Sebastian's pulse roared in his ears. His body went rigid, the blood draining from his face. Evelyn's voice, calm and venom-sweet, filled the sterile white room like smoke.
"You're lying." His tone was hoarse, but steady.
"Am I?" she replied, stepping closer, the echo of her heels slicing through the silence. "You of all people should recognize the signs. The compatibility markers. You and Isabella were never coincidence, Sebastian. You were the plan."
His breath caught.
"No," he whispered, almost to himself. "She was never part of this. She"
"She became part of it the moment she touched you," Evelyn cut in. "You triggered the dormant sequence in your genome. The child is proof. The last viable link in the chain we began a decade ago."
He stared at her, disbelieving. "You're insane."
Her eyes glittered. "You're just in denial."
