Chapter 211: The Curious Doctor!
Swoosh, swoosh.
The previously clear night sky suddenly became somewhat murky, and a gust of cold wind swept through the ears of the Buli werewolves, causing everyone's expression to change slightly.
"We are still five hours away from the next base! We don't have time. Carry the goods and follow me!" Kui Qing, who was leading the way, looked at the sandstorm approaching from a distance. His wolf-like eyes narrowed slightly, then he directed the other werewolves to follow him closely in a dense formation to prevent anyone from getting separated. He quickly began forging ahead, clearing the way.
Whoosh!
Before they had even traveled far, the sky, which had been clear just moments ago, was suddenly obscured by a thick yellow sandstorm. Everyone was immediately enveloped by the unexpected storm, and visibility was rapidly reduced to less than three meters.
Boom!
Kui Qing, who was leading the group, suddenly stomped his foot hard on the ground. The powerful Dou Qi pierced through the sand, causing a small amount of blood to seep out. Then, he gently kicked with his toes, and an egg-sized yellow magic core was kicked out of the sand. He quickly grabbed it and tucked it into his clothes.
"Stay alert! Watch out for sandworms hiding in the dark!" Kui Qing's expression turned serious as he slowed his pace. Relying on his experience, he cautiously led the group forward. Sandworms moved freely in the desert, and staying still was pointless. The best course of action was to keep moving and cross the sandstorm as quickly as possible.
As a Dou Ling powerhouse, Kui Qing was mostly safe from the dangers of the desert, except for the potential threat posed by the Sandworm King. His duty was to ensure as many of his tribe as possible returned safely.
The formation of the werewolves had changed in the storm. The strongest of the group, including several Great Dou Masters and high-star Dou Masters, had positioned themselves on the outer perimeter to guard. Inside were the weaker werewolves, including Jiang Lin. At this point, Jiang Lin once again wrapped himself up tightly, donning the goggles he had crafted over the past few days. His Black Rider battle helmet had a built-in set of goggles, but it was fixed to the helmet and had not been considered for such a situation earlier.
Jiang Lin looked at the vast yellow sand around him, feeling a deeper understanding of why beastmen seemed to embrace harsh natural environments.
"Generally, sandstorms don't occur at night," A Mo said, standing next to Jiang Lin, his expression tense. Earlier, they had been in an outer area where sandworms didn't reach, but now, they were in a place far from civilization, where human cultivators wouldn't be around to manage things. The danger here was real.
"These sandworms... I feel like they've been driven here by some kind of presence. What could be the reason?" Jiang Lin asked as he stood on the wooden board, watching the werewolves outside clearing the approaching sandworms. Most of the sandworms were only at the first stage and relatively small in size. In the hands of the werewolves, they were mere cannon fodder, easily killed in one strike. After killing the sandworms, the werewolves quickly extracted their magic cores and continued forward.
"You're right, Master. In the southern desert center, that's the territory of the Serpent Tribe. They regularly drive away these sandworms, which are driven only by hunger and instincts. That's why we're the only ones dealing with these creatures here," Kui Qing explained with a worried look as he glanced back at Jiang Lin. "But usually, the Serpent Tribe only drives them away during the day. They rarely do so at night, except when they're preparing for a major festival."
"If it's just desert burrowing worms, it's not too bad. They look scary, but aside from their ambush ability, they're quite weak compared to other beasts of the same stage. The real danger is the desert yellow-armored scorpions. Their fighting power is extremely strong, and they are the most troublesome creatures to deal with."
"..." Jiang Lin thought to himself that if he were to say something like "Why not just use the wings of the sheath?" in this situation, it would be quite dramatic. Unfortunately, Jiang Lin didn't have extra wings of the sheath, and even if he did, the werewolves wouldn't be able to learn how to use them quickly. After all, these werewolves had suffered from being half-beast, and the Dou Qi wings weren't necessarily suitable for them.
"If you don't want to encounter the desert yellow-armored scorpions, then don't go forward. There's a magic beast with a third-stage aura ahead. Are you going to charge in?" Jiang Lin, looking through his goggles, fixed his crimson-gold eyes on a shadow about a hundred meters ahead.
"Hmm?" Kui Qing, who was about three to four meters ahead, froze for a moment and then quickly looked toward the front. However, all he could see was the endless yellow sand. Yet, his warrior's instinct told him that Jiang Lin wouldn't make baseless claims. He immediately asked, "Are you sure it's a third-stage desert yellow-armored scorpion, Master?"
"If there aren't any other scorpions in the desert, it must be the desert yellow-armored scorpion. The aura it gives off is much denser than the sandworms," Jiang Lin explained calmly, standing among the werewolves. "I'm a doctor, so I'm very sensitive to life forces."
Today, he had once again become a doctor, guided by his curiosity.
Kui Qing's eyes hardened upon hearing Jiang Lin's explanation. "Whatever the Master says, we'll follow."
"If that's the case... left forward, charge!" Jiang Lin stood on the wooden board, surrounded by everyone. Amid the endless yellow sand, he pointed the way, like an ancient military guide leading the march.
"Left forward, charge!" Since they trusted Jiang Lin, Kui Qing didn't hesitate and gave the command immediately. The other werewolves quickly turned the sandboat around and charged in the direction Jiang Lin pointed without a second thought. While not all the werewolves believed Jiang Lin, they trusted their captain Kui Qing.
Crack!
Surrounded by the group, Jiang Lin instructed A Mo and the others to lie flat, then took out his Black Feather Heavy Bow. The mechanical pulleys quickly unfolded, and with A Mo and the others looking on in shock, Jiang Lin drew the bow and released a Dou Qi-infused arrow. With a whoosh, the crimson-gold arrow flew out, and a moment later, a two-meter-long desert burrowing worm emerged from the sand and caught the arrow directly in its head!
Boom!
The second-stage desert giant worm's head was instantly blown apart, its colorful brain matter spraying everywhere. The group hadn't even had time to react, and only a few seconds later, when they passed by, they noticed the squirming body of the second-stage desert giant worm on the ground.
Kui Qing's eyes narrowed but quickly reacted, retrieving the egg-sized yellow second-stage magic core from the worm's body.
"Aren't you a doctor?" A smaller female werewolf, lying on the board, stared at Jiang Lin's massive bow with trembling voice.
Jiang Lin gave her a faint look. "What do you know, kid? That was a cranial operation."
