Chapter 107: Amelia In Danger
After the attack on ministry by Dudleymort, the first one who lose his position is Cornelius Fudge, he was dismissed and a vote for a new Minister of Magic was called. Two names rose to the top of the list Rufus Scrimgeour and Amelia Bones. Meanwhile, suspects and confirmed Death Eaters, including men linked to the old regime had been rounded up by the Aurors and hauled off for questioning.
And after some verita serum testing, they finally are being judged as criminal and being thrown to Azkaban. Some of them manage to hide at Voldemort place so the auror can't capture them.
Meanwhile, In the dim glow of the meeting room, a figure sat at the head of the table and watched his followers like a chessmaster eyeing the board. Voldemort pale face was an unreadable and when he spoke, his voice was low and chilly.
"Who do you think we should allow to become Minister of Magic?" he asked.
The Death Eaters exchanged glances. The question was not so much about merit as about malleability. They needed someone they could bend or break, someone who would be weak in the face of facing against Dark Lord.
Voldemort can't defeat both of them at the same times because If both candidates was killed early, Dumbledore might be forced to become ministry of magic and further improve Ministry power and also make them hard to invade the ministry of magic.
Better to install a weak wizard now while they are still choosing a new minister of magic.
Bellatrix was the first to answer, her eyes hot with fanaticism. "Amelia Bones," she spat. "She is dangerous in the field. As an Auror she has captured more of our people than any female auror, her feat even beat Rufus Scrimgeous. She wins in all of her duel and never lost once and not just that she also have a lot of experience as the head of department of magical law enforcement. If she becomes Minister, she will become our greatest enemy."
Voldemort inclined his head, the faintest smile on his lips. "You are correct Bellatrix, between the two Amelia has a lot of experience, it is pity pureblood like her didn't want to join us."
Other voices chimed in. "Scrimgeour will be easier to defeat, he didn't have an experience like Amelia Bones," one suggested. "Furthermore Amelia has blood feud with us because we killed her family" Another argued the opposite: "Rufus, we may have a chance to bribe him."
Bellatrix hand tapped the table. "My Lord, let me do it I will kill her," she said simply. She once to further prove her loyalty to him.
Voldemort's eyes glittered, but he didn't once to make a mistake. Once he launch an attack to her and it fail, Amelia Bones would be more hardest to capture. "No, this time I will be the who will be the one who kill her." He said at last. "Make arrangements, find the location of her house and we will strike her as soon as possible. ."
The Death Eaters nodded, they need to end this before a new election would be hold on in just 3 days.
---Dudley POV---
After reading the latest copy of the Daily Prophet, Dudley felt the hair on his neck prick. Something was coming. In the original timeline, Amelia Bones had been killed during the holidays because Voldemort did not want her as Minister of Magic. They still had a month before the Ordinary Wizarding Level exams... one month, but Dudley knew how quickly things could move. He'd already nudged the plot, butterfly effects might ripple out, but one thing remained certain in his mind, Voldemort would act and Amelia Bones was likely to be an early victim.
The first thing he did was call Harry. He found his cousin walking alone across the empty corridor, without Hermione or Ron.
"Harry, something bad about to happen," Dudley said, dragging him toward an empty classroom. He muttered Muffliato as they entered, sealing their conversation from prying ears.
"What is it, Dudley?" Harry asked, surprised at the urgency in Dudley voice.
"Aunty Amelia... she'll be attacked within three days. We need to save her," Dudley replied.
"How do you know?" Harry demanded.
"Simple, she's the leading candidate for Minister of Magic and don't forget she is vocal when facing Death Eater, lot of Death Eater had been sent personally by her to Azkaban. I believe Moldyshorts didn't want her and he will strike before election day, likely at night, after five in the evening, when she return to her manor," Dudley said. "That's how these things work."
"We should tell Dumbledore," Harry began.
"No," Dudley cut in. "Not yet. You remember what I told you before about Dumbledore, this thing only we can do it."
Harry hesitated. "But how can we face him? How do we confront 'Moldyshorts', without making it worse?"
Dudley face hardened. "We don't go in blind. Remember what Ollivander said about your wand? The Priori connection gives you an edge. If your wands connect again with him, I'll be right beside you. I'll be prepared to exploit that moment, either by disarm, disable, whatever it takes to stop the attack."
Harry jaw set. "Okay, should we tell Hermione and Ron?"
"Nope," Dudley said. "Don't involve others with this and they are not ready, but I and you are different we are being hunted by him personally and before I forgot let's tell Susan too"
Harry nodded. "When do we start?"
"Now, I will send Mipsy, Dobby and Kreacher and if something happen, they will inform me personally and we will be there to fight him." said Dudley.
"So are we using Mipsy to apparate there?" asked Harry.
"That is one of our way and there is emergency method that i've prepared," replied Dudley. "Before I forgot, we need to tell Susan about her aunt."
"But Dudley you said don't involve others?" questioned Harry.
"Hey cousin, Susan and Amelia have blood relation so they are not in the category of others. While Ron and Hermione, they are your friend and are not that close with Susan," replied Dudley.
