"Is this what they call a cunning rabbit with three burrows? But do you really think you can escape?"
Watching Kingpin flee at full speed, 2B's expression remained calm—utterly devoid of worry.
She had already laid eyes on him, and that gave her absolute confidence she could catch him. In her view, Kingpin was merely making a last-ditch struggle.
Though he was known as the Kingpin of Crime—a title that sounded formidable—in her eyes, he was hardly different from an ordinary person. If anything, ordinary people were like ants to her, and Kingpin was, at best, a slightly stronger ant. No matter how hard he jumped, he could never leap from the palm of her hand.
When she saw him heading for the rooftop, 2B allowed a faint, controlled smile to cross her lips. She didn't chase after him directly. Instead, she leapt through the floor-to-ceiling office window, flipped gracefully into the air, and began scaling the building's outer wall with her bare hands.
In mere moments, she reached the rooftop—just as Kingpin pushed open the door and stepped out toward the waiting helicopter.
The sight of 2B already standing there, one step ahead of him, twisted his face into a storm of emotions: shock, fury, and disbelief, his eyes reddening with rage.
Realizing escape was futile, Kingpin stopped wasting time. He fixed 2B with a cold, unwavering stare.
"It seems you're determined to catch me today," he said, slowly removing his white suit. He had made his choice: no more running. He would face her head-on.
His massive frame made the suit restrictive in combat, so he always shed it before a real fight—it had become his signature ritual.
2B shook her head. "You're mistaken. I'm not here to arrest you. I'm here to kill you. Of course, before that, I'll pry open your mouth and make you tell me everything you know."
She paused, her voice dropping to a chilling whisper. "You can surrender now and confess everything—though I'll make your death far more painful if you do. Believe me… my knife is very sharp. It won't hurt… much."
"Woman, you're arrogant," Kingpin growled. "I haven't met someone like you in a long time. Fine—let's have some fun today."
As he finished speaking, he slowly raised his cane and assumed a fighting stance.
Without warning, a red laser shot from its tip, striking toward 2B with deceptive speed.
But she simply sidestepped—effortlessly evading the attack.
"The young master said you were an extremely cunning man," she said coolly. "Now I see he was absolutely right. But if you think tricks like this can defeat me, you're gravely mistaken."
Kingpin didn't flinch at her evasion. Instead, he pressed a hidden switch on the cane.
Instantly, thick white smoke billowed from its core, rapidly filling the rooftop. No one knew its composition, but it clung stubbornly to the air, reducing visibility to near zero within seconds.
That was precisely his goal. Though his combat skills were formidable, he knew he stood no chance against 2B under fair conditions. He needed an advantage—and this smokescreen was it.
The moment the fog enveloped the rooftop, he acted.
With a sharp twist, his cane transformed into a gleaming longsword. Without a word, he lunged forward, driving the blade toward 2B's neck with unstoppable force.
In his opinion, 2B's vision was completely blocked by the white smoke at that moment. She couldn't see his movements at all—so it was impossible for her to block his attack, let alone avoid it.
But he had never expected that 2B wasn't actually human; she was a YoRHa android. In addition to possessing a visual system similar to that of humans, she also had infrared thermal imaging capabilities.
Therefore, the so-called white smoke had no effect on her whatsoever. The reason she hadn't acted was twofold: first, she couldn't kill Kingpin just yet; second, she simply wanted to see how he'd perform.
Now that the show was over, it was time to act.
The moment the thought crossed her mind, she extended two fingers and swiftly clamped them together—seizing the tip of the longsword in Kingpin's hand and halting its advance completely.
This sudden move stunned Kingpin instantly.
He'd made so many preparations for this one decisive strike, fully confident it would succeed.
Yet he never imagined the woman before him could neutralize it so effortlessly.
Worse still, he couldn't understand how—his white smoke had clearly obscured her vision!
How had she done it?
Questions flooded his mind, one after another, fueling his growing irritation and rage. This feeling of being manipulated by unknown means was far more unsettling than outright defeat.
Seeing that his cane was now immobilized by 2B, he didn't hesitate. He immediately pressed a button at the base of the handle. Instantly, a laser shot from the tip of the blade, aimed directly at the center of 2B's forehead.
But at that exact moment, 2B tightened her grip. With a sharp ding, the sword's tip snapped cleanly off in her fingers, and the laser veered off course—striking the nearby helicopter instead.
The beam's immense penetrating power and intense heat bored a finger-sized hole through the helicopter's hatch in an instant, a stark testament to its destructive potential.
Had it hit 2B, the damage would have been severe.
"Do you have any other tricks?" she asked coolly, her voice dripping with disdain. "If so, use them now—because you won't get another chance."
Having effortlessly dismantled Kingpin's entire assault, 2B regarded him in silence, her expression unreadable.
At her words, Kingpin's face went ashen. As the undisputed king of New York's underworld—and arguably all of the United States—he had never endured such humiliation. Fury surged through him, reddening his eyes.
In that instant, he abandoned his cane and seized one of 2B's arms with both hands, preparing to execute his signature judo throw—an over-the-shoulder toss he'd perfected over decades.
But before he could complete the motion, he sensed something was wrong. The moment his hands made contact with the girl, an unnatural chill ran through him.
This coldness wasn't human. It felt more like steel.
In a flash, realization struck him. He stared at 2B, eyes wide with disbelief.
"You… you're not human!"
