"Now, I have to go break Sera's heart all over again." He sighed.
"Charles…"
"It… I cannot describe it, Claudia," he said, shaking his head slowly. "But I feel her pain." He pressed his fist against his chest again. "She is alone and pregnant and… it's stupid. I love her, Claudia. I do."
"And I am telling you," Charles continued, "I am going to get to the bottom of this." His eyes burned now, no longer clouded with confusion. "I'm going to do whatever it takes for her to get her wolf back. Then you will see that I am right," he said firmly. "You can do whatever you want."
He turned before Claudia could answer, striding toward his car parked just outside the clinic gates.
"Charles!" Claudia called after him.
He did not respond. He slid into the driver's seat, slammed the door, and started the engine.
Then he drove away.
Claudia stood there long after the car disappeared down the winding road.
