Chapter 293: Unexpected Joy!
In the depths of the dimly lit cave, Jiang Lin and Yun Yun both silently looked up at the bronze wall at the end of the cave, where flickering lights slowly glimmered. After a brief moment of silence, Yun Yun spoke: "The things you need should be just ahead."
With that, Yun Yun walked over to the side of the bronze wall, using the faint light to guide her. She extended her hand, gently brushing over the complex, mystical symbols on the wall. Her slender fingers traced along the intricate carvings until she found a button, pressing it. Suddenly, a hidden passage opened on the side of the bronze wall.
Yun Yun quickly entered the passage, and as Jiang Lin was about to follow, he saw Yun Yun emerge holding an ancient ring, her face full of confusion.
"Take a look and see if it's what you need," Yun Yun said as she handed the ring to Jiang Lin. Without hesitation, Jiang Lin placed his spiritual energy into the ring. In the next instant, he felt as though his spiritual force had entered a vast, empty space of over a hundred cubic meters. Inside this space, several faint glowing orbs were scattered.
Jiang Lin instinctively moved his spiritual energy to sense each of the orbs. His expression slightly shifted when he noticed that most of the orbs contained sixth-grade materials. Some of the orbs were large, but still contained only sixth-grade materials, while others were small but emitted a dazzling glow in Jiang Lin's perception.
However, what truly caught his attention was one of the orbs, which contained a magic core.
Finally, the ancient ring in Jiang Lin's hand glowed slightly, and three orbs floated out, suspended in front of both of them by Dou Qi.
Yun Yun raised an eyebrow, her beautiful green eyes instinctively focusing on the three orbs floating in Jiang Lin's hand. She had seen all the items in the ring, many of which were large objects, but the ones in Jiang Lin's hand were unusually small.
The three orbs were: a fist-sized pale golden crystal, a fist-sized grayish-white ore, and a twenty-centimeter long scroll.
Yun Yun reached out and took the scroll from the Dou Qi orb, dispelling the energy around it. With the faint light from the bronze wall, she could barely make out the four large characters written on the scroll: "Formation Tool Annotations."
"Formation Tool Annotations? How did I miss this?" Yun Yun was secretly surprised, as she had briefly checked the ring when she first found it, and she was certain that the scroll hadn't been there then.
"This scroll should be related to spiritual energy," Jiang Lin explained, his gaze flickering slightly. "The scroll was hidden in the ring using a formation that obscured it. If your spiritual energy doesn't meet a certain threshold, you wouldn't be able to sense it."
"Well, your spiritual energy is actually stronger than mine, even though I'm a Dou Huang," Yun Yun remarked, a bit taken aback. After a brief pause, she decided to put the scroll aside, realizing it was a one-time-use Dou Qi scroll. "Let's get back to the point. Do you just need these three things?"
After carefully examining the scroll in her hands, she realized that the one-time-use Dou Qi scroll wasn't meant for her. With a sigh, she relinquished it to Jiang Lin.
"That scroll should have been placed by Lord Xuan. It was meant to be passed to you refiners," Yun Yun continued, then looked at the pale golden crystal. Her eyes widened slightly, and she remarked, "This is an extremely rare sixth-grade Magic Core of the Gold Element. Although most of the energy has already dissipated, I can still feel its terrifying power. The magical beast it came from must have been at least at the later stages of the sixth grade."
Indeed, Jiang Lin was very fortunate. He had found a sixth-grade Gold Element Magic Core inside the ring. Although he was surprised, it made perfect sense upon further reflection.
The previous owner of the ring, Xuan Xing, a super-class formation master, was accustomed to carrying high-grade magic cores with him. It wasn't unusual. The energy depletion in the core might not have been natural, but it could have been used as a core in a formation.
When Jiang Lin saw the sixth-grade Magic Core alongside the seventh-grade Soul Gold, he could already imagine how the former president of the Refiner's Guild, Xuan Xing, had used the power of the world itself to create a formation beast comparable to a Dou Huang, using the Soul Gold to store the soul essence and the Magic Core as the energy source. Because the formation technique used was a ground-level Dou Skill, the World Energy would have been amplified by the Magic Core, activating the formation to its fullest.
As a super-class formation master, Xuan Xing had clearly followed his unique path after reaching the sixth grade. This was a common trend among all super-class formation masters in the Dou Qi continent. Since no one knew what was the "right" path, they all blindly charged down this dark road.
Above the sixth-grade formation masters, the seventh-grade was called "Formation Sect," meaning the ability to establish their own school and system. Among the super-class formation masters in the Dou Qi continent, a few had already achieved the strength of the seventh-grade Formation Sect. However, due to their lack of confidence in organizing all the existing systems, they preferred to be called super-class formation masters, and rarely did anyone refer to themselves as a seventh-grade Formation Sect.
Jiang Lin had studied the three main branches of the current Refiner's Guild. The Soul Tools and Formation Tools were dominated by two ancient families, while the Refiner's Guild was more of an integrated school, the Tiangong School, which incorporated elements of both the Soul Tools and Formation Tools. Xuan Xing was undoubtedly a part of the Tiangong School, combining the characteristics of both and developing his own unique path as a super-class formation master.
"It is said that President Xuan Xing once tamed a sixth-grade Golden Flame Eagle. If there were no accidents, this sixth-grade Magic Core should belong to that Golden Flame Eagle," Jiang Lin said with a hint of nostalgia.
Of course, Xuan Xing wouldn't kill his own magical beast mount. Instead, the Golden Flame Eagle had died in the hands of the neighboring Golden Swallow Sect. The Magic Core was later retrieved by the Refiner's Guild from the Golden Swallow Sect and returned to the Gamal Refiner's Guild.
Not long after, Xuan Xing resigned, disappeared, and never returned.
The Refiner's Guild didn't record the events that followed, and it was then that Hu Lei became the new president.
