Chapter 63: Gacha Fusion System! Activated!!
The main thing was, not only was it humanoid, but it also looked incredibly creepy. Add in its signature move, Hypnosis...
All these factors, when combined, had cemented Hypno's current "image."
Hypno
Level: LV.26
Ability: Insomnia (Prevents the Pokémon from falling asleep.)
Potential: D+
"Gyarados, Dragon Dance!"
Kenji really couldn't stand to look at this Pokémon. He just wanted it off the field as soon as possible, so he immediately ordered Gyarados to start boosting.
"Hypno, use Hypnosis!!"
The examiner opposite him wasn't an idiot. He naturally wasn't going to just sit there and watch Gyarados set up. He immediately commanded Hypno to use its most infamous move.
But to the examiner's shock, the Hypno on the field just stood there, frozen, as if it hadn't heard the command at all.
If the examiner had been able to see Hypno's expression from the front, he would have realized its face was frozen in terror, its yellow body trembling.
In this state, it was completely suppressed by Gyarados's aura.
This was exactly why Kenji had been confident enough to have Gyarados arrogantly set up a Dragon Dance right on the spot.
After training for so long, Gyarados's proficiency with Dragon Dance had reached an extremely high level, and it could execute the move very quickly.
The opposing examiner realized something was wrong and kept shouting Hypno's name, trying to snap it out of its fear.
But Kenji wasn't about to give him the time.
"Gyarados! Waterfall!"
After completing a Dragon Dance, Gyarados's Attack and Speed had both received a terrifying boost.
Upon executing Waterfall, its massive body shot forward like a freight train, crashing straight into Hypno.
Unsurprisingly, the attack knocked Hypno out cold, right then and there.
The examiner's remaining Pokémon were also only around level 25.
If this exam had been at any other school, it might have given the students a serious headache.
But this was Metropolis Academy, a place that had gathered half of the entire National Region's top trainers of this generation.
Three battles. The whole thing was over in less than three minutes.
The examiner opposite him seemed to have gotten used to being steamrolled, but this was the first time he'd seen his Pokémon completely ignore his commands.
All three of his Pokémon... not a single one had listened to him.
Losing this way... it was just an awful feeling.
Because the written portion was graded electronically, the score was available immediately upon submission.
With the practical battle exam also passed, all Kenji needed to do was complete some paperwork with the staff, and he would officially become a registered Professional Trainer, recognized by the National League.
Kenji was just about to leave the battle area when he ran straight into Yuki, who was walking toward the same room.
Her white hair was just too easy to recognize.
However, they only made eye contact for a second before passing each other without a word.
Kenji finished the supplementary procedures with the staff. A few moments later, a staff member handed him a small certificate.
"Congratulations on becoming a Professional Trainer. Your information has been logged in the League's Professional Trainer database. You are now permitted to freely capture and trade Pokémon, as well as participate in various official competitions."
The moment Kenji accepted the certificate, the long-awaited system notification chimed in his ear.
"Ding! Congratulations to the Host for becoming a Professional Trainer!"
"Battle Reward function has been unlocked!"
"Competition Reward system has been unlocked!"
"Gold Shop has been unlocked!"
"Ding! System Reward acquired: Prismatic Hex Core draw x1!!!"
A series of system prompts rang out. It took Kenji a full thirty seconds to process them. He suppressed his euphoria, thanked the staff member, and hurried away.
He got into a campus shuttle. On the way back, Kenji pulled up the system interface and began to examine the new features.
First was the Battle Reward function.
As the name implied, as long as his Pokémon completed a battle, the system would provide a Gold reward. The amount of Gold was determined by the levels of the Pokémon on both sides.
A Professional-level Pokémon battle was worth 10 Gold. An Elite-level battle was worth 100 Gold, and so on...
Of course, if Kenji sent out a Pokémon that was in a higher "league" than the opponent (e.g., Professional vs. Elite), he would forfeit the reward.
For example, if the opponent sent out a Professional-level Pokémon and Kenji countered with his Elite-level Beedrill, he would get nothing.
As for the Competition Reward, this was for participating in tournaments. As long as he won a championship, he would get a reward.
To Kenji's surprise, Gym battles also counted as "competitions."
Defeating a City-level Gym would grant one Silver Hex Core draw.
Defeating a Provincial-level Gym would grant one Random Hex Core draw.
The first two functions were very straightforward.
But it was the third function, the Gold Shop, that interested Kenji the most.
The shop didn't sell many items, mostly just various equipment components.
So far, the only piece of equipment he had was the Last Whisper on his Beedrill.
He couldn't even imagine... if, in the future, he could get a full three-item build on Beedrill... an Infinity Edge, a Bloodthirster... what kind of absurd damage would it be able to output?
Kenji continued to scroll down. Suddenly, his eyes lit up.
