Chapter 27 - Unfinished Battles

Scene — In the Office

Two employees stood near the glass corridor, whispering among themselves.

Employee 1: What do you think? Who will be our new CEO?

Employee 2: Of course… it will be Zayan Shah.

A girl sighed dreamily.

Girl 1: He's so handsome… but also so cold-hearted.

Girl 2: Obviously. After all, he's the youngest and most successful businessman — only 22.

A boy shook his head nervously.

Boy 1: But working under him isn't easy. He's extremely strict.

Girl 2 (suddenly whispering): Hey… look. Miss Zoya is coming.

Zoya walked toward them with her usual confident steps, files clutched neatly in her hands.

Zoya: Have you all prepared the files?

Boy 1: Yes, ma'am. Everything is ready.

Zoya gave a sharp nod.

Zoya: Good. The meeting starts in a few minutes. I want everything perfect.

Scene — Boardroom Decision

The massive boardroom was filled with tension.

Senior directors sat around the long glass table, whispering among themselves. Files were open. Screens were on. But no one looked relaxed.

Because today… the future CEO of Shah Group would be decided.

The door opened.

Faisal Shah entered with slow, authoritative steps and took the head seat. The room instantly fell silent.

Director 1: Mr. Faisal, the company needs a permanent CEO now. The market is already reacting.

Director 2: Investors are demanding stability.

Faisal's expression remained unreadable.

Before he could respond—

The elevator outside dinged.

Footsteps echoed in the corridor.

Steady… calm… dangerous.

The boardroom door opened again.

Zayan Shah walked in.

Black suit. Cold eyes. Zero emotion.

The entire room unconsciously straightened.

Some nervous.

Some impressed.

Some… threatened.

Zayan stopped at the center of the room.

Zayan (calm, controlled): I heard Shah Group is looking for a CEO.

A heavy silence dropped.

Director 3 cleared his throat.

Director 3: Mr. Zayan, with all respect… this position requires experience.

Zayan's lips curved slightly — not a smile, but something sharper.

He placed a file on the table.

Zayan: Check page 27.

The directors quickly flipped the file.

Their expressions changed.

Shock.

Disbelief.

Respect.

Director 2 (whispering): He… he closed the Singapore deal alone?

Director 1: And the Dubai expansion too…

Faisal's eyes narrowed slightly — proud but cautious.

Zayan finally spoke again, voice low but powerful:

Zayan: Shah Group doesn't need an experienced CEO.

(beat)

Zayan: It needs a fearless one.

Silence.

Then slowly…

One by one…

Hands began to rise.

Director 1: I vote for Zayan Shah.

Director 2: I support the motion.

Director 3 (after hesitation): …Approved.

Within seconds, the decision was clear.

Faisal looked at his son.

Long pause.

Then—

Faisal: Congratulations… Mr. CEO.

The room filled with controlled applause.

But Zayan didn't smile.

His cold eyes looked out the glass wall…

As if his victory meant nothing.

As if…

He was still fighting a battle no one could see.

Scene — After the Meeting

The meeting was finally over.

One by one, the directors stood up, surrounding Zayan.

Director 1: Congratulations, Mr. CEO.

Director 2: Shah Group is in safe hands now.

Director 3: We're looking forward to working with you.

Zayan nodded politely, shaking hands with each of them — calm, composed, unreadable.

After a few moments, he turned and began walking toward the exit.

But—

Zoya: Congratulations… Mr. CEO.

Zayan stopped.

Slowly, he turned to face her.

For a brief second… the coldness in his eyes softened.

Just a little.

Zayan (slight smile): Come on… at least I'm not the boss for you.

Zoya folded her arms, studying him carefully.

Zoya: Oh really?

(soft pause)

Zoya: By the way… I'm really happy for you.

I hope you shine more and more… and that you get all the happiness in your life.

Zayan's expression froze.

The word hit somewhere deep.

Zayan (quietly): Happiness…?

Before Zoya could react—

He stepped closer.

Leaned slightly toward her ear.

His voice dropped to a cold whisper.

Zayan: It doesn't suit me.

Zoya's eyes widened slightly.

Zayan straightened… his face returning to that familiar CEO mask.

Then without another word—

He walked away.

Leaving behind…

Confusion.

Concern.

And a silence that didn't feel normal.

