The man closed his eyes. Kelsey heard him utter a single, low word. "Fine."
Before any relief could bloom in her chest, he delivered the cold, hard truth.
"You should know," he said, his voice flat, "I don't want to see you like this. At least make me feel like this year is worth it."
Kelsey took a deep, steadying breath. "I know."
If she was still confused about what Rhett wanted at this point, she'd be lying to herself.
She could guess. She probably had it figured out.
He wanted the old Kelsey. The one who loved him with her whole heart, no questions asked.
She didn't know why he wanted that ghost back, but since he did… she'd give him the performance.
