Isabella — Running Through Shadows
Rain fell harder now, slicing through the trees in silver lines. Every drop stung against Isabella's skin as she stumbled through the underbrush, her heart hammering a wild, terrified rhythm.
Her breath came in short bursts the cold air burning her lungs. Her boots slipped in the mud, catching on roots, but she didn't dare stop. The roar of the SUV's engine echoed behind her, growing louder.
She ducked behind a tree, pressing a trembling hand to her belly.
"Please," she whispered, voice breaking. "Not now stay strong for me."
The forest around her pulsed with life rain, thunder, the hiss of tires against wet ground and beneath it all, the faint crackle of her broken transmitter. She pulled it out again, hoping for a miracle.
"Come on, Sebastian come on"
Static answered her. Then, faintly a voice.
"Izzy"
Her heart leapt. "Sebastian?!"
But the signal died before she could hear more.