Scene — Office Floor

Zayan stepped onto the office floor.

Employees quickly gathered in a neat line.

Whispers spread quietly.

Boy 1 (whispering): Why did the boss call us here?

Girl 2: Maybe he wants to address the team.

Girl 3 (nervous): He's coming…

Suddenly—

The sound of firm footsteps echoed across the floor.

Zayan walked in.

Cold. Composed. Dominating the space without even trying.

Instantly, everyone straightened up.

The air turned heavy.

Zayan's sharp eyes scanned the employees one by one…

Then he stopped in front of a young employee.

Silence.

He reached forward slightly and adjusted the boy's crooked tie himself.

The employee froze.

Zayan (calm but cutting): Adjust your tie.

(brief pause)

Zayan: Because your appearance reflects your personality… or your poor discipline.

The boy swallowed nervously.

Employee: S-Sorry, sir.

Zayan stepped back, his face unreadable.

Zayan: In this company… perfection isn't optional.

He turned away.

Zayan: It's expected.

Dead silence filled the office.

Everyone understood.

The new CEO… was not someone to take lightly.

Zayan: I hope you all understand.

(brief pause)

Zayan: You may leave now.

Without waiting for a response, he turned and walked away.

The employees slowly exhaled.

The pressure in the room finally lifted.

Scene — Office Cafeteria

The cafeteria buzzed with low whispers.

Everyone was clearly shaken.

Boy 1: What the hell… he's so strict.

Girl 1: I told you. It's not easy to work with him.

Boy 1: Honestly… hats off to Zoya ma'am.

Zoya, who had just entered, raised an eyebrow.

Zoya: What do you mean?

Boy 1: Ma'am, you've been working with him for at least a year.

How do you even manage?

Zoya smiled faintly.

But there was something thoughtful in her eyes.

Zoya (softly): He's not like that… not completely.

(slight pause)

Zoya: Sometimes… struggles change people.

For a moment, the table went quiet.

Zoya straightened.

Her professional tone returned.

Zoya: Anyway, finish your lunch and get back to work soon.

Without another word—

She turned and walked away.

Leaving the employees… even more curious about their cold CEO.

Scene — Shah House

Zayan stepped into the house, loosening his cufflinks. The evening air in the lawn was calm — too calm.

His eyes landed on Faisal, who was sitting quietly with a cup of tea.

Zayan: Good evening.

Faisal looked up, a proud smile slowly forming.

Faisal: Good evening… my new CEO.

Zayan's jaw tightened slightly.

Zayan: Dad…

Faisal stood, placing the cup aside.

Faisal: I am so proud of you. You have no idea how happy I am today.

For a brief second, something unreadable flickered in Zayan's eyes.

Faisal paused… then sighed.

Faisal: I just wish your brother would also do something like this.

Silence fell between them.

Zayan's gaze sharpened.

Zayan: What is he doing these days?

Faisal's expression darkened with frustration.

Faisal: I don't know. He doesn't even pick my calls… and when he does, he barely talks.

Zayan looked away slowly, his face unreadable — but his fingers curled tightly into a fist.

Something was clearly not okay.

Zayan's expression turned cold.

Zayan: Don't think too much about him.

He's Wali Shah… the world's biggest selfish person.

He's probably busy doing something for himself.

Faisal looked at his son carefully.

There was anger in his voice… but also something else.

Pain.

Faisal hesitated before speaking.

Faisal: Zayan… he's your brother.

Just forgive him.

For a moment, silence stretched between them.

Zayan looked away.

His jaw tightened.

Zayan: I'm tired.

And hungry too.

(brief pause)

Zayan: Let me freshen up. Then we'll have dinner together.

Without waiting for a reply—

He walked inside the house.

Not looking back.

Meanwhile — Faisal

Faisal remained standing in the lawn, staring at the empty doorway.

He sighed deeply.

Faisal (to himself):

I just wish my sons could stand together again…

(soft pause)

At least after me…

they will have each other.

The night felt heavier than before.

Scene — Zayan's Room

Zayan walks into his room.

Darkness fills the space.

He doesn't bother turning on the lights.

Slowly, he walks to his bed and lies down.

For a few moments, he closes his eyes…

But sleep doesn't come.

He opens them again.

His gaze shifts to the corner of the room.

There—

A photograph.

Zara.

