Alfred moaned softly when a nurse had given him a shot of pain killers and immunosuppressants drugs. Though he was off the ventilator, his breathing was gradual. It had improved in days.
Ava lay beside him.
She had had a shower as soon as she had arrived, changed clothes, and laid quietly, close to her Son. He had been sleeping., but now his eyes were wide, and shining with it.
He relaxed almost close to Ava's breasts. "Mama!" Alfred spoke. His voice was strong, still Ava could hear tears in them.
"When did you come?"
"Long enough to take pictures with you, while you slept." Ava smiled, turning briefly to look at Maria. She had been the one capturing memories, even when Ava hadn't asked. Ava had seen her straighten her phone, while she snuggled close to her son , but she had no idea, she had been taking photos and videos.
"Thoughful Maria!" She had muttered happily.
"You don't look like you've been crying Mama." Ava smiled heartily. Alfred's humor was back on full swing.
