ours, seeing that victory has brought new hope to all these people makes every moment of difficulty we faced during the ascent worthwhile."

My companions' words echoed deeply within me. I knew that the ascent from the twenty-fifth floor would be immensely more complex, with even more hostile biomes and mana suppression rules that would test the limits of our physical adaptability. But as I looked at the two beside me, and thought about our entire group resting at the mansion and preparing for the next cycle of battles, I realized that we had already overcome the greatest obstacle of all: the fear of the unknown.

We had transformed that labyrinth of despair into a path of overcoming and shared growth. The Demon King believed that his complex system of trials would isolate and destroy us, but he had merely given us the perfect opportunity to prove that our collective strength was the most resilient barrier in that world.

"Our next expedition will be much deeper," I commented, turning my eyes toward the distant horizon where the dark silhouette of the needle could still be seen against the last lights of the day. "But now we know the mechanisms of that place, and we have the right strategy to face whatever it puts in our path."

"We will be ready, Takumi," Scarlet stated with a smile filled with indomitable determination.

"No matter how high the top is, we will reach it together," Liriel completed, gently placing her hand over mine.

With our first exploration expedition completely consolidated and our checkpoint strategy validated before the entire Alliance, I felt a wave of unshakable confidence spread throughout my entire being. The first great step of that impossible ascent had been successfully taken, but the true climb toward the top of the needle was only beginning.

I took a deep breath of the pure night air that was beginning, keeping my eyes fixed on the colossal vertical structure as I thought with absolute clarity of purpose:

"Now the real challenge will finally begin."