Zayan keeps staring at it, his eyes softening for the first time that day.

Zayan (low voice):

"Today… I achieved everything I wanted."

A pause.

Silence fills the room.

Zayan:

"Success… fame…"

His voice breaks slightly.

A tear slips from the corner of his eye.

Zayan (whisper):

"…except you."

The room feels heavier.

Lonelier.

Suddenly—

A knock on the door.

Servant (from outside):

"Sir, dinner is ready. Your father is waiting."

Zayan quickly wipes his face.

His expression turns cold again.

Zayan:

"I'm coming."

Scene — Skyline Vale City Hospital

The corridor was filled with tension.

Nurses rushed from one side to another.

Monitors beeped sharply.

A patient was being wheeled in urgently.

Nurse:

"Doctor! The patient's BP is dropping!"

Another voice followed—

"Where is Dr. Zara?!"

And then—

Silence.

Because she walked in.

Zara.

White coat. Calm eyes. Controlled steps.

No panic. No rush.

Just… authority.

Everyone moved aside automatically.

As if her presence alone was enough.

She stopped beside the patient, her sharp eyes scanning everything in seconds.

Zara (cold, precise):

"Vitals."

Nurse (quickly):

"BP falling, pulse weak—"

Zara:

"Oxygen."

The mask was placed immediately.

Zara:

"Prepare injection."

No hesitation. No second guesses.

Her hands moved with perfection.

Steady.

Confident.

Unshaken.

The chaotic room slowly began to follow her rhythm.

Because when she was there…

Mistakes weren't allowed.

Fear didn't exist.

Only control.

A few moments later—

The monitor beep stabilized.

A straight line turned into a steady rhythm.

The tension broke.

A nurse exhaled in relief.

Nurse (softly):

"She saved him…"

Zara stepped back.

No smile.

No pride.

As if it was nothing.

Just another responsibility.

She removed her gloves calmly.

Zara (flat tone):

"Shift him to ICU. Keep monitoring."

She turned to leave.

But stopped for a second.

Her eyes darkened slightly.

As if something heavy lived inside her.

Then—

She walked away.

Cold.

Untouchable.

Unreachable.

Scene — Hospital Corridor

Zara walked through the corridor, flipping through a patient file.

From a distance—

Mario:

"Zara! Zara!"

Zara turned, a small smile appearing on her face as she waved.

Zara:

"Hey."

Mario finally reached her, slightly out of breath.

Mario:

"Wow, Dr. Busy… where have you been all day?"

Zara (calmly):

"Emergency room."

Before Mario could reply—

A voice came from behind.

Zay:

"Then I think you need a coffee."

Zara turned.

For a second, her expression softened.

Zara:

"Oh… thanks, Zay."

Mario looked between them, a mischievous smile forming.

Mario:

"Wow… that sounds like a very caring partner."

Zara immediately shot her a sharp look.

Zay looked down, slightly embarrassed.

Mario (raising hands):

"Okay, okay! I'm just kidding."

Zay cleared his throat.

Zay:

"By the way, Zara… will you join us for dinner tonight?"

Mario's eyes widened dramatically.

Mario:

"Wait—what? You guys have dinner together too?"

Zara sighed, clearly annoyed.

Zara:

"Zip it. It's just a family dinner."

Mario:

"Oh…"

Zara looked at Zay for a moment.

Zara (calm):

"Maybe… I'll join."

Zay nodded slightly.

Zay:

"Alright."

Suddenly, his phone rang.

He glanced at the screen.

Zay:

"It's Dad. I'll see you both later."

Mario:

"Bye."

Zay walked away.

The moment he left—

Zara turned sharply toward Mario.

Zara (low, irritated):

"Are you dumb? What were you saying in front of him?"

Mario crossed her arms.

Mario:

"What? Can't you see how much he cares about you? He's literally perfect."

Zara's expression turned cold.

Zara:

"Go to hell."

She walked away without another word.

Mario (calling after her):

"Hey Zara, wait—listen!"

But Zara didn't stop.

Maya (calling out):

"Ava! Ava, where are you, darling? Hurry up, we're getting late."

Ava (from upstairs):

"I'm coming, Mom!"

Maya turned toward the servant.

Maya:

"Where is Zara?"

Servant:

"Ma'am, she hasn't arrived yet."

