Blanche's POV
Carry's words made Heidi's blood run cold.
Heidi lifted Carry and headed toward Blissfield Villa, her voice firm. "Miss Carry, Mrs. Jacob is your mother—she loves you more than anyone in this world. How can you talk like that?"
Carry wrapped her arms around Heidi's shoulder, tears choking her voice. "I just want one mom. I don't want two."
Heidi couldn't grasp what Carry was getting at; bewilderment clouded her thoughts.
But as she mulled it over, understanding slowly crept in—she finally got what Carry was saying.
Carry wanted Joanna as her mom.
Heidi said, "Miss Carry, Mrs. Jacob gave birth to you. Her blood flows through you—you're her flesh and blood. She's not just your mother; she's the only one who can be your mother."
Carry let out a small grunt, clearly done listening, so she went quiet.
Heidi felt Carry's stubbornness, so she dropped it.
But deep inside, Carry held onto Joanna's words tight.
She could only have one mom, not two.
