Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: The devil let me live...just to kill me again.

It should have been a normal day for every one. Which it was except some selected few. The dining hall was off limits to every one. No one dined there any longer due to the attack suffered by the academy. Elara watched as the teacher rambled on and on about specific zones in the realm. Teaching where every darkest creature could be found. It should have been interesting for her, except she had something else in her mind. The attack. How could they have possibly gotten into the zone, past those hundreds of security guards without any one knowing. " The ward stone... Is it broken?" She wondered. It was highly unusual for such beasts to have gotten through the ward stone defense. " Miss Ashwood... What was my last statement?" The professor asked, moving with pride towards her. All eyes turned to her in hatred, but she was already used to it. Immune to their contemptuous snares. " The glorkes are found in the arid forests. Dangerously armed with spikes that render all heat energy useless." Elara recited. She had learned that yesterday. Thank goodness.

As much as the professor hated, it was correct after all. The glorkes were dangerous and could not be eradicated even by fire. " What about dragon fire?" A cadet asked. " Hmm... It is well known that a dragon's fire is not easy to survive, but the Glorkes can." Professor said. Elara gulped down. The historical books, arcane creatures records that they could be killed by a dragon fire from the songbirds dragon. But they rarely bond. She watched the time and the professor's lips. It was almost lunch break and she could find out how the beasts and Ashdod Telayne were able to get past the ward stone. The bell rang and the professor rounded up. She rushed out knowing she had just an hour and thirty minutes before the lunch break ends.

The rushed down the corridor towards the alley at the back. The continuous chattering of cadets became a distant echo behind her. Her eyes faced forward. She could hear footsteps approach. She quickly rushed into a corner, her chest slammed the wall on impact. Pain shoot up forcing her to bite her lips. The figure passed her. She came out and watched the two lieutenants pass by. She scrambled forward into a door and arrived in front of a massive bridge with no railings. This was suicide. She glanced down to see molten fire bubble beneath her. Fear immediately registered in her heart. " Is it worth it?" She whispered to no one. But she had to find out. She had to catch whoever was pulling the strings. She took a leg forward watching her stomach churn in disagreement.

She began a running leap as fast as she could away from the beginning till. A roar. Then flapping of wings, several dragons we're behind her, flying swiftly towards her. She slides down as one flew from her front, the incoming dragon collided with the first dragon. Falling in the bridge. She screamed standing up in fright. She began her race. Digging frantically for her dagger. Her hands coming up in success. The dagger was firmly gripped, that was her chance if survival. Another dragon flew forward slamming fire down at her. She inhaled slowly jumping to the side as the attack missed her narrowly. The dragon giving an angered roar and kept it chase. All dragons in the cave was now active, watching the race. Every one wishing to have a taste of the intruder. She jumped and landed terribly on the floor. The dragons flying up and then gliding down wards. She raised her dagger hoping to dig it into one, as she did so, a black film blasted upwards, blasting the first dragon that reached her in a ghastly explosion. Other dragons retreated watching the first dragon. It recovered and was more angered at the action. She moved faster. Her heart hammering her chest wall violently. Her adrenaline levels rising. Slowly she could feel the fatigue dig it's claws into her knees. She fell down, turning in a shriek as the next dragon slammed it claws at the wall behind her. The force ramming her backwards. She slammed her head into her he ground. Pulling herself back up.

She staggered slowly to the he vault door. Hearing the dragon roars behind her and feeling the heat rise. Spite filled her throat. Just as she felt a huge wind behind her and an enormous roar, she turned in anger shooting her hands up. A black film lurched up and slammed both the heat blast and the dragon backwards. Pain spiking up in her heart. She held her chest in pain. Feeling the pain dig in. What was this? She could feel her curse effect snake through her and heat her up. The pain becoming unbearable slowly. She pushed one leg forward moving in. The vault door was at reach now. She stretched her arm and as she did, a pair of onyx gazed into hers. " What are you doing here?" He asked in the most wicked snarl. Fear reactivated down her. She had ventured into his domain. This was an opportunity for her to be killed. " Umm... I lost my way back." She muttered. " How unfortunate!'' he smiled moving closer. His eyes angled at hr in snare.

" I made a mistake... I will leave now." She whispered taking her left leg back. He moved again. Touching the tip of his dagger strapped on his waist. She glanced down at it. Feeling hers too. Anger plastered into he heart, but fear ruling her being. " You know don't you?" He muttered. " About your save. How you got into this mess." He said in an authoritative tone. She did know. She knew enough to be sick of it. " I trust that little brain if yours works just fine. " He marveled pulling the dagger up slowly. Elara had never felt so vulnerable in her life. To someone who she did not even care about. " Why did he try to kill you?" Xaden asked in the most obscene way. Moving closer that she could feel his heart beat merge into her. " Because I am evil." She muttered. For once he gave a wholehearted laughter. " You evil...you are more than that to him... To every one in the academy." Xaden said slowly. Gripping the dagger tightly.

" Because of love." Xaden smiled maliciously. If this wasn't a death position, Elara could swear she would have laughed before him. It was hilarious how he would make assumptions and conclusions on random observation. " You are a fool to think any one loves you." Xaden laughed. She could feel her heart knot. Ouch! " He is so in love with his beloved country he is blinded." Xaden said. She held her dagger tighter. Ashdod wasn't a native of Audrigald. How could he possibly ever like it? " How did you think he got into the dark zone?" Xaden laughed. She shook her head. That was what she was here to find out. He leaned in and whispered into her ear. " Ohh... The ward stone is working just fine." He whispered. He heart leapt. Something was terribly wrong. He knew why she was there. " How did you think you survived?" Xaden said looking into her gemstone eyes.

" Jason saved me. " She said in riot. He did. She heard him come through the door and help her. " How did you know? You were receiving a vision at that time." Xaden said and tilted his hair. " Vision? So that was what it was? How did he know?" Elara thought. " Why was your door locked?" Xaden asked moving to her. " How did he know all these. Relma would never tell him. He was not in good terms with Jason. So how did he..." She thought looking up in fright. He gave a devilish smile and could see realization break off her head. " You were there. " She muttered

" Go on..." He said. " You locked them out of my room." Elara said. Fear in here heart. What he could do with people's mind. She swallowed. She knew now. How Ashdod was gone. " You saved me." She muttered. The words tasting bad in her mouth. A pleased smile lit his devilish features. " I trust you had a well functioning brain." He said in amazement. She reached backwards. Feeling all the air around become stale. Her enemy just saved her life. He was the one that nearly killed Ashdod. She should feel gratitude, but fear got into her immediately. How did he get into the ward? He looked at her finally at peace. " Time to take what I wanted." He muttered. And she could feel the edge of his dagger on her wounded abdomen. Pushing his hand into her clothing and pulling out a metallic sphere from her pocket.

Fear lit in her head. He grasped her blessing in n his palms. " No..." She whispered. He smiled. She reached in, anger clouding her immediately. " Give. It. Back" she screamed and reached. He moved, striking his dagger forward In one flawless motion. Shriek in her eyes as she watched. Blood bursting into her face and her heart hammering her chest cavity. She fell to the ground. So did he. Her head smashing into the Rocky floor as her Ash hair went red with....blood.