Maya sighed and picked up her phone.

Maya:

"Let me call her."

The phone rang…

Maya:

"Hello, Zara? Where are you?"

A calm voice came from behind her—

Zara:

"In front of you."

Maya froze for a second… then turned quickly.

A smile spread across her face.

She walked forward and hugged Zara tightly.

Maya (warmly):

"How are you? How was your day?"

Zara (softly):

"It was good."

Maya:

"Alright, go and get ready. We're already late."

From a distance—

Ava stood silently, watching them.

Her eyes didn't look happy.

Maya (noticing):

"Ava? What are you doing there? Come here."

Ava stepped forward slowly.

Ava (cold tone):

"Nothing… just watching how much you love someone else's daughter more than your own."

Silence.

The air turned heavy.

Before anyone could react—

A deep voice came from behind.

Victor Laurent:

"Ava."

Everyone turned.

Victor stood there, his presence immediately commanding the room.

Victor (firm, controlled):

"What kind of behavior is that?"

Ava looked down.

Victor:

"Apologize to your sister."

Zara spoke gently—

Zara:

"It's okay, uncle. There's no need—"

Victor cut her off.

Victor (strict):

"Ava."

A pause.

Ava clenched her fists slightly.

Ava (reluctantly):

"…Sorry."

Maya quickly stepped in to ease the tension.

Maya:

"Alright, let's go. We're already getting late."

Victor looked at Ava one last time.

Victor (low, warning tone):

"We are a family. Don't forget that again."

Silence followed.

But not everything was fixed.

Some feelings…

Were still there.

Scene — Shah House, Evening

Grandpa:

"Junaid, is everything ready? I don't want a single mistake tonight. You know how important the Laurent family is for us."

Junaid:

"Don't worry, Dad. I understand exactly how important they are—for both family and business."

Zay (smiling, polite):

"Good evening, Grandpa. Good evening, Dad."

Grandpa:

"Good evening, Mr. Doctor. How was your day?"

Zay (with a small smile):

"It was good."

Junaid:

"Today is the family dinner, you remember that, right?"

Zay (softly, to himself):

"How could I forget…"

Junaid (curious):

"By the way, Dad, will he be joining us tonight?"

Grandpa (thoughtful):

"Maybe."

Just then, a servant appeared at the doorway.

Servant:

"Sir… they have arrived."

Grandpa:

"Welcome to our house."

Junaid:

"Welcome, sir. It's a pleasure to meet you."

Victor Laurent (smiling, dismissive of formalities):

"Oh, please, Mr. Junaid… don't call me sir."

Zay (gently, to Zara):

"Welcome home. I had a feeling you'd come."

Zara (softly, polite):

"Thank you."

Ava (curious, teasing):

"Zay… he's your old classmate, right?"

Zara (nodding, calm):

"Yes."

Rose (warmly, gesturing inside):

"Please, come in."

Scene — Dinner Table, Shah House

Everyone was gathering around the dinner table, the aroma of freshly cooked food filling the room.

Victor:

"Wow… you guys made so many dishes!"

Rose (smiling, proud):

"Yes, I prepared everything myself. I hope you all enjoy it."

Junaid (grinning at his wife):

"Of course! My beautiful wife always makes the best food."

Victor (curious):

"Where is he?"

Grandpa:

"Who?"

A familiar voice echoed from the doorway.

Wali Shah:

"Me."

Everyone turned toward the entrance, but Zara froze. Her eyes widened, and for a moment, she couldn't believe it. Wali Shah… standing right there, in front of her.

Zara (whispering to herself):

"Wali Shah…"

Wali Shah (smiling slightly, casual):

"Sorry I'm late. Got stuck in traffic."

Victor (teasing, enthusiastic):

"It's okay! A hero's entrance is always dramatic."

Grandpa (nodding approvingly):

"Well said."

Zara's gaze stayed locked on him, her mind racing. Something had changed in Wali… and she couldn't tell if it was good or dangerous.

Zay (concerned, noticing Zara):

"Zara… Zara, are you okay?"

Zara (softly, trying to steady herself):

"Hmm… I'm fine."

Wali Shah (smiling, holding a bouquet of flowers):

"By the way… I brought these for you."

(He turns slightly, scanning the family.)

"So… she must be your daughter, right?"

