I sit quietly, the only sound in my office the soft shuffle of papers as I scan the files spread before me. The numbers, the signatures, the history—they all line up like a puzzle only I seem willing to solve.
A knock breaks the stillness.
"Come in," I say without looking up.
Gen steps inside, arms full of documents. He sets the stack in front of me with a small thud. "Sir, what are you doing with these old project files?"
My eyes remain fixed on the page. "Gen, do I need to answer that?"
He straightens immediately. "I'm sorry, sir."
I pick up a folder and flip it open. "What's the update?"
Gen rubs the back of his neck, uneasy. "Sir… today I went to the old lady's café."
I keep reading, my voice steady. "And?"
"Sir… she said Mr. Evan's father is forcing him to marry. And if Mr. Evan refuses, the second option is… surrogacy." His voice drops lower, as if the words themselves are heavy.
That makes me finally look up. "Marriage? Surrogacy…?"
