After everyone left, the room was silent. Just the two of them.
Kelsey didn't sleep well.
She'd jolt awake every now and then, eyes wide with some unseen terror, only to drift back into a fitful, uneasy sleep a few minutes later.
Even the sedative couldn't pull her under completely.
It was a sign. Her psychological wounds ran deep, so deep they were now poisoning her body.
Not long after, Kelsey's eyes fluttered open again.
She looked dazed, confused, unsure of where she was.
Seeing Rhett sitting beside the bed, her lips parted. Recognition slowly filtered back in. "What… what time is it?"
"Don't worry about the time. Just sleep if you can."
Rhett's hand came to rest on her head, his fingers gently stroking her hair. "You don't have to work tomorrow. I'll be here. I'll take care of everything."
His voice was so soft. So gentle. He didn't even realize how accommodating he sounded.