Ava (confidently):

"Yeah, I'm Ava."

Wali Shah (nodding, approvingly):

"Nice name."

(Then his gaze shifts to Maya.)

"And you must be Miss Mayawell… You're even more beautiful than your name suggests."

Maya (blushing, surprised):

"Ah… thank you."

Victor Laurent (smiling, slightly proud):

"Yes, she is my wife. And that's Zara."

Wali Shah (turning to Zara, his voice calm but commanding):

"Yes… I know her."

The room froze.

Everyone's eyes widened. Shock. Curiosity. A thousand questions hanging in the air.

Zara's heart skipped. How did he…?

Even Zay's gaze sharpened, watching Wali carefully, sensing that this was more than just a casual remark.

Wali Shah (slight smile, correcting himself):

"I mean… she assists Dr. Jack."

(He looks at Zara briefly.)

Wali:

"One of the best surgeons… if I'm not wrong."

(Then his gaze shifts to Zay.)

Wali:

"You're with Zay, right?"

Zara (calm, controlled):

"Hmm."

Zay:

"Yes. We both assist Dr. Jack."

The tension slightly eases… but not completely.

Rose (warmly, trying to lighten the mood):

"Please, try the pasta."

Wali (smiling):

"Yeah, you should. I can guarantee it—"

(He glances at Rose with a soft smile.)

Wali:

"My aunt makes the best pasta."

Rose (touched):

"Aww… thank you, Wali."

But across the table—

Zara quietly watches him.

Her eyes filled with questions.

Because she knows…

Wali is hiding something.

Zara's eyes stayed fixed on Wali.

She wasn't eating.

Wasn't talking.

Just… watching him.

Ava:

"Zara, can you pass the fish?"

No response.

Ava (a bit louder):

"Zara?"

Zara blinked.

Zara:

"Hmm?"

Before she could react—

Wali calmly picked up the dish and passed it to Ava.

Ava:

"Thank you."

Wali (casual):

"Mention not."

Zara's eyes narrowed slightly.

Something felt off.

Suddenly—

Her phone screen lit up.

A message.

From Wali.

Her fingers paused for a second… then she opened it.

Wali (text):

Don't look at me with those eyes…

otherwise you'll fall in love with me again.

Zara's breath hitched.

Slowly, she looked up at him.

Wali was already watching her.

A faint, dangerous smile on his lips.

Zara quickly typed back.

Zara (text):

Come outside. Let's talk.

At that moment—

Maya (noticing):

"Zara, is everything alright?"

Zara instantly composed herself.

Zara:

"Excuse me… Dr. Jack is calling. I need to take this."

Maya:

"Okay."

Zara stood up and walked out.

Calm outside.

Storm inside.

A moment later—

Wali (to Ava, casually):

"Can you pass the salad?"

Ava:

"Sure."

As she handed it—

The bowl slipped slightly.

The salad fell onto Wali's pants.

Victor:

"Ah—be careful."

Ava (panicking):

"I'm so sorry!"

Wali (calm):

"It's okay. I'll clean it."

He stood up.

And walked out.

Scene — Outside (Zara & Wali)

Zara stood outside, waiting.

Her arms crossed.

Her expression cold.

The night air was calm… but inside her, nothing was.

Suddenly—

A voice came from behind.

Wali:

"Girl… why do you always scare me like that?"

Zara didn't turn immediately.

Wali (smirking):

"And by the way… I thought you blocked my number."

(soft pause)

"But you still saved it."

He stepped closer.

Wali:

"I like that."

Zara turned sharply.

Her eyes met his.

Cold. Warning.

Zara:

"What do you want?"

Wali shrugged casually.

Wali:

"Nothing… just a cup of coffee."

Zara stepped forward.

Now they were standing close.

Too close.

She looked straight into his eyes.

Zara (low, firm):

"Just keep one thing in mind, Wali Shah… stay away from me."

A pause.

Her voice turned sharper.

Zara:

"Because if you try anything—"

(beat)

Zara:

"You'll be responsible for the consequences."

Silence.

Wali didn't react.

He just smiled.

Slowly.

Dangerously.

Then nodded his head.

Zara broke the eye contact and turned to leave.

Her steps were fast.

Controlled.

But before she could go—

Wali (quietly):

"Zara…"

She stopped.

Didn't turn.

Wali's voice dropped.

