The rest of the lessons passed in a blurr, all the informations were assimilated, but my mind kept wandering.
What did that voice mean with "Last Error"? And what was supposed to happen tonight?
I was almost scared, but mostly excited; finally I'd get some answers, at least some information regarding this seemingly forgotten path.
Entering my quarters had never felt so strange, entering any room had never felt strange for the matter, but this time something was definitely wrong.
Everything felt slightly in the wrong place and the lights should have never had any hue of green in them.
Just as I noticed these differences, a pale green flame erupted from the sofa and two towering figures appeared to be sitting there.
I had always been tall, but even from a sitting position I could tell they were taller then me.
The man, with soft long raven hair and small pointy ears was well over 7' while the woman was maybe just under it, still taller than me.
Yet, I felt a strange familiarity with them and when they turned to face me, I understood why.
My same hair, but way longer.
The same ears.
My same murky green yet gleaming eyes.
They were just like me.
Ancient high humans.
"Welcome Last Error."
"Yeah… thanks."
Something was strange. I knew these being couldn't possibly be alive, they were like a remnant. But there was still something strange.
"We will now give you 3 pieces of information." Said the man.
"And you will give us 3 pieces of information." Continued the woman.
"What if I don't agree?"
They were following my movements with their eyes, but seemed to ignore my words.
I decided to just take a seat and wait to see how things would play out.
"1st, high humans, or as they may be known now: ancient high humans, posse the first spark, we do not inscribe rune formations, we use our will runes and mana to give life to our ideas. Magic lays not within rules, only in true freedom. You must have the will to bend that freedom. Not create an equivalent exchange."
That made completely sense, to create the spell [mirror] I basically forced the mana to do it, I didn't know shit about formations before today after all.
Also, all that shit about rules and whatnot felt way closer to alchemy than magic in itself.
"2nd always beware of what or who is worshipped, they hold history they themselves have forgotten, yet desperately chase under the orders of false prophets. Like how our kin came to an end." At that the woman winked and the man winced.
"That was already an extra info, will you not count it?"
They ignored me again, not even a flutter of emotion at my rebuke.
Hahahahaha I see. Let's play then.
"3rd information, or more like an advice: collect all the 12 primary runes of the main paths."
Well, that was already on my to do list, so I stayed silent and waited.
"Why you ask? Well, we already told you more than enough."
That was my cue.
"[Mirror]"
Beside me, in front of the couple that was sitting on the sofa, the same couple appeared and like a recording, they started saying the same things I had already heard.
During this time I focused on my passive skill: disillusioned, pushing my mana forward and looking around the room, searching for anything that might have been an illusion.
And I found it.
The same couple that was sitting on the sofa was starring at me with soft eyes from the corner of the room, veiled under illusion but with a proud look on their face.
"You found us quickly."
"As expected of the last Error."
"Who are you guys really? I get that we are the same kin, but was this charade really necessary?"
They stepped forward, and that simple step vanquished all the illusions in the room letting me completely stunned.
Was that a silent counterspell, or a skill? Can I get it?
"That my son, this is the real reason we are here."
"Those informations were all correct by the way…"
Son…
Some strange feeling started to swell in my heart. Something I had never thought I could ever experience, but…
"Please don't call me son… it's a wound I didn't know was still opened…"
They stopped in their track, whatever they were about to say? Forgotten. And in the midst of this all, I was still experiencing that longing, that sense of loss.
But I needed to keep my head up. I couldn't break just from this.
Not now, not ever.
"Continue."
They did, they confirmed the prior informations, emphasis on collecting the runes and then continuing to their real piece of work.
"We are a remnant, an inheritance so to say and we have two purposes: 1st teach you the resonance between the Error mana and the rune of illusion, 2nd to boost your blood purity a little bit. With your current purity you can only hold 1 primary rune from the main paths after all."
That made strangely sense enough. If my blood line purity determines the quantity of runes I could collect a rune every 8.3% purity…
But how was it going to happen?
"You just need to absorb us, dear."
"We are after all, simply remnants made of mana."
That's it? But they feel so real…
"Crow."
At once, all my attention was on the man.
"After you are settled, when you have the chance, search for the name Thylarion."
What? What kind of name is it?
I wanted to rebuke, to continue asking questions, but the solemnity of the situation prevented me from acting on impulse.
I knew that if I asked more, I'd regret it.
So I just started absorbing the mana with the breathing technique my future boss had given me.
The figures of the only other ancient high humans I would probably ever see started to get blurry and I could feel a sense of comfort envelope my entire being.
"Crow. You can only recognise an error when you know the right answer."
"Don't lose yourself dear."
With those parting words, the familiar strangers merged with my mana. Ancient knowledge started to flood my mind while pleasure erupted in my entire body.
A pleasure almost erotic.
I popped a boner.
[bloodline purity is being refined.]
[bloodline purity: 3% -> 11%]
At the same time the memories regarding the rune-mana resonance finished getting sorted out and I understood then why, why these main families were so powerful.
"If I were to describe it, this… resonance… it feel like and authority over a certain aspect of reality."
And yet, there was something bugging me.
"Who the fuck uses illusion except me?"
With this resonance, I could dispel whatever illusion presented itself to me, but for all I knew, illusion and confusion worked on different plane of existence.
I could not create illusions from nothing, sure I could manipulate illusion magic with way more control and detail… but still…
"Maybe traps in a dungeon or creatures from the Beyon?"
Only then a stroke of genius hit my brain like a truck.
"Wait? Can my Error mana resonate with other runes?!"
