Chapter 12 - Fairy vs. Fallen

Raynare gritted her teeth and raised her hand again. "Don't mock me, human!" she shouted, summoning another magenta light spear. She thrust it forward, aiming directly at Sun Jing's heart.

But instead of piercing through, the spear's energy halted midair, its surface trembling before being pulled apart into streams of glowing energy.

"What... what the hell?!" Raynare gasped as the spear's light was sucked into Sun Jing's body, absorbed completely into the pink haze swirling around her.

Sun Jing opened her eyes, her voice calm but cutting. "You really should be more careful where you point those."

Before Raynare could react, Sun Jing vanished.

A single pulse of pink energy burst outward, followed by the crack of impact.

A shockwave followed—crack!—the ground splitting beneath Raynare as her body was flung backward. She stumbled, clutching her nose as warm blood trickled down.

"Wh–what just happened?! Did she... punch me?!" Raynare's mind raced, scanning the battlefield.

But Sun Jing hadn't moved. She still stood exactly where she was—hands in her pockets, magenta eyes half-lidded, expression blank and unreadable.

'No… she didn't move. There's no trace of movement, no shift in energy. Then how…?'

Sun Jing tilted her head slightly, her calm voice breaking the silence. "You talk too much."

Raynare snarled, summoning another pair of light spears in fury. "You little—!"

[Skill Level Up!]

Hazy Moon – has reached Level 2!

Sun Jing tilted her head slightly, "You look confused. Should I slow down for you?"

"You… you filthy little shit! I'll tear you apart!"

But Sun Jing was already gone from sight.

"Wha—?!"

"Behind you."

Before Raynare could turn, a powerful kick struck her square in the back, sending her crashing into the park's fountain. The marble cracked on impact as water splashed high into the air, raining down over both of them.

Raynare let out a choked gasp, submerged and sputtering as she pushed herself up from the shattered fountain base. Her wings were soaked and heavy.

Sun Jing slowly approached, hands still in her pockets. The pink glow around her faded, but her presence felt even more oppressive.

"Y-you monster…" Raynare hissed, summoning yet another light spear, though her hands were shaking. "I'll show you… the power of a Fallen Angel!"

Sun Jing tilted her head slightly, expression unchanging. "Sure. Go ahead. I'll even let you have the first move again."

Raynare's face twisted in rage, her wings spreading wide as she soared into the air, black feathers scattering in the wind. "You'll regret mocking me, you damn insect!"

Dozens of magenta light spears formed around her.

Raynare smirked, veins bulging from the strain of maintaining her spell. "Let's see you absorb this!"

With a furious scream, she launched every spear at once.

"DIE!"

The sky lit up in a storm of magenta light like a rain of fire.

But Sun Jing didn't flinch. She exhaled softly and reached for the Traveler's Sword in her inventory. The worn blade shined faintly as her magic flared to life.

"Alright then," she said, voice calm but resolute. "Let's test this out."

The world slowed. The spears struck—yet none reached her. Instead, every single one bent backward, their trajectories reversing midair with explosive force.

Raynare's eyes widened in horror. "W-WHAT?!"

The same light spears she had created now hurled back at her—faster, brighter, and magnified with devastating power.

"Full Counter!" Sun Jing's voice echoed as the blades of light collided with Raynare in a massive explosion.

A pillar of pink and magenta energy erupted into the sky, the shockwave flattening the nearby trees and sending a fierce wind across the park.

When the light finally faded, Raynare's charred body was seen flung high into the air—her wings shredded, her armor smoking. She screamed as she disappeared into the distance, a faint twinkle vanishing into the night sky.

Sun Jing let out a slow breath, lowering her sword. The Traveler's Sword steamed slightly from the energy it had just reflected, its dull blade glowing faintly before cooling.

"Guess I went a little overboard…" she muttered.

The night had grown eerily still. The only sound left was the faint trickle of water from the fountain — the same fountain Raynare had crashed into moments ago.

Sun Jing turned her gaze toward where Issei's body had fallen earlier. But when she looked again…

It was gone.

"…Huh?" she muttered, blinking. "Where'd he go?"

She walked closer, her boots crunching lightly against the gravel. The blood that had soaked the ground was gone too — as if it had never existed. Even the shattered tiles of the park path were perfectly restored, smooth and clean under the moonlight.

"What the—? The fountain's fixed?" she murmured, touching its marble edge. The surface was flawless, not even a crack. "Okay, that's not creepy at all…"

"Don't worry, he's perfectly safe."

Turning around, she saw Akeno Himejima standing a few feet away.

"Akeno-senpai?" Sun Jing asked, surprised. "What are you doing here?"

Akeno folded her arms and tilted her head slightly, her tone light but knowing. "Just helping Rias with… damage control."

Sun Jing blinked. "Damage control?"

"You'll find out soon enough."

"I promise," Akeno continued, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear, "everything will be explained to you tomorrow at school."
