The harsh of the alarm clock broke through the quiet room. Evelyn stirred, a frown pulling at her brows before she cracked one eye open to squint at the blinking digits.
Streaks of sunlight already seeped through the curtains, hitting her body and bathing her in a warm glow.
She exhaled deeply, rolling over and silencing the alarm. She wanted to lie in bed forever. But she didn't take a leave of absence and couldn't just bail on Selene.
Her body felt heavy, not with exhaustion but that familiar post-race calm that always followed the rush. Maybe, staying up until the early hours of the morning in a work night wasn't such a good idea.
She wouldn't deny that it felt good though. The consequences however, felt horrible. It was comparable to a hangover.
For a moment, she just lay there, listening to the hum of the air conditioner. It was a bit therapeutic and she found herself drifting off to sleep.
