Chapter 294: The Elder Behind the Bronze Wall!
"In this era, under the leadership of Hu Lei, the Refiner's Guild has become increasingly isolated. Yun Lan Sect has already lost the connection it once had with the Refiner's Guild, and right now, Jiang Lin is undoubtedly the key figure to rebuild that bridge between the Yun Lan Sect and the current Refiner's Guild," Yun Yun mused aloud.
Jiang Lin couldn't help but smile a little at Yun Yun's words. He had expected as much, but hearing her acknowledge it out loud made him realize just how important he was to both sides.
"Does Elder Yun Miao know what Ming Shen Soul Gold looks like?" After a brief moment of contemplation, Yun Yun nodded, agreeing with Jiang Lin's previous point. It seemed that Jiang Lin truly was the one to facilitate the reconnection between Yun Lan Sect and the Refiner's Guild.
This was also why Yun Yun had previously mentioned she would personally make the decision to give the items to the Refiner's Guild. She understood this was an opportunity that shouldn't be wasted.
Growing up listening to stories about her teacher Yun Shan and Lord Xuan, Yun Yun couldn't help but feel a sense of admiration for Jiang Lin, an elite refiner of this era. Deep down, she wondered if she too would follow in her teacher's footsteps.
"Sorry, at that time, I was just an ordinary elder, and I didn't know much about it," Yun Miao said as he shook his head. He admitted that he didn't know about the Ming Shen Soul Gold and had never even seen it.
"Well, if possible, I can search for it myself. Refiners are usually confident about their understanding of materials." At this moment, Jiang Lin confidently offered his assistance, though his interest in the "Life and Death Gate" was clear. He was curious to see it for himself—just a quick glance, nothing more.
Yun Yun gave him a long, deep look. His expression, as though he was ready to help with anything, made her raise an eyebrow. After a brief pause, she nodded and said, "Fine, follow me."
She led him quickly to the back of the Yun Lan Hall.
"Just so you know, the Life and Death Gate is a secret of Yun Lan Sect. You are the second refiner to visit it since Lord Xuan." Yun Yun's voice was calm as they moved along the corridors. She glanced over at Jiang Lin and added, "Normally, others would be blindfolded and their senses blocked before they are brought here. But you're different; as a Spiritual Sense-sensitive refiner, Yun Lan Sect hasn't yet created a Dou Qi artifact capable of blocking a refiner's Spiritual Sense. Instead of hiding everything, it's better to be more upfront."
The passage was completely dark, and the air was thin, but Yun Yun grabbed Jiang Lin by the collar and swiftly flew through it as if she were a missile. Only the sound of the wind could be heard.
Jiang Lin had previously encountered an artifact that could block Spiritual Sense, such as the veil worn by Xiao Yi Xian in Yan City. The veil's construction was incredibly refined, and even Yao Chen had been stumped by it. The veil could detect strong spiritual energy nearby and give a warning by changing colors.
However, this wasn't a problem for Jiang Lin. His Spiritual Sense could both perceive and "see."
"Life and Death Gate concerns the secrets of Yun Lan Sect. But if you're here to search for the things left by Lord Xuan, it shows you're fated with the sect, so we have no problem with you knowing about it," Yun Yun said as they continued their journey.
Yun Lan Sect had its own way of gathering and protecting information. Even the imperial family of the Gamal Empire had given some of their own records to the Refiner's Guild for safekeeping.
"So, if the Life and Death Gate encounters any problems in the future, I hope you can lend a hand," Yun Yun continued.
"Of course," Jiang Lin nodded. He had already figured out the general nature of the Life and Death Gate.
Suddenly, a glimmer of light appeared ahead. Yun Yun, with Jiang Lin close behind, broke through the darkness and emerged outside, at the edge of a cliff.
Yun Yun continued to lead Jiang Lin down, eventually coming to a hidden, narrow cave entrance beneath the cliff. They entered the cave, and after a brief descent, they landed in front of a stone cave.
"There is a strange power inside," Jiang Lin said as he stood behind Yun Yun, his golden eyes shimmering.
"This is the entrance to the Life and Death Gate. We don't need to enter, though. What you need should be right here." Yun Yun spoke softly, continuing to lead Jiang Lin inside.
As they ventured deeper, the surrounding darkness began to lighten, and small glowing crystals were embedded in the cave walls. With the soft, gentle glow, Jiang Lin instinctively looked up, and at the far end of the dim light, he saw a bronze wall emerging from the shadows.
This bronze wall was covered with mysterious symbols that radiated an aura of terrifying, twisted power. Despite the rust stains from years of decay, Jiang Lin could still sense a fresh aura from it. This was no ordinary wall; it was the Life and Death Gate, a portal to another world.
"This is the Life and Death Gate," Yun Yun said, her voice carrying a hint of melancholy as she gazed at the wall. She sighed softly, clearly reflecting on the gravity of the situation.
Her teacher, Yun Shan, the old master of Yun Lan Sect, should be on the other side of the gate. However, no one knew if he was still alive. Even Yun Yun, whose heart was tied to the fate of the sect, was uncertain, as Yun Shan's lifespan was nearing its end, and without a breakthrough, he would pass on.
"The young man... his presence carries the shadow of Lord Xuan," the old voice from behind the bronze wall sighed.
Yun Yun's eyes flashed with surprise. "Does that mean Lord Xuan is still alive?"
"Twenty years ago, he fell to the powers of the Dou Zong. It's beyond the reach of a Dou Huang to understand. As time passes, the Golden Swallow Sect's Dou Zong should be recovering. War is coming, and preparations have likely begun," the voice continued, heavy with the weight of regret.
"I advised him, but he said his time was near. Such a young man," the elderly voice added, a sigh of deep sorrow escaping.
"But if given the chance, I will seek revenge for him."
