A knock at the door woke me up. I dreamily got up and opened seeing the old Asian owner. She pointed her finger directly between my eyesight, "I heard the bumping all the way from the ground floor. I don't run a brothel mister Norman take your bed business elsewhere I run a respectable establishment." She said as she shook her finger up and down.
"No miss... *whisper* what's her name Ordis*"
"No idea never asked operator."
Useless system, "no miss it was just my roommate arrived drunk and in his clumsiness broke my TV hence the bumping noise."
She looked behind me seeing the broken pieces of the TV then the cracked wall behind it, "fix wall or pay."
"I'll fix no pay, I mean pay to fix it miss I'll have it done end of the week."
She diminished my promise keeping her serious tone, "no, no end of the year. You a young boy no family to help pay. Just fix it no problem and no more troubles I have family living across the hall. Want no trouble for them." With that said she left.
You know she may seem like a cranky old lady but she's surprisingly caring. I closed the door and turned watching the aftermath of the fight. What should I do next? I mean after cleaning and furnishing the place. Do I need something at the moment.
"Hey Ordis it just came to my mind. I'm I even alive here?"
"Oh what do you mean operator, you have a pluse no? Regrettably."
"No not that, like am I registered in the country, do I have a citizenship or something, family, anything like a backstory here?"
"Nope your illegal don't exist in this universe, no family and technically your only backstory is your a mutant. Questions? No? That's great let's eat eggs!"
A mutant huh? I made breakfast and cleaned up the place while even getting a new TV since I still have a small fortune. All the while thinking obe thought, do I go to Xavier's school? On one hand seems a solid idea, strength in numbers and all that X-men bravado. They could teach more about my power maybe but school, I hate it. On the other hand Xavier can read my mind and find out everything, would he go mad or turn evil. If he's movie version there's a possibility after what he did to Jean.
"Hey Ordis I don't happen to be able to block people from reading my mind?"
"Nope."
"What about later."
"Who knows."
He really is getting on my nerves. I'm just going to watch TV see if they have any movies or shows not from my world. I spent the afternoon watching random videos while Ordis hovered next to me displaying a blank screen until he asked something.
"Don't you have ambition for something else entirely then what you are doing operator?"
"No always wanted enough money to just leave home and relax without having to worry about where to get food. You?"
"Well...Yes the operator surival. I must insure that you have the strength no the power to live. With the altercation with mister Steven Grant I deducted your lacking power."
"Ouch you hurt me. But hey don't sweat it, moon knight is crazy strong in some versions of himself I've heard besides he fights without a care for his safety and is insane too. If I meet some overpowered person I'll just instantly so who cares, just live and let go Ordis."
"Hmm I will need to process this..."
I stared at Ordis for a bit thinking he would finish quickly this time but didn't and resumed watching the horror movie I was watching. Hours went by until it was near midnight and I found a great comedy show when Ordis came to life again.
"Operator I have finished my calculations needed for your surival, I'll follow your advice and let go."
"Atta boy want some popcorn? I'm hungry. Let's order pizza too." I got up and placed a bag of popcorn in the microwave.
Then a knock on the door was heard, probably moon knight. I opened it and a man was standing there, "Wilson Fisk sends his regards." *gunfire*
I dropped to the floor, blood came pouring out from a hole in my stomach and the man stepped over me. He went into my room and retrieved the money leaving to die.
I was scared to die again and desperately tried to stop the bleeding hoping someone would help. My strength began fading quickly and all I could see was Ordis.
"Operator I can save you, you just have to let go and accept the drawbacks. We need to make a deal."
In a voice barely a whisper, "I accept I don't have time."
"Operator decided route of action. Charging power, price of change accepted. Prize earned and waiting for payment. 1...2...3..."
My mind turned blank and then a sort of canvas of black and white filled with colors until they entangled knocking me out cold.
------
I heard birds chirping and opened my eyes and saw myself in a park.
"Welcome to a new New York operator pleased you made it alive sadly."
"This is New York again? Is it my New York? Did I make it back home?"
"Um about that operator, I must notify you of two three things. First the price you paid to be here is confusing but not urgent right now. Second is you get to spin the wheel of prizes isn't that exciting!"
He formed a wheel on his screen but didn't show any of the prizes while he spinned it.
"Whoa we have a winner ta da you've earned The Invective, a beautifully designed shotgun from your hated loved game Destiny 1."
It spawned in my arms and I was taken back to when I used it for fun, running around in multi-player with it. It had a perk that its magazine would regenerate and plus the fast firing rate made it fun to just go in die and kill someone repeatedly. I loved it even more with its Tron like design with the orange hue of lines on it.
"This is great! Not sure why I'll use it tho, oh you said there was a third thing or was that a glitch?"
"Oh forgive me operator, this embrasses Ordis for not being able to pick a better universe but that was part of the price payed. You have an hour a minute."
"A minute for what or hour? Your not making sense."
"Oh how should I put it your still on the marvel side of the fence its just fun-"
"Ahhhhhhhh he bit me, save me mommy."