Calm.

Mysterious.

Wali:

"Sometimes… what we see isn't the truth."

A pause.

Wali:

"Maybe what you believe… is just a beautiful lie."

Zara's fingers tightened slightly.

But she didn't respond.

And then—

She walked away.

Leaving behind questions…

And a past that clearly wasn't over.

Victor Laurent (smiling):

"Thank you so much. I'm really happy. I hope our relationship stays strong."

Junaid (confidently):

"Of course. Don't worry… our bond is stronger than glue."

A light wave of laughter spread among everyone.

Grandpa:

"Alright then. Goodbye. See you tomorrow at the new project site."

Victor:

"Sure. Goodbye."

He turned to Wali.

Victor:

"Goodbye, Wali."

Wali (calm):

"Goodbye."

Zay glanced at Zara.

Zay (softly):

"Take care, Zara."

Zara:

"Bye."

The Laurent family left.

Silence slowly returned to the house.

Wali turned toward Grandpa and Junaid.

Wali:

"Alright then… I should leave too. Take care."

He was about to walk away—

Grandpa (firm):

"Wali. Wait."

Wali stopped.

Grandpa:

"Come with me. We need to talk."

A brief pause.

Wali's eyes flickered with curiosity… or maybe something deeper.

Wali:

"Sure."

They both walked away together.

Behind them—

Rose looked at Junaid.

Rose:

"What do you think they're talking about?"

Junaid (shrugging):

"I have no clue."

Rose rolled her eyes.

Rose:

"Clueless person."

Scene — Study Room (Grandpa & Wali)

Grandpa:

"Come inside, Wali."

Wali walked in calmly and sat across from him.

Silence.

Heavy.

Grandpa (serious):

"Your father called me yesterday. He said you're not answering his calls."

Wali leaned back slightly.

Unbothered.

Wali:

"I've been busy. That's all."

Grandpa's eyes hardened.

Grandpa:

"Don't lie to me."

A brief pause.

Wali exhaled, then spoke flatly—

Wali:

"Fine. I don't want to talk to him."

(beat)

"And I don't want to discuss it."

He looked straight at Grandpa.

Wali:

"If you have something else to say, go ahead. Otherwise… I should leave."

Grandpa studied him for a moment.

Then—

Grandpa:

"That girl… Zara."

A pause.

Grandpa:

"Is she the one?"

Wali didn't hesitate.

Wali:

"Yes."

Silence filled the room.

Grandpa's expression turned more serious.

Grandpa:

"So… Victor Laurent doesn't know anything about the accident?"

Wali's lips curved slightly.

Not a smile.

Something darker.

Wali:

"Maybe he knows…"

(soft pause)

Wali:

"…or maybe he doesn't."

Grandpa narrowed his eyes.

Confused.

Suspicious.

Grandpa:

"What do you mean?"

Wali stood up slowly.

Calm.

In control.

Wali:

"Just wait."

He turned toward the door.

Wali:

"And watch how everything unfolds… step by step."

He picked up his coat.

Wali (casual):

"Anyway… good night. Sweet dreams."

Grandpa (still watching him):

"Take care. And drive carefully."

Wali:

"Of course."

Wali walked out.

Leaving behind…

Questions.

And a truth that was slowly coming back to life.

Morning Scene — Shah House

Zayan walks down to the dining table. Everything is perfectly arranged, but the room feels strangely quiet.

He looks around the empty hall.

A servant approaches him.

Servant:

"Sir, do you want something?"

Zayan:

"No, thanks. Where is Dad?"

Servant:

"Sir hasn't woken up yet."

Zayan raises his eyebrows in surprise.

Zayan:

"Really? That's unusual… alright, I'll check."

He walks straight toward his father's room.

Zayan stops in front of the door and knocks.

Zayan:

"Dad… Dad?"

No response.

He knocks again.

Zayan:

"Dad?"

Still silence.

Zayan slowly opens the door.

The moment he looks inside, his body freezes.

His legs begin to shake.

On the floor…

His father is lying unconscious.

Zayan rushes toward him.

Zayan (shouting):

"D–Dad! Dad!"

Panic fills his voice.

Zayan:

"Usman! Jack! Someone come upstairs!"

His hands tremble as he tries to wake him.

Zayan:

"Dad… please… open your eyes."
