The next day, she called her and asked to meet in a public place.
The two girls met in a small café and sat by the window.
Céline ordered two cups of coffee and two slices of cake.
While they waited for their order, Céline brought up the subject with Eva.
She didn't want to dive straight into it, so she whispered softly:"
_Eva… do you believe that sometimes the truth can be more dangerous than a lie?"
Eva laughed and replied:"
_Of course. Otherwise, why would it always be hidden?"
Céline answered:"
_I need your help… but you have to promise me you won't tell anyone, no matter what happens."
She told her everything about Lilia, about the papers, about the Saint Teresa Center, about the man who asked about the child, and about the implicit threat she had felt.
Eva didn't laugh. She didn't say "Oh, that's crazy" like she used to in middle school.
Instead, she leaned forward and said:"
_We're in bigger trouble than I thought… we can't afford to waste a single moment."
The fact that Eva took the matter seriously made things easier for Céline, who began speaking to her firmly and shared her next plans, consulting her on several matters.
Eva wasn't happy at all about this adventure she felt deep sympathy for little Lilia, whose life was about to be ruined, and she sincerely wanted to help this kind, selfless sister who wished to protect the little girl even if she wasn't her real sister.
The two girls began planning immediately and agreed to gather more information.
Eva would search through the dark web archives she knew, and Céline would call the district office under a false name to ask about old records.
Moments later, the coffee and cake arrived, and the friends took a short break while eating.
After finishing their meal, they went out for a walk and continued their conversation — but what they didn't know was that someone was watching them, and the shadow that had followed Céline hadn't disappeared.
It was getting closer...
